Sometimes I get down on Buck, thinking that they rely mainly on customer loyalty to carry on, and then you speak about the 110 and remind me that they literally revolutionized the knife world with that knife. Glad you liked it. I just really enjoy talking about and using Buck 110's. For whatever reason...it just is something in my DNA. The beard is almost back to normal. I used to have to shave twice a day when I was in the "professional" world. I swear it is like the scene in "The Santa Claus" when he looks in the mirror and his beard grows back.
I can’t stop buying 110s since I found out they’re made with ebony wood again. For $64 it’s really a steal for the knife you get. I think it’s the best value I’ve ever seen on a USA made knife.
I carried a couple different versions of those. One was all Kraton handled and the other was just like the Puma lockbacks. Way too sloppy in the lock-up, but still a nice knife.
Your Buck 110 was manufactured in San Diego, CA. Buck didn’t move to Post Falls, Idaho until 2005. I don’t know if that would make a difference on why the scales on your 110 move. As others have mentioned, Buck may know.
My newer Buck was made in Idaho, and that’s the one that the scales moved on. The old one from 1981 was of course San Diego. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I have a buck 119. I love it,so I thought, "Yes, why not get a buck 112 ,got it from Amazon, and when the knife is closed, the tip sticks up a very tiny bit ,you can cut your finger, very disappointed, but will always keep this knife to show people how buck quality control is 😢
Bummer. You could fix that though. Just file away some of the "kick" material. That would be the flat spot between between the pivot and blade, right near the logo. That is what hits the lock bar in the inside and dictates how high the blade rides inside the handle.

What is a natural product? Come on! What makes you speak this blasphemy. Holy crap! Having the wood shrink back to its appropriate size on its own means that you don’t look like an idiot after you’ve ground it to be even and then it shrinks. Can’t add wood back. But I guess my 40+ years of knife making would’ve clued me into that. Amateurs offer advice like that all the time.
Idaho Falls is dry , its pretty high elevation up there and beautiful. They probably didn't stabilize the wood long enough, if at all. I think Buck chose the right place to take their buisness. It's much better than the communist territory they came from.
Thank you for that info. I always wondered if they kept the wood in a temp/humidity controlled area. Assembled them as briskly as possible and hoped for the best when they shipped them to faraway places. My guitar fretboards are all ebony and I've never had a problem. I'm guessing Ebony is really stable, like Cocobolo. Maybe I just got a really porous piece that wanted to act like a sponge. The WD40 treatment wound up taking care of it.
@@knifetimestory I like using Rhododendron wood for many of my handle builds. You don't have to do anything to that wood other than let it dry a season. When ya sand it the stuff gains its own polish and looks like ita been treated. It's insanely hard wood and great for handle material or maybe beating sticks 😁 I learned a lot through trial and error with natural woods over the years. In my early days I made a beautiful puukko knife with a Birchwood handle it was awesome....Two days later a worm came crawling out LOL 😆
At 49, I'm always pleased when the wood swells unexpectedly.
