The Kardatoran are ok for me. Then again I'm easily please-able. You can just give me a random bionicle set and I'll most likely like it. I will agree that I hated the piece massacre of 2008. I have like 40 broken leg pieces in my lego box. Although 2008 is still my favorite year since I had a lot of great memories with it (Ya, nostalgic bias but it's not like I hate every other year).
the chainsawing of solek was heartbrekaing for me if only because i find Lego too precious a toy to just destro willingly as well as how rare a 7 year old splurge toy may be thus willfully destroyign one seems....wrong;(

The Av-Matoran were the warning of Bionicle's death. The shift to large, clunky, non-articulated pieces for smaller kids killed Bionicle- at this point, they might as well just put out pre-built action figures.
Nah By matoran standards it's an improvement and the stars sets were the result of a petition to give bionicle an ending so it had a shoestring budget anyway
No idea to be honest, if they even knew it existed at the time. Perhaps it was a process in the factories and everything like that, so Lego might have never realised the internal issue.
I think the idea what the new joint had more friction every time I use the therapy I noticed there are bit more friction yeah I think that's the main reason why they keep breaking you have to use little bit more Force to put them on
I believe they definitely noticed the problem, and where probably trying to stall until ccbs came out. You can see in the 2010 ben ten constraction sets when they had to make new socket joints molds the joints were much stronger and didn't break. If you look at the Hero Factory wave 1 villains they made use of the stronger ben ten joints and tried their best not to use the weaker 08 Bionicle joints. It seems that Bionicle just didn't last long enough to receive new joints.
"Do you like the Kardatoran? What's your favorite Kardatoran?" Um, yeah, they are my favorite small sets... And Solek was my favorite Kardatoran... And you cut him in half... 😰
These are such a disappointment compared to the Mahritorans' solid builds or the Voyatorans' wonky, yet creative ones. We did at least get new mask molds in a Matoran wave for once, so that's pretty neat if nothing else.
WOAH!!! I did not expect you to ACTUALLY chainsaw him. What a waste. I mean, if you faked it, it would be funny, but that's just sad. It's not a proportionate retaliation for the trouble Solekians have caused you.
I usually use the Kardatoran/Agori torso and head pieces for Matoran MOCs, but I use CCBS bone and armor pieces for the limbs. This keeps them at the same short height, but gives them alot more articulation. Personally, Gavla is my favorite Shadow Matoran, with (obviously) Solek being my favorite Av-Matoran. Also, I love how I was the first comment to be featured in the skit! I knew you loved me!
+GREEN RAGNEROCK If you're asking why he's so hated it's mainly because of the fact that on top of having a really weak build, his " vibrant color" is white. Not metru blue or orange, just white, along with gray and silver.
Their ‘cons’ are the same exact cons that all matoran face. A chunk of plastic with limited articulation. Its not like that’s anything new for a matoran, why everyone was surprised by this was beyond me
I find it funny how people complain about the Av Matoran because they have no knee or elbow articulation, yet the very first Matoran from 2001 had no articulation other the moving their arms and feet from side to side
Yep but those were made to be as simplistic as possible since they were just a promotional toy, not an actual set They also were released 7 years before
The shadow Matoran did have different masks before those, thanks to me! I brought it up to Greg that it didn't make sense that they wore immoral masks, so he canonized the fact that the Makuta switched them. My little contribution to G1.
+Commander Spencer They're not coming anywhere near the boards or the TTV channels on Vessel and here, so as long as you stay in that territory, you should be fine.
I love how all the Makutatoran have blended coloured masks to show how they're all corrupted n' such. Kirop's mask worked especially well, giving the impression of metallic fangs. Love 'em
Is the Solek mask from the skit still useable? T'would look pretty awesome on a MOC. I like these sets more than the Metruan. Heresy, I know, but they aren't quite as clone-y as the Metruan, and I've seen more applications for these pieces than the Metruan ones. They have longer limbs and more than one angle of awkward-pre-bent-ness. THey also have better weapons, and synch up with the Toa/Makuta better. I don't really see the grey as a downside, considering that all of the Metru Nui sets except Dume & Nivawk and Krekka used it as a secondary colour. Also, Gavla's torso was the wrong way around here. Just sayian. Some random details about the Kardatoran: Kirop was the leader of the Av-Matoran before he was corrupted, but it's actually Gavla, the first Av-Matoran that was corrupted, that leads the Matoran enslaved by the Makuta. The official prefix for Shadow elementals is "Kra". The Av-Matoran's masks were initially intended to be entirely new Kanohi, and them being labeled the Noble versions of Lewa, Pohatu, and Kopaka's masks was something that Greg didn't agree with. This is why the "Noble Kakama" and "Noble Akaku" are more substantial than their Great counterparts. The Kra-Matoran, however, were intended to have Noble masks, but that makes sense, since they were essentially slaves of the Makuta that used them. Gavla, Kirop, and Radiak were given Noble versions of the Kaukau, Pakari, and Hau respectively upon their arrival in Metru Nui. Tanma looks a lot better holding his swords in reverse, the way he was depicted on the back of the leaflet and on Bionicle.com. For some reason, Tanma's Bionicle.com model had his arms and legs switched. Attempting to replicate this change and then turning him back cost me two of his limbs, and led to him being the only pre-G2 set that I bought a dupe of.
