The middle of of court by the kitchen is an amazing safe space to hit the ball over the net. It allows the most room for error when aiming just above the white vertical line in the middle of the net.
This was excellent!! I’m totally convicted now! Haven’t been playing long at all but I realize my unforced errors are killing me and annoying my partner!! I’ll work on consistency & stop going for those low percentage shots and spin (which I love)! Thanks look forward to more videos!! Most helpful!!!
The most important thing about a deep return is that it makes the third shot drop more difficult. It also makes it more difficult to hit an effective drive or lob than a short return would allow.
Be my pleasure. An unforced error is an error made when not under duress. Say a player hits an amazing shot and you miss it. That would not count as an unforced error. A missed smash is usually an unforced error. Hope this helps.
Hey there...when do folks play out at this park? Ive played there a hand full of times, but not one is every out there...any where to check for a schedule?
Chris I live in Tampa. Where is this park? Have been playing mostly indoors so far. Have not yet played on a legitimate outdoor court. Park name, location?
Mental toughness is the wrong way to think about it. Just think about being consistent on the big points, Get your energy up before the point begins by doing a little dance step or running n place...Then just go for basic shots with plenty of net clearance...keep the feet moving, the hands, loose and ready, and the eyes focused...and above all, HAVE FUN!
I’m not sure of the “axiom” better to hit the ball high so your opponent can smash on you then an unforced error in the net. Hitting high balls can become a “scar” for new players who may be content just getting the ball back as success. I’ve seen it many times with new players and they build a bad habit from it that’s hard to change. I say hit as close to net within 2 feet or so as possible except serves, service returns and lobs that are required to bounce before stroking. Adjust your shots into net and try to keep easy smashes by your opponent to minimum to keep them from building confidence off easy high balls close to the zone. I’d rather hit a few balls into net then allow easy smashes that take little skill from opponents. New players are more likely to realize and adjust well to hitting balls into net then consistently hitting balls a little too high.
Agree that high shots are not optimal. But they are better than the net by far. Net wins 100% of the time. High balls 75-80%? Probabilities drive the decision making from our perspective. But definitely like the thought process.

Nice video. Good pace, not boring. And your humility lends credibility.

Great advice! I like how you don't waste anytime in getting your points across! :D
Thanks
I appreciate the editing. Nice work there. Enjoyed the tips, too. Excellent stuff.

I love your logic and simplicity.
Thank you Lisa. Glad it helped.
Really useful for myself a 3.0 trying to get to 4.0

💯
The key to gaining skills is not beating yourself and you can move to 3.5 4.0. Keep track of your unforced errors, that's where you can improve!
Very good information. I need help on unforced errors.
Thank you. Great info. I need to work on!
Tony my wife and I are avid pickleball players that live in Tampa, where are these courts your playing for these lessons?
HI, would you please define unforced error for me as this is the first video I've seen that uses this term. Thanks

Hey. Thanks, man.
Pleasure - hope it helps
Great job Tony!!!
Thanks Tony, great tips

Robert Schmidt this is at Julian B Lane park in Tampa. Right now there is. Or play schedule it is all open play.
Right now it is all open play.
Would you please do a video on mental toughness during competition?!
