100% with you on this - I feel like my daughter (7yrs) has FAR too much screen time atm but I’m also full time working from home so it’s a easy distraction for her - she seems to have lost all ability to play independently which is so difficult and I’m so conscious that she’s bored, as an only child, I’m the only person to play with her (hubby is out 6-6 every day working) so it’s me or our kitten (who sleeps a LOT 😂🐈‍⬛) to entertain her 😔 She misses school, friends & family so much.
Then when I get her off the iPad to do some school work, I find that homeschooling is largely on a screen too which doesn’t help.
Plus she’s having ‘play dates’ via FaceTime which is lovely, but it’s yet more screen time.
I’m praying that come 8th March, she’ll be back at school and screen time will be limited to weekends xxx

I understand completely what you mean about the screen time guilt. Every night I say I’m going to do better but then I’m working from home and have stuff to do and online meetings and I find myself saying just go on your tablet. I just hope soon it won’t be like that anymore. Just do what I takes to get through this!

I have 5 grown up children youngest is 18 eldest 28 I was never strict with screen time i.e. Xbox play station phones etc . I found if I allowed them to play them when ever they wanted they did actually spends some days actually doing other stuff. It certainly helped during the school holidays because it was impossible to do something with them every day . They've all turned out great all have good careers ( apart from the youngest because he finished 6th form last March and hasn't been able to get a job ) Stay safe X

Maybe the games are a bit different now and more addictive because I’ve given in and let my 13 year old and 15 year old boys do as much as they want during lockdown but they are just doing it day and night, only taking breaks for meals. Wont do anything else. Completely obsessed. Schools back tomorrow. Need to make some new rules in this house. Boredom creates creativity.

I love your vlogs and you are so relatable. It’s so hard trying to control the screens with my two children lately and I just don’t have the energy or motivation to fight it at the moment on top of homeschooling. Your craft bundle made me smile. I go through stages of exactly the same. I keep it in a cupboard for a while, sometimes I display a couple and then as awful as it feels to say this 😬 I do eventually end up binning most of it 🙈 xx

Please don't feel bad about screen times. The kids are going to look back on this period as that amazing time they got to miss school and do all the device time in the world. Whatever it takes to get through, as a parent you have to preserve your mental health too. If we have ruined our kids with screens then it's a problem we all share and we'll all fix it en masse together too. Personally I think once sports and groups and activities are safe again there is going to be such enthusiasm for getting out that devices might become less of a fixation.

I've decided not to fight it. My daughter is on the laptop and her phone most of the day. She plays Roblox whit her friends. Calls them on WhatsApp and play together whilst on the phone. It is her only social interaction with her friends so I let her be. I make sure we go out every day and maybe do some cooking together so she has breaks. We also started watching Glow ( i think) n like Master chef but with makeup. We both enjoy the show and is a time to laugh together.

You’re right, it’s not the time to fight it. Will have to check out that programme, I’m sure Meryn would love it too ☺️

I just don’t have screen time because my laptop broke and never had money fix it again lol 😆 so we don’t own anything else like iPad or anything like that . All I have is phone and broke laptop . I know a lot of people are struggle with screen times . My kid is 6 but I refuse to cut money and budgets to save for iPad to have . Screens are so damaging to the body brain and eyes and behaviour of kids I just glad I escaped that till when older he can get is own lol

I started taking a picture of the kids holding their craft. Then I don't have to keep the craft.
