I’ve been working at Audi for 5 years now. 3.0T is one of the best and reliable engines for sure. Only known issues is the coolant systems. Thermostat, front coolant pipe , water pump. Really not hard to replace any of those if you have good mechanical knowledge. I’ve worked on Q7s and S4s with over 200k miles and it’s still running great. The key is to buy one with good service history and not modded at all if possible. You can’t trust anyone’s work except yours

@amd dcm mine gets an average of 20 mpg, with about a 75/25 city/hwy mix and somewhat spirited driving most times. I'll leave the math/conversion to you :)

Best car I ever owned. 58,700 miles on my S4. Bought it CPO with 3k miles on it. This will be the first car I keep beyond 60k miles. No complaints!

When you got the ultra charger. Is it a must to upgrade supercharger pulley? I already have crank pulley, upgraded intercooler and tune

Very, very fast. I would rate it low 11 second quarter mile quick, but with the refinement you'd expect from an Audi. Its really great when you can create an epic balance between refinement and speed. This car does exactly that!
Great review. Great selection on car mods. Love that it's manual. Kudos for a 8 min video that felt like 4 min max. Actually made me want to own one of these cars. Still like the c63, but having manual makes this car slightly pull ahead on the list of 4 door options available. Keep it up man....never disappointed with your videos.

I've watched this video so many times over the years.
The B9 S4 is a single turbo 3.0. And is a planetary automatic, not DSG. Way different than the B8.
DaylightDarknes the tuning company that tuned my s4 b8 have the new s4 b9 and have told me to keep my b8 as the gear box in the b9 is not good
DaylightDarknes they will have a DSG soon. But to be honest, I would not be getting one until the DSG is available.
The B9 S5/S4 is *not* going to get a double-clutch, it's already been confirmed by Audi.
Later into life cycle it will most likely get one. So around 2019-21.

Boosted Boys I'm looking to do the same! lol. the GTI is an amazing value and is a blast on a twisty backroad, but I need a little more comfort and the awd for when it's slick. I drove one at 35 degrees and rain and it stuck like fly paper! got back in the GTI and spun like crazy getting out the dealer lot. selectively looking..

Very reliable when regular fluid changes are done. Saw a few at the dealership with near 200k with nothing but regular maintenance.

And as another person also mentioned, the transmission is different as well.
maby better for tuning also this b8 i think is limited to this stage 3 if had a turbo perhaps have already 800ps or more lol

i have this exact setup but unitronic and it RIPS. incredible. and 500 HP is probably conservative.
Another option for headers for the 3.0T is mertech...There s eurocode copy and are only $275usd..I've had mine on for over 1yr with no issues at all

With the E92 M3 you have torque on all the rev band, it is enough where you don't fight it. The e92 is simply just a benchmark along with the E46 M3. I have e92 M3 (2012 ZCP). Recently my daily got rear ended (2011 E90 328i LCI). So I'm leaning towards a couple cars: b8.5 S4, E90 335i LCI, Mercedes e 350 sport. It's a hard decision.

Why is he comparing S4 with M3 or C63 AMG? they are not competitors. S4 is a competitor for C450 or 335i.
Oh Adams Because the B8 RS4 wasn't brought to North America. It's sort of the closest logical competitor, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
People did the same thing with the M5/E63 and C6 S6.
In the last, the M3 and S4 would have been the competitors here in the US. The e36 M3 and b5 S4 were similar. Same story with the e46 M3 and b6/b7 S4. That did change when the e9x M3 and b7 RS4 came out., though.
I just bought a 2014 Audi S4 Prestige with all APR stuff, it’s got APR Stage 2+ Tune, Trans tune, Ultra Charger, Dual Pulley, and the intake. How much HP should it be pushing? If someone could estimate. I was told 450 or so, but I feel like it’s faster.

What is the difference between the ultracharger and the standard dual pulley upgrade?
I see prestman referred to a lot when talking about how cheap you can get cars, but every one I looked at was a salvage title. There are a ton of salvages out there, make sure you know before buying. I just bought a 2015 s4, most were around 30k depending on options / mileage.

So, $2500 headers, a $2500 exhaust - after install, we're talking about $6,000 in exhaust alone on a car that the host says you can get for under $20,000?
Dave Linger I'd be very leery about a sub $20k B8.5. I'm in no way saying that were all beat or have issues but I'd want an independent shop to look at it. Maybe $21-22k with some miles but $16k no way.
I have a 2013 s4 6MT as well! I am about to Stage 1 her right now, what do you recommend for reliability to do? Is stage 2 reliable enough over time? I'm at 50k miles atm.

I have just over a year to run on the warranty on my 2011 3.0T S5 SportBack - the same engine as this. I am in NZ. Once the warranty runs out, what should I do? I am looking at S7, or modding my existing car, or changing to a Jag F-Type. It is my daily driver, so I need to be able to get home! Suggestions, UA-cam?

Johnny Nygårds M3’s are great, but I’d go for the s4. You can get a better price per performance and I believe there are better mods for them. And s4 is all wheel drive too.
so I got an e93 M3 and its a pretty cool car, I get compliments pretty often.
but i keep looking at s4. you can pick them up around 20-30k and its more mod friendly than an M3
there really isnt much you can do to an m3 other than bore out the engine, supercharge it, and exhaust
these are all big cost installs where as s4 mods are cheaper
if you want big power low cost then I would get a 335i with the n54 power plant, years 07-10. they can go up to 700hp
Before my 911 turbo, I had an E92M which I still miss to this day. The S4 is a great sporty daily driver, while the M3 is an entry level sports car. Numbers wise, sure forced induction is king, but emotional attachment, V8 exhaust, and steering feel go to the M3 hands down. That S65 engine is a gem, and forever will be
But whats the real life daily driver reliability like?
wavyheat305 it's great. I haven't had anything major. Things to watch it for are the DSG mechatronic board going bad or the 6MT clutch needing replacement. Anything 2013+ will be fairly rock solid
___ ___ thats Great to hear. My B6 bit the dust so im definitely looking into newer models as im stuck on S4's. nothing out weighs the practicality of it. A Not base model car with awd in New england. Only rivaling cars are subies and XS cars from infiniti....but who wants to go from S4 to infiniti anyway.
wavyheat305 I really like the Q60 and the interior is beautiful. I test drove one a few months I got my S4 and kinda wished I had waited for them to arrive. Test drive the red sport and maybe you'll like it. I don't know about the low trim ones but the high trims are great. I also test drove an STI and I really didn't like it
___ ___ I love how aggressive the Q60 looks but I actually need 4 doors for the family so the Q50 awd S was the runner up behind an S4.
wavyheat305 oh yeah then nevermind. The S4 really has no competition for everything it is. I love it. If you can afford it and don't mind the reflashing and flashing or aren't going to tune and mod too much, get a CPO. It covers about 85% of the car and is great

Recently purchased a 2017 SQ5. The last year before the 2018 redesign and its a blast to drive. It's the wifey's as Im sticking to the B8.5 A4 AR. Does APR make the Ultra Charger for the SQ5?

B7 RS4 has more pedigree, soul and thoroughbred.
but the drive of the B8.5 S4 is more advanced, comfortable and elegant. Different strokes for different folks.
