  • There's been one huge aiptasia in this tank for months and it needs to go away. While the tank needed to be circulation-free for a full hour, it was the perfect time to clean the equipment, soaking those in Pump Clean for a while. A quick demonstration of how I use F Aiptasia was included, and some closeups of the critters was included. Plus you get to see Flare, the Japanese Pygmy Angelfish.
I sell Pump Clean and F Aiptasia on my website, because they work and I like to sell what I use. www.melevsreef.com

All you need to do is drop a pair of peppermint shrimp in the tank and damage the aptasia so they smell it. The peppermint shrimp will eat them. Do it in the morning when you haven’t fed the tank. Worked great for me.

Love that these videos show new reefers the reality of taking care of our reef tanks long term. Its an ongoing process like maintaining a complex garden. Thanks for sharing!

Been following your channel for quite some time now Marc. To this day I’m still deeply saddened by the loss of Cait’s passing. She was a beautiful soul, with a wonderful heart. I’m so happy to see that you’ve continued to keep her alive thru the amazing things that you do for her on this channel. I really miss her and am so glad that she found love in a gentle, kind and passionate person such as you. You both truly were made for each other. Much love always to the both of you. ❤❤

A thick kalkwasser powder is cheap and works great at killing aiptasia, I had three in my tank and ever since using it in a syringe a year ago I haven’t seen any since

If I find the odd one in my tank I just cover it with some milliput. It just gets entombed, doesn't spread. Just a lot simpler and cheaper than any other method.

I’ve been using epoxy to cover up the aiptasia in my tank. I almost used a whole stick this morning trying get every one of them. I usually have the best luck with Berghia, but they’re not always easy to find online. I tried F-Aptasia for the first time a couple months ago, but they end up coming back.

Careful with that stuff, you're gonna get a pH spike if too much applied!

Those damn limpits have taken over my tank lol there is hundreds all the rocks and every glass panel on my evo 13.5, I've never seen so many 😆 and I only added 1 tiny piece of live rock to help seed the dry I started with. I guess I'm just gonna scrape them up to the top and out of the tank when I see them on the glass. I know they're beneficial but it looks hideous with hundreds all over the glass every day lol At least they're all pretty small 🙈

Do you think the aiptasia came in on the live rock or a frag?

    • @melevsreef

They definitely can come in on most anything.

why dont you build a net top for the tank? that way you don't have to deal with algae buildup like you do on the glass top?

The air stone would spatter saltcreep everywhere. The cover only takes a couple of minutes to clean, every two weeks.
