Thanks Peter, these videos are amazing, very useful and entertaining. Paradoxially, viewers can learn a lot about the quality of the originals by looking at the copies. Please keep them coming!!
Would still love you to come to Flint Michigan theater. Give it some thought and thanks again for your guidance on these matters. You enlighten me every time I see your show.
I avoided Asian Art for many years because of all the fakes. It has been as hard or harder than I expected to learn all this. I have made much progress in any case.
Great expose. The painting is so goog, is it hand painted or machine made painting with tiny dots you can only see under magnification ? Not that you would be able to by zooming in on the photos. These fakes are getting good.
I recently bought a pair of vases purporting to be from the early 1900s and upon receiving them I was immediately suspicious of their authenticity. Not because I am in any way an expert but I have a fairly substantive collection of Chinese art and artifacts and something about it just didn't sit right. They looked too new to me and now after watching this vid there are other things about them I find possibly wrong... the base is a trifle too clean, there is a fairly substantial amount of calligraphy on the back and there is an almost too perfect mark on the base. Generally I've had. very good luck with the 1stdibs site but this may be the rare case of one of their dealers not being entirely honest in their description. Of course I could be wrong and it might be perfectly as it describes itself but my doubt is fairly strong. I'll be more careful in the future.
Chinese has completely lost their traditional painting skills, that's why the reproduction looks like a zombie ! If u compare todays brushwork on any previous period u definitely noticed it!
I keep watching and I keep learning. Hardest thing that I have ever tackled. Your videos are invaluable.

Yeah, honestly it would be very interesting to have a Museum with originals and fakes next to each other.
Thank you, Peter!
Thanks for the tips, the comparisons are helpful but I doubt I'll ever come across one out here in the boondocks.😊
Really appreciate these videos, Peter - Such a great education! Thank you!
Very helpful
Great stuff. I learn so much from your videos.
Great work as always Peter. I really appreciate all your knowledge.

1stdibs stuffs are generally genuine - but way way too expensive! You can always do a google image search for price comparison.
It’s just going to get harder ad harder
Oh please give me comment a thumbs-up, pretty please....
