As you shop for the perfect office chair, you are probably busy deciding between what type of leather to get or whether you should jump on the ergonomic chair bandwagon. Chances are that you haven’t given much thought to the less glamorous parts of office chairs, such as the casters. After all, how many different casters could there possibly be? The answer: plenty. It was very informative. My Nouhaus chair came with multiple types of casters, and I was so confused to even see such different types. I've decided to go with the rollerblade casters - which I almost threw away due to unfamiliarity. Thank you for this video!

    Great summarising video.
I really liked that you touched on measuring the diameter of caster stem (or is it the mount?), so we don't get it wrong when shopping. Here in Europe it ranges from 10 to 12mm, so I will have to be very careful with the measuring.

Hi, does a shorter caster stem length affect stability on a chair? I'd like to put rollerblade casters on an old chair that has 1 3/8 length stems but most of the replacements I've found are 7/8.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to try to push the caster in with a screw-in motion when I first set up the office chair.

Just ordered Rollerblade castors for my chair..
I've always hated the cheap twin wheel castors that came with most office chairs including my new chair I ordered

I had no idea that the plastic versions could brake so easily. The chair was only a few months old when one broke into pieces. So far so good, after gluing it back together with bonding glue. At least the weak spot is now stronger than it was originally.
Update: It broke again about 5 minutes after making this post. LOL. So, out with the old small sheets of metal, and a few screws and stuff. Now it is at least 10 times stronger. This is due to it now being held together with sheets of metal bent to the appropriate shapes, and these shapes being held together rock solid, with just a few screws.

Hi there, I'm looking to replace my stock herman miller aeron wheels with "rollerblade" type casters . Most importantly, will using these instead of "HM" casters damage the chair in the long term , and will they be smooth on hard floor?
    material: Polyurethane, Plastic, Steel
    Thank you!

I have a very nice office chair that I bought many years ago. When I bought it I got two sets of casters. I had a brick floor for 24 years. Now I have carpet because I suddenly had to move due to sale of the building I was in. How do I get the casters off of the chair so I can put the others in? I can't remember where I bought the chair.

I accidentally got hardfloor casters on my steelcase series 2 but i needed carpet ones. What casters should i buy for this chair to replace the hardfloor casters?

They should both work the same in carpet. If it is really thick carpet, you likely have issues with all casters -GK

you should really use a vernier caliper to measure diameter.

We just put down nice vinyl plank flooring and instead of floor mats, we were advised by the manufacturer of our nicest office chair to get roller-blade style wheels. For all the reasons you gave at the end. It seems like these wheels were an afterthought in this video when my understanding is that they are the best option out there if protecting your floors is a concern.

I'm trying to find roller blade style wheel casters, that have a 3/8" diameter post, that will fit into older steelcase office chairs bases. no one seems to have them; they all insist that their 'universal fit' wheels will fit all office chairs, which is apparently just a ruse to get people to purchase their products which WILL NOT fit.

If you got an office chair get the blade type

I have a caster with a hood. The stem was bent, so i pried it off from the caster in order to straighten it. Is there a trick to getting it back on? I tried a hammer, but it didn’t work. Any suggestions?
