    Really appreciate the thorough explanation for us beginners. The slow motion was a bonus and that you showed how to execute in a real game was a gem! Thank you.

    I remember the first time I saw Lucy play and it was her block video that impressed me so much. So calm, yet so effective. Her point about paddle face (downward) on those volleys is a gem. Thanks for posting! I love your vids!

    Really good video. Concise with excellent camera angel and speed to see how to execute it as well as the wrap up explanation from her. And the tournament video was great also showing that she is in fact able to execute this in real play.

    When I am at the NVZ line I have to start using the block volley. I am 68 and do not have the reflexes of a Ben Johns. Interesting that Lucy does move the paddle a little forward. I was taught not to move the paddle at all, like hitting a bunt in baseball. Thank you, Lucy,

      Both shots have their place - static and moving. Depends on what you are trying to accomplish, skills volleying, and shot hit your way. Glad the video was helpful. Lucy does a great job in it.

    Hi Tony, just started watching your videos. Glad I found your excellent site. What I need to stop is when a ball is driven to me I tend to hit it back with a longer stroke instead of either a block or a small punch. Any suggestions on stopping that urge to hit it back hard? Sounds simple but when the action is fast I just react. Thanks.

    Awesome video. I need to work on that and not panic!!

  • @alohaleslie9407

    This is so good! I play with many partners who do the pop up shot which leaves me feeling very vulnerable. But, I too, will often pop up shots because of the "panic" mode I can put myself into. Help! Ball coming fast!! Ugh. Thanks so much and keep 'em coming! :)

    As a new starter in this sport, I had the problem when the opponent hit it hard at me, I blocked it with a hard push forward and caused out of bound or pop up. Later I started loosing up my grip, control the paddle face, push it with soft hand and let the paddle does its job, the success rate is a lot higher. It's like Yin and Yang, when it comes hard, receive it soft; when it comes soft, take it hard

    I've been watching your videos for a while now and this is a really good one and nice example of how to beat the bangers. For what it's worth, I actually liked Jack's aggressive approach on the third shot, which resulted in Lucy's block volley back to him. Yes, she effectively negated his shot, but it was essentially a gentle hit back to him, where he could have, and I think should have, gone finesse with a 5th shot drop. A 5th shot drop would have been much easier for Jack from this point on the court than back at the baseline. From there they could gotten into a nice dinking battle at the kitchen. I've seen this firmer/hard 3rd shot, 5th shot drop transition work a lot- have you done any videos on that? Anyway, bangers are gonna bang I suppose, and this is an effective way of showing how to beat that mentality- thank you. 🙂

      Good observations. I like the attack too. That’s his style of play and agree that from then on a different approach may have served better

    Question: I have been told, by several good players, that at the NVZ they adjust/rotate their grip slightly on the paddle to where the "slight downward angle" is already set. Thoughts?

    • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  Рік тому

      Some players do change grips. The issue I have with it is not with it in concept - would be awesome to have the best grip for each shot. The issue I have is with it in practice. For most players, changing grips between shots can result in additional errors.

    So do you use a tight grip or a loose grip like you advocate in other videos. Also can you elaborate on where your opponent might hit the ball based on their body pos?

    • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  2 місяці тому

      I am in favor of a loose grip. Lucy is using a medium grip in this series.

  • @RichardsWorld
    @RichardsWorld 5 років тому +1

    Most people coach about using a soft or medium-light grip. I'm going to try what she said next time I play though.

    What about when your opponents continually hit bangers at your face/head? I feel forced to move back to the middle of the court during play and don’t know how to defend or change up this type of play.

    • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  3 роки тому +4

      This is a great question Dawn. The best approach here is going to be to let the balls go - do not hit them. Don't bail them out of the bad shot they hit. Here are a couple of videos that explain it further:
