One of Brazil’s most promising groms in the early 00s, Gabriel Medina began his meteoric rise to the top as barely a teenager. In the final of the 2009 Quiksilver Pro King of the Groms against Caio Ibelli, Gabe dropped two tens and a perfect heat total to win the event and make a very big statement to the generation of supergroms assembled at the event, like Jack Robinson, Kanoa Igarashi, and others.
While Gabe was always going to be a technical genius in small waves, his fearlessness and precision at some of the tour’s heaviest waves like Teahupoo or Pipeline is the result of relentless work to get better, stronger, and more comfortable in waves of consequence.
Gabe won the Tahiti Pro in 2014 for the first time against the winningest surfer ever at Teahupo’o, Kelly Slater. The then twenty-one-year-old established himself with the performance as one of his generation’s most gifted all conditions surfers, and smoothly paved the way to his first World Title that year.
The three-time WSL World Champion has been a perennially consistent standout at Teahupoo ever since, winning the event again in 2018, and making four runner-up finishes in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2023.
Medina was born to surf. It's his passion, his life. Dude has an unique style, it seens he's dancing with the waves.He made the sea, his home.

@@livemoksha exactly my thoughts. And everyone judges stupidly, Medina was out of this world. I'm mexican and even tho Alan Clelan unfairly got out of the competition, he literally doubled the others who made it to the final scores, which means even tho he lost to the french, he was one of the greatest and you see his technique is just as good as the french and my people were just judging him for losing is like wth is wrong with people? Not everyone can win, theres just 3 places, but that doesn't mean others are bad, they just lost, simple as that, how can someone who doesn't even surf judges this amazing athletes riding the waves?
I follow him since 2014, he never disappoints his fans!

I saw JFF and Jack having a really hard time finding waves at the Olympics. And for Medina, he was smiling from side to side. He wasn't born in Pipe or Australia, the guy has a natural talent for seeing the sea, which no one else has. There is no one at his level in this type of sea
Hope WSL will start running events like Olympics! No extra drama, fluff or annoyance just 100% surfing with good commentary. Like the pauses during commentary to just watch the surfing in peace.

Now, I question the natiobality of the judges? Just as in Correa’s (Perú) in match vs. the French surfer; the judges were French! AND just the same when Correa vs. the Brazilian surfer, the Judges were Brazilian!!! Frigging UNBELIEVABLE conflict of interest?
