Once Tatum, daphne, and olive freshen I would love to see a video about exactly what you are looking to improve in each line and the most favored traits of each line
We have a doggie door for a large dog that has a sensor on its collar that the door senses and it doesn’t allow anything else to come in and out but the dog. It works rather well. We got it from Amazon. I know Kevin can build a craft through the gate or the fence line with the doggie door just take simple framing. That way Salem can run back-and-forth.
There's like a doggy door that can be programmed to open either for a specific microchip or an RFID tag on the dog's collar. So no unwanted animals can trespass willingly. :)
I know that they have electronic dog doors that are activated by a collar the dog wears. I'm not sure how you would install that on the fence or if it would work in this situation, but it's an idea.
You could possible make a seesaw where she runs out into the pasture and then runs back into the fenced area with out making anything where the goats and chickens can access it? If that makes sense😆
I will say that in the horse world we have a saying, “A good stallion will make a great gelding.” I’ve always found that to be true. More people regret the time taken to leave one as a stallion in hopes he will mature out the way they want rather than going ahead and gelding (in your case wethering) them and selling them to a good home. While goats don’t require as much cost to feed or time to raise as a horse with the small area you have to keep bucks in I would definitely factor that in when you decide what you will do with jasper.
I enjoyed the discussion about conformation, especially how you explained why certain traits are desirable from a functional aspect. That's interesting stuff to someone nerdy like me! I think when faced with an aggressive, hunting coyote, Salem would pick up on it and respond appropriately.
If you already have a family lined up for a "pet" buck, then with how sweet he is it may be better to let him go as a pet, there will be potential for more kids from her in the future as well
i am glad to know your son Ethan is doing better.i am a mother and i know how that feels i love your show and watch you guys all the time.i"m from Chicago but my grandparent had a small farm in Michigan.Thank you for the memory!
I love the breeding content! I want a goat and poultry homestead so it's always really interesting to see you talk about the science and reasoning on the way you're doing things especially because you explain it in a way everyone can understand.
I predict Salem will LOVE chasing a coyote and protecting your urban farm! She was so ready to go after that one. So surprised it came around during the day. I thought they were nocturnal hunters. Crazy! Also....awwwww!!!! Yayyyy for Hazel staying on your farm! Such happy news!
Coyotes again? Oh my the yote got that rooster so quick. The roo was defending his girls maybe, no match for a yote though. Tough to go through that but that’s hey why you got Salem eh. Molly our Old English Sheepdog would most likely chase it down but luckily she has never countered any predators yet. She does have protective instincts though as I’m sure Salem does too. Love the video guys. Keep us updated on the coyotes as I’m curious to see how Salem handles things. Cheers, Chad.
If the stuffed coyote isn't ripped apart, you may try repeating the lesson with actual coyote yips, etc. .. recorded from the internet, so she can recognize the sounds as an enemy, when they wander the corridors/alleys between streets. (Kevin sounded like a dog, and I wouldn't want her to be confused) Hopefully she'll learn to be on high alert if she hears them. The use of the urine was good, as that too can be recognized and associated with them. Although they're generally quiet when attacking, the pack will call out to each other as they wander and search for prey. At least that is what they do in our rural community of Edgewood, NM. Good luck with the training!
I wish we could have seen Zorro's reaction! I wonder if he would have defended the honour of the family herd. 😉 Or Napoleon saving the herd from invasion! Haha 😂
Salem is such a good girl the day she came she took all of hearts away I hope she will protect the farm and protects all the chickens and all of the goats (we love you Salem ❤️❤️❤️
I love yalls videos! ❤🐐 Thank you for taking time out of your life to make videos and to share your life with all of us! It's so crazy to remember when I first started watching yall Lydia And Ethan were SOO SMALL 🤣 🤍 haha
I don't comment much, but I must say you guys have come a long way with your knowledge of the animals and the production value of the videos, and quality consistency. Salem needs one of those dog doors that are programmed to a collar so it will only open for her. When she is fully mature she might be able to jump over the fence like Super Dog. Get her a cape, lol.
Regarding letting Salem go in and out of the pasture without letting the goats/chickens leave, I know it exists a doggy door that works via a chip. The dog/cat has a chip on their collar and when they get close to the door, it unlocks and locks back when at a certain distance! That could be a good solution :)
Does Hazel’s record of singletons bring any concerns of genetic predisposition and/or future herd value? If she’s a star milker, would that be sufficient to round out her other qualities?
Yes, I think she is definitey still has other great qualities - and it could be that she needs to put on more weight, so we may wait a bit to breed her again so we make sure she’s in top shape:)
