Glad l found you agian..This was my first lesson ..You gave me the basics!! Playing in all 12 keys!! God bless you!! Young man..Keep dancing as well..Took me to new level in my life!!
Your amazing! I just started to learn how to read music and play piano its a little challenging but I loved it! You are an inspiration, and this is one of my favorite songs :)
This young man is on que. I wrote the chords and played right along with the Gap Band CD. For those who may be struggling with any song, it is best to learn the scale the song is in with all the chords in that scale.
you are truley gifted I hear that bass. I knew Robert and the rest of the Gap band he would be proud that his music influenced such a great talent. You put it down bro!!!!!!!!!!!!
@lasemcbride My good man you are CORRECT! I cant believe I let that slip!! I remember thinking "woah that bass IS definitely doing something FUNKY" But I didnt know what! it does go from a F#min7 to a Gmaj9, thanks for the correction.
yyou know what?? wow!! i thought it was just me that noticed that naekid!! lol. your right, he is a very damn good keyboard player. he at times if not most confused the hell outta me too. lucky i know my chords too. now hes on this holy mission. more power to him.
Very nice tutorials. Since you like the oldskool sound so much how about covering an Incognito track as they are one of the few groups around still knocking out high calibre music. I think you would get some great mileage out of Omar and Carleen Anderson too, maybe even the Brand New Heavies. Cheers
The "playing" it isn't really the hard part, if you have the chords or can watch someone p,ay it on camera. What was really hard was composing music like this. As evidenced by all the crap r&b out today where they know nothing chord progressions, scales, melodies .....The music these days is at the level that I was doing when I was banging on a piano at age 7 or 10 and first discovering simple melodies and chords on my own. Literally, childish! The second hardest, might be figuring out and playing music like this by ear (I do that for fun -- try it!)
africkinamerican couldnt agree more. Nowadays it's all about production, for better or for worse. Buuuut there is definitely an 80's revival going on now, check out "Breakbot" - he's a dude in France who writes 80's R&B, using contemporary production techniques. The youtube channel "Disco Thrill" has a lot of the neo-R&B 80s revival stuff, which has been given the label "Nu-Disco". Check it out!
I think that G chord in the bridge might have a b natural in it.. at least it sounds that way when I slow it down in Anytune. But the g minor works. Thanks man!
the beatboxing is a huge part of the reason his tutorials are so funky! its great haha. But yeah I know he doesnt do tutorials anymore. No disrespect to Jarreau or nothing (because the guy is a GOOD keyboard player), but I noticed that a lot of the chords he was laying down werent always right, he might have been gettting them from online somewhere
he did say and give shout outs on most of his tutorial to different people thanking them for sending him chord patterns. either they were off or he misinterpreted a lot of their information. but his gap band tutorial was hands down my favorite along with marvin gays inner city blues and mr. magic by grover washington jr.
it's a little dry, and could be funkier, but I do think its pretty accurate. I couldnt find any other tutorial on youtube that had the chords exactly right, and I think this at least does a good job at that.
Ahhhh man. I really dig your channel man. Keep up these tutorials! I scour high and low for these smooth old school R&B chord/progressions. Would you mind doing 'A Night in Tunisia' the chaka khan version? You're awesome. Thanks for sharing your skills/efforts.
trenzwa? thanks!! well the backing track is just a drum beat I made in Logic, and unfortunately it's not available, but I might make backing tracks available on my new website when it opens (soon!)
You are the man ! ( wish I could play like that ) I'm just starting out *&* it seems so confusing .... don't really know where to start in order to become a good keyboard player .. ( any suggestions ? )
@xxdjcharlierockxx shotgun is a great song, but that was the intro to the cosby show lol (though the two songs are VERY similar) I was doin vanessa's dance at the season 6 intro at the start there just to prove to my brother I could do it haha.
Hey trenzwa, great job on that classic track by the Gap Band. I am a new learner and i was wondering where can i get this backing track and others to play along to and practice on? Thank you again for your videos.
Its difficult to start! and the path you choose depends completely on what style you want to go into, and what you want to do. For instance a blues guy will take a different route than a classical guy, although at some points their education may have similarities.
Ha right now i got a radio shack md-992 (same one my baby nephew and niece got for xmas when they were little) and a casio cz1 that's so old, it's steam powered.
Hey Naekid, how can I call in a tutorial request? It's called "Stop, Look, Listen (to your heart)? It's originally by the Stylistics but I like the version by Michael McDonald & Toni Braxton. You can check out the video right here on UA-cam. Thanks.
The best and clearest tutorial on UA-cam for this song. Thank you.
White kid got soul👍🏿🙌🏾
Yo this young man is doing his thing.I applaud you man ,

Nice job! Really clear and concise chord portrayals 👍🎵
Love the Cosby show dance intro! More old school R&B. You're amazing! Keep up the great work.
lol. Great intro bro. Keep the tutorials coming. They are extremely helpful.
For RnB, I think learning how to read music and then learning jazz basics is a good start.
Bless your being for this tutorial

Nice job, but at 0:52 try a G in the bass with a F#, A, B, D, spelling the right hand from the bottom instead of that chord with the B in the bass
Thanks! glad it helped
SWEET!!! You got real skills Kid. Thanx

Hey trenzwa, great job on that classic track by the Gap Band.
I am a new learner and i was wondering where can i get this backing track and others to play along to and practice on? Thank you again for your videos.
That was on point.

thank you!
The program I was using was Logic and the sounds were the electric piano and the liverpool bass
Its difficult to start! and the path you choose depends completely on what style you want to go into, and what you want to do. For instance a blues guy will take a different route than a classical guy, although at some points their education may have similarities.
You can do it!
No doubt!!
Great tutorial
Thanks!
great tutorial!!! in what key is this piece?
really talented musician. Whch keyboard are using?
Thanks Steve! I am using the Axiom Pro 49 which is a flaming pile of garbage IMO. The sounds are being generated by Logic Pro 9 software instruments.
Ha right now i got a radio shack md-992 (same one my baby nephew and niece got for xmas when they were little) and a casio cz1 that's so old, it's steam powered.
africkinamerican hahaha nice
