    Thank you for the comment! Sorry for the extended credits, but we had almost 100 people working on the film (cast and crew), most of whom worked for little or no money, so we wanted to make sure everyone was acknowledged. The next one will have much more story!!

    When i look at really low budget films, and short films what i like to see is a movie that covers up its uglies well, and is able to immerse you enough that you don't question the lil things that look cheesy or bad. Because its been covered up well. I was impressed.

    Thank you!! Yes, in some cases, the audio was recorded in the studio. For example, the trooper dialogue and the voice emitted from the case were recorded in the studio. Additionally, a few lines of dialogue in the bathroom were rerecorded.
    Again, thank you for viewing and commenting on the film!

    In the feature version that scene plays out differently. We didn't have the budget to do what was originally written, so I choose to leave it open-ended.

    Great short piece...absolutely succeeded as a teaser, as I would dearly love to see it as a full-length movie. You've done a lot with very little: a stark setting, most characters hidden behind a veil, and even the central character is unconscious for a good part of the movie. Well done!

    Although it's close to impossible to come up with an "original" idea in the sci-fi genre, this looks so different to anything Hollywood is churning out lately, it's bound to be a hit. I wish you all the best in making that dream a reality. The idea of someone suddenly realising they're not human, combined with the full on action of people chasing her. Keep pitching, you will get there.

    This was so well done! In so many respects, I can hardly think to list them off, very nice job!
    When she breaks through the cement roof structure was probably the coolest part about your effects because you could tell you had some ingenious pre-production idea that would be better than any CGI and it clearly worked very well, but if that is CGI, it's amazingly well done!

    One thing I've learned from every sci-fi short that ever featured flying robots with gatling guns-- they always miss the main character at close range, even though back in the '80s actual ship-based Phalanx systems could shoot down missiles flying 700 mph a mile away, and the land-based systems could shoot down not only rockets, but incoming mortar shells. Nice production values though.

      Sadly, the hero would die in the first 5 minutes. Oh, wait... it's a short film, so that's probably okay.

    • @rvl480van5
      @rvl480van5 6 років тому +1

      Maybe they missed on purpose so that the main character, who appears to be some sort of cyborg, is not catastrophically damaged somehow. Maybe she's a very expensive piece of equipment or has critical information that would be lost forever if she is destroyed.

    • @psyborgfpv9714
      @psyborgfpv9714 6 років тому +1

      I was more focused on the fact the bot barely made it out of the tub then nearly falls down trying to stand and 30 seconds later it kills 3 fully trained tactical personnel. I do agree with the Phalanx statement though as I saw them first hand when they were in the testing phase on the Nimitz back in the early 80's. 1 second of BRRRRT and what ever it was pointed at was shredded by 1000+ rounds.

  • @morcombewise720
    @morcombewise720 8 років тому +4

    Overall, well done. But I hope a few observations can be useful in putting together the next effort (spoilers, guys):
    Four points about conduct of the characters, and some points about the technical details.
    Character Behavior:
    1. It took nearly a minute for the fugitive woman go from unconscious to barely able to stand in a dizzy fog. Then it takes her less than 3 seconds to recover from that barely-coherent state to outfighting multiple opponents with weapons, helmets and body armor?? Hasn't the screenwriter ever recovered from general anesthesia, or even a hangover? Clearly, the setup is supposed to maximize the impact of her display of combat prowess, and jar the audience with the change in pacing, but it was too abrupt to be believable.
    2. You'd think guys with guns would have the sense to stay back and use their advantage in range, but in some films they seem to stupidly walk/stumble into their opponent's arm's length range, even after they can obviously see they guy in front of them get taken down for doing just that. This film is no exception. The reason real footsoldiers keep their distance from the guy in front is so they don't fall victim to the kind of human train wreck this film depicts. Thrilling, sure, but unconvincing to the point of being laughable.
    3. The SWAT team were alert and vigilant in the hallway, and then in the room they're blind and oblivious? They can see her in the room from the hallway, but not in the bathroom from the room? Continuity!! Incredible. Literally.
    When the scriptwriter, editor and director all know virtually nothing about actual combat except for what they learned from other films, do little research, and have no consultants, they inherit those prior films' low level of realism, and repeat their mistakes. It's like cinematic inbreeding, with comparable results.
    So, a large dose of suspension of disbelief in human behavior (augmented or not) was required to stay engaged in this film.
    Technical:
    The wire-frame projection display of the woman's body was 2D, not 3D. When the director tried to use an angle shot, that gave it away. If you have to use low-budget VFX, have the sense to avoid highlighting their shortcomings.
    Since we're talking about it, why did they even bother to display her entire anatomy? It's a _memory_ reconstruction treatment, people. Even if they showed a graphic of just her brain, which might _seem_ relevant, we already know today that memory is not localized in the brain; it's distributed. So, a visual representation of the brain would be useless for diagnostic purposes. You can't really do better than the traditional brainwave images. Old-school, but realistic. Use an MRI scan if you must, but don't stoop to pandering to the assumed geek male audience's lust for simulated naked females (again). This is _filmmaking_, not a video game.
    The sound engineering was competent. I'd rate it higher, because the recording, synchronization, levels, mixing, volume, echo effects and so on were top-notch, but there was one significant mistake: the drone's engines. Getting a low-frequency booming hum from a small object has been the holy grail of speaker engineers for decades, so how could a propulsion unit the size of a matchbox possibly do it? The Laws of Physics say "NO". My guess is that the sound engineer offered a more appropriate sound, but the director wanted something more frightening for the soundtrack than a buzzing whine and some footsteps...
    4. Unfortunately, using that sound effect causes a problem with the SWAT team's technique: Why bother creeping along quietly, when your drone's so loud they can probably hear it in the next building? You can give it silent / quiet engines, lose the drone completely, or just walk normally behind it... As it is, the team's approach and their use of a noisy drone are, frankly, glaringly mismatched to the point of being silly.
    These errors are outweighed by the pluses, though. The acting was very professional including a passable German accent), and the cinematography, pacing, and visual effects (other than the wireframe hologram-wannabe) were top-notch.
    And despite noting some of the film's flaws, I enjoyed it! Keep improving.