The butts shot was hilarious! Ive bred Shetland Sheepdogs for over 15 years and can empathize with you about which one to keep and which to sell. You are doing great job with your herd!
I hope Hazel gets her milking star. I've been watching this channel and a few others to learn about goat keeping. I hope to have some goats of my own in the future. 🙂
I'm a HUGE fan of this YT channel:) I've NEVER been into goats before watching a video from this channel then I got hooked! Sometimes I even dream that I have goats in my backyard.
It’s was to cute when you all were trying to teach Salem to run the bridge….she like “fun…wait what?!?” Hahaha Also omg Luna 🤣 when you called for her, her head pops out she a character Am I the only one who thinks CARamel is ment for a solid form and CARAmel is a liquid like it slides off the 👅 when saying it?!?!?
We adopted a Belgian Malawi mix during the pandemic, she was about 10 months old and very shy. Now she is a little over two and still shy but a big difference in protecting our home.
The dog door with a sensor for the collar is the best suggestion. But in the meantime, you should not have her using the bridge as jumping from even a 3 ft height prior to 2 yrs of age can cause damage to the joints of a large breed dog.
The parts of the videos with body structure is very educational and I actually used the example of having stonger udder attachments in one of my exams. The question was on genetic diversity and selective breeding.
There are doggy doors that open and close only for your dog if they have a special tag on their collar but you will have to check on waterprrofing because of pond and irrigation. Pizza oven looks great !! Good job Kevin. And I adore all your animals. They are so cute. You are great breeders.
Hazels udder really improved! Very interesting to see the change, thanks for sharing! Cool that she has such great genetics. Can’t wait to see this years kiddings.
Kevin and his Thundercats T-shirt!!! One of my oldest friends is a retired marine and he is still loves Thundercats. I have been thinking about getting him that shirt for a couple of years.
Hey Kevin and Danelle. We come over from our friends Jeremy & Ashley's Channel at MBF. We really look forward to watching your guys Journey😊 John & Sheri
Hi, could you repeat how many babies that the girls are having, and when they are due? Thanks! Have a nice weekend. Looks like it will be nice,I'm in Mesa.
So how do you find out about recent milking stars and grand champion wins with your goats dams and sire? Do you have to keep in touch with the sellers or is there a way through the ADGA website?
Salem is so brave. I agree with everyone who said a doggie door with a sensor will work to let Salem in and out of the pasture. I love cajeta! Now I want some.
Build one of the those a frames like they have in the dog agility courses.. I think she would catch on quick with that... she's very smart and a fast learner.. that way she can get back and forth
Salem will instinctively want to protect her pack and territory. You could put a dog flap in the fence with a microchip on Salem’s collar which only allows her access. xx
@@_.-._.-. 😩 Most unfortunate, I'm not familiar with the breed so I wasn't sure! Maybe a doggy door that's microchip activated built into the fence is a better option?
Stairs made for dogs to get up on bedside that in a spiral design ( to deter lambs from climbing) to a platform at the top of the fence line and regular stairs down to the inner yard
Have you considered a doggie door that responds to a chip either Salem’s microchipped (if she’s chipped) or one attached to her collar? That should keep the goats out. Just attached it to a small break in the fencing?
I was going to say Doggy Door, but if your not Home and She is still young, I'd hate to see Her hurt😱. That's so Funny you'll have to tell Winnie's new owner about stump Life LOL. Welcome Hazel 💞. Is it Pizza yet? JO JO IN VT 💕😄
Do a field turnstile! They’re all over in England. You have to turn 180 degrees and move the gate so goats shouldn’t be able to do it but Salem could be trained

For still being a puppy Salem looked like she did pretty good with the training, she's a beautiful dog.
For a maybe solution to the in and out for Salem, maybe a doggie door that only opens for Salems collar
That is what I was thinking. Build a door and add a doggie door that only operates to a chip on her collar.
That would be a good idea to keep by coyote from going to the other side where you don't want it to go to
@@anaa6573 you can have a chip on the actual collar as well. But having your animal chipped and data current is always a good idea.
Mom
Once Tatum, daphne, and olive freshen I would love to see a video about exactly what you are looking to improve in each line and the most favored traits of each line
Such a good idea! They each have some awesome qualities - it’ll be interesting to see what they each bring!

Chip dogge Doors i was thinking the same
There's like a doggy door that can be programmed to open either for a specific microchip or an RFID tag on the dog's collar. So no unwanted animals can trespass willingly. :)
I also came to suggest this! They could mount it to the fence
And if Minnie gets out while the coyote is there, it could end badly
@@mongooseodon7608 I have a door in the fence, if the dog, cat or .... it doesn't thru the doggy door!
Great idea
@@mongooseodon7608 Not if minnie doesn't have the "key" chip or tag she won't.

So happy you are keeping Hazel! I love watching her. I hope her previous owner gets to visit a lot. 🥰
