brother thank you for all the work..im part samoa but grew up cook islands then nz.. fafetai ..ata wai walo..e tama mania koe te video note dance no matou tupuna..e koleleka note lopa!!
Fa'afetai tele lava ia te 'oe! I have been in Samoa 11 times, first time in 1976... I know people there and love them. I like very much pese ma le siva Samoa. Unfortunately, I did not get to see (and record) the best Samoan performance at the Festpac last May in Guam... I will try, G-d willing, to go to Hawai'i in 2020 to do a better job. Before that, I will also publish a short video of the Amerika Samoa performances in 1996. Manuia!
Malo lava le soifua Vladimir! Awesome uploads! Keep it up! Was wondering if the famous Teachers Cultural Group performed in this year as well? I'm sure they did, but would you have any footage of them?
Fa'afetai tele ia te 'Oe! I loved the two groups (there might have been more...) back in 96. I also have a similar video on Tutuila, coming on tomorrow. Please matamata, and tell me what you think. As for this year's festival, I only got to watch and record a smaller performance at one of the secondary venues, the Dededo VIllage. It was nice, but incomplete. Most I regretted their lack of own drums and (in part) singing. They did not bring forth a taupou, either... But you can see for yourself in my video, which I published in early September. Tofa soifua! BTW: which ones were the Teachers Training College? The blue, with the 'ava ceremony?
The group that you are referring to (the one you recorded in Dededo village) are indeed the Teachers Cultural Group. I was a bit shocked to see that they were using backing tracks to dance to (which in all fairness is still them singing - they just recorded their voices to use), but would've preferred to have just had them sing live like they've done over all the years. The Teachers Cultural Group (sometimes referred to as TTC by many Samoans) have performed at every single Festival and they're are well known for maintaining much of the traditional dance of Samoa (you can check my page to see footage of them at the 76 Festival in Rotorua NZ - but there are also other videos of them on UA-cam performing in Tahiti, New Caledonia...etc), so I too was shocked when I saw some of their performances here on UA-cam from the recent Festival in Guam using audio tracks to perform. The two groups in this video are both Youth Groups from Samoa, although I am not too sure as to which village or churches they belong to.
D Misa : fa'afetai! You seem to be a connoisseur. I even have an LP with their impressive choir. The first youth group was from Sinamoga. I did not write that in the video bcs I didn't know where the other one was from. Tōfā Soifua!
Talofa! I think they are a cultural group from one of the larger villages. I loved the 'ava ceremony on stage... Please keep in mind this was 20 years ago...
