I honestly love ordering through DM's Guild and it has helped me fill out my collection with items I otherwise would never be able to get my hands on it. It's a much more affordable way to collect out of print items. One of the first things I ordered was the Rules Cyclopedia and it cost around $40, on ebay the original book was being listed at $300 on average (some listings were asking $600) until the POD version came along I had resigned myself to the fact I would never own it, now it is one of my favourite items in my collection.
Yeah I ordered the Rules Cyclopedia and I’m looking forward to getting it! Third party sellers definitely have the prices skyrocketed on some of these out of print books. I wish there was more 3.5 options. I finally caved in and ordered Fiendish Codes ll: Tyrants of the Nine Hells on eBay and I’m ashamed at how much I payed for it 😂. But I justified the purchase by selling my Dark Phoenix and Cyclops Toys R Us exclusive Marvel Legends 2 pack for $209. So I technically just traded one collectible for another. Too bad they didn’t have that one POD. But I do plan on ordering the Draconomicon POD!
I ordered a POD of the D&D Rules Cyclopedia one time , and it had the right cover, but was a children's history book on the inside. They were cool about it and sent me a replacement, which was fine.
I still have the originals of most of those modules. I managed to buy 30 of them from the late 70s until ‘83. Lots of allowance money spent on those and the arcades. :)
They do look good...I am so youth challenged (that's old as dirt) that I still have most of the originals, but looks like a great option to fill any holes I have...Just happen to pull all of these out recently... I am remodeling and reorganizing of my game room ...will have to see how many I might be missing...thanks again for the vid...nice job....Jim
I think there quality is pretty good especially for the price, it's a great way to get rare and expensive modules. However there are some modules that are just better for at the table play when you can take the cover off and take maps out. I think it would be awesome to get them to print in the original form so we can remove covers and whatnot.
In Australia, I found problems, because the last hop of the delivery was done by a driver lobbing the package at my house, so that it was damaged. I contacted them to try and find out what company was responsible but they refused to tell me. I never got another home delivery. I probably would have spent a grand on books easy if I could have during the two years of lockdown, but why risk having them ruined? I have tried to get something in writing promising that they will have the deliverer get my signature now, but they haven't responded. I guess they don't care...
I’m actually sitting here reading my POD Rules Cyclopedia and you’re gonna love it! It’s one of my favorite RPG books ever produced. The POD for this one is definitely quality. Hope you enjoy it a lot!
@@patkelley8293 HAHAHA, yeah that’s the only thing that’s a bummer about POD. It feels like it takes forever to get to you. But it’s worth the wait, I promise!
I order my word cyclopia from them and I'm very happy I'm looking at two or more books through them to build up my collection I want to start playing some BX and ad&d if I can
The pandemic has noticeably slowed down POD services (along with just about everything else, really). They used to be faster outside of the holiday season, where they tended to experience slowdowns as well.
Nice. I’ve never used them myself, but I might check them out for some of the old AD&D adventures that I don’t have copies of. I ain’t about to spend a ton eBay trying to get legit OG copies. I’d go broke lol
Yeah some of those older modules can be quite pricey on the aftermarket. Third party sellers get greedy sometimes, but I guess that's just the nature of supply and demand. Value is all relative. For us, the DriveThruRPG Print on Demand service hits the spot! Thanks for watching!
Packing their shipments is the issue. We're talking Amazon levels of inadequacy. Modules tend to be fine; hardcovers usually have minor corner dings. Larger softcover books can be hit and miss. The damage is usually minor creases along the edges of the covers. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of. Seems a little ridiculous that a POD printer can't properly ship books...
Have you tried ordering a premium color hardcover book? I wonder the quality of those. And, have your books shown held up over the 5 months? Assuming they've gotten used...
@@BlackDragonRPGReviews Hi, did you release a video comparing standard and premium quality in the end? If you did, I can't find it. Super interested in that comparison.
@@BlackDragonRPGReviews Return to Keep on the Borderlands, Gamma World 1E, and 3 Gamma World Modules. I’ll order 5 more modules if they come out good. Now I need about 15 more that I can see. I’d love to see Top Secret too. So much to get!
These are standard. I’ve ordered premium before and honestly there’s not enough difference to justify the bigger cost. So if there’s the option for both, I always go standard.
Their UK printers are good, but they don't have any EU printers, so thanks to Brexit I pay through the nose for customs when ordering from them >_> Lulu has a similar print quality and actually has EU printers, so when I have the choice I avoid DTRPG.

Great video. I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing. I may need a couple of these for a swords and wizardry adventure
Nice review! I've mostly bought PDFs from them but a few POD books and all have been outstanding. Lulu has been pretty good for me, too.
Sweet. I gotta start ordering stuff on there. Thanks for the video.
Any time!

Thanks Jim! DriveThruRPG is a great way to fill the holes in your collection! It’s definitely a lot cheaper than trying to find a decent copy on eBay.

The printers that DriveThru use in the UK are good too. I've had several hardback and softback books from them and been very pleased.
Yeah I’ve heard several good things from people in the U.K. about their experiences with DriveThruRPG as well. I’m glad you’ve had good results!
