- In this episode of "Ask SimpleShot", we dive into a pressing question from Lamont in chilly St. Paul, Minnesota: "How does cold weather affect band performance?" Discover the unique challenges latex bands face in colder climates, from their inherent preference for warmth to the impact of freezing temperatures on their elasticity.
With insights on specialized latex formulations and tips for optimal performance, this video offers essential guidance for those using bands in cooler environments. Dive in to understand and navigate the cold's impact on band efficiency.
Wow. That's interesting. Here in African sahara it gets really hot in summer (berween 45 and 55 degrees), and bands become very stretchy but they lose a loooot of their force' probably worse than during cold winter.
There can be a point that is too hot as well. I have experienced this in the summer if the slingshot is left in the car.
In Ottawa, Canada here.
I find faster shots, with GZK cold weather tubes works well. And a big help is keeping your slingshot in your pocket with a chemical pocket warmer makes a huge difference!
Great tip!
I have a question
Do colour of the band effect shooting on cold tempreture?
Not if it has additives for the cold. Different brands have different colors.
A question I was curious about. When making bands, do you put the tabs to the outside of the pouch? If so why?
Yes, the tabs should be to the outside. If to the inside, they can hit the ammo (depending on the fork gap) and thus throw the shot off target.