My memory attached to these sets were when I went to downtown orlando now called disney springs to their lego store and my mom bought me the red and blue guy and put them together on the drive back home.
Holy crap, ElJay actually destroyed a set this time around. RIP in peace Solek... And the funny thing is that I always wanted Solek. Now I also want Kirop too... Dang it, I want to get all the Kardatoran now. I know they have a lot of cons, but I think they look freaking cool. And before I forget: Great review as always ElJay.
I actually didn't know that the Av-Matoran were wearing Noble versions of the Toa Nuva's mask. That's quite cool. Shame we never saw the Noble versions of the other three.
Eljay, I’m making a moc of radiak before he got infected/after he got cured. I got the idea after finding out that they wore the noble versions of the toa nuva masks. I found a noble hau on shapeways and I’m buying the parts for him.
Alright, since it's one week before the 2008 overview and I got Solek a little bit ago, I am going to say something about him...despite how controversial he is here on TTV. Honestly, he's probably the best Av-matoran out of all the Kardatoran. Think about it: Tanma has awkward, pre-bent 90 degree arms. And Photok has a questionable color scheme and has legs that are way too small for what his appearance suggests. Solek on the other hand has excellent proportions, limbs bent at just the right angle, a color scheme that matches his Ice motif and partially matches his element, and he also (for the most part) shares his color scheme with the original Kopaka (White and gray). Plus I love how his blades suggest how he could be a dexterity warrior of sorts. And yes, I am aware of his cons. Solek is not Bionicle's worst. I strongly feel that title belongs to a certain Tahu set with a similar build, but that is for another day and another video.
Probably because the Matoran wouldn't want to dive into the swampland on account of how dangerous it could be (me guessing). On that note, though, I suspect that the pure Av-Matoran forms of the other three *would have* been paired up with Tahu, Gali and Onua.
I am 100% serious when I say this: Kopaka and Solek were my first sets when I was 8 so I have a strong love for both them as my favorite sets to this day. I'm sorry but I'm serious :'(
Cons pre-bent limbs like all matoran sets since the tohunga yet now it's a con as a matter of fact they are the best matoran sets from g1 they don't look like a 5 year olds moc and they actually move way more than the other matoran sets they are the best matoran sets if you don't count protectors
Solek is the best of the av-matoran builds of 2007. Now, you may be thinking "How can you like Solek!?" Well I'll tell you. He has a straighter varient of the limbs, giving him a tad more posability and makes him more photogenic. Tanma's arms don't allow him as much movement and Photok is insanely lanky. Even of the shadow matoran, he holds up quite nicely and is easily better than most of them (besides Kirop). Radiak and Gavla's limbs are eternally flexed and even Kirop is way too lanky and uses the torso mold that doesn't allow for as much head movement. Now Tanma is the most proportionate, but his eternally flexed arms and lime green issues make his cons outweigh the pros. But Solek? If you cast aside his bland color scheme, his limbs are flexed just enough to allow him better posability and give him the same proportions as the inika build, and his torso is one of the better ones of the av matoran. Is he a good set? Heck no. Is he better than the rest of the Av-Matoran? Yeah. In my opinion he is.
Welcome to 2008. The world is a gray and silver hellscape. The story is near incomprehensible. Makuta is named Teridax. It's a sad year in retrospect, but also an incredibly important one, for this is the beginning of the end for Bionicle.

The hardest part about this is that Solek was my first Kardatoran...
This can’t be the real Eljay! He’s wearing a corrupted Miru!
Fun Fact: The only two Bionicle sets I own are a Brickmaster polybag set of that little bug thing from The Legend Reborn and Solek.
Welcome to 2008. The world is a gray and silver hellscape. The story is near incomprehensible. Makuta is named Teridax. It's a sad year in retrospect, but also an incredibly important one, for this is the beginning of the end for Bionicle.
That intro was amazing. I can totally see Eljay being a slasher movie killer
*Note to self: Never leave selfmoc unsupervised near Eljay.* lol
but seriously, that intro, though!
So did it take this long to reach 2008 sets, because Eljay was saving up money for a chainsaw?
Aw I always liked these little guys...
If we start the cult of Hating Tanma, will it be as hated as the Solek cult?????
ok. Killing Solek with a chainsaw was just WAY too far and WAY too ott xP
Solek Lives Matter
Wait, was that tanma yours in Lewa vs Lewa vs lewa vs Lewa vs Lewa vs Lewa?
