I was afraid to go with Viking in their first year in Antarctica...I should have known that anything they do, they do well. We had the Drake Shake but the patches worked for us... But as retired cop from Florida, it reminded me, watching everyone swerve left and right as they tried to navigate hallways, of working a DUI checkpoint. Excellent video!
Hey Linda, glad you're enjoying the series. Not silly questions at all. Dressing right can make the difference between an enjoyable day and being miserable on this trip. First, no, you do not wear shoes inside the boots. I do recommend that you wear at least sock liners as well as "thick" socks in the boots and I cover this more completely in Tip #8 in my Tips Video -> ua-cam.com/video/s7YVxhvnI-U/v-deo.html I also give some detail on how to layer up regarding pants in the Day 9 video, I link to the proper section here -> ua-cam.com/video/7ra6WvCyYC4/v-deo.html I hope this helps. Enjoy!
Great content….thank you! We are going on Polaris in December 2022. Curious about sizing for coats and shells? I know you’re wife said the line runs small. What are your “usual sizes” and what worked for you?
That should be incredible...hopefully we get to go on the Polaris trip some day. Would love to hear how you liked it when you get back. Polar Bears will be neat to see...from a distance. 😀 As for me, I normally wear a medium on top but the sizing chart said small based on my measurements so I went with it....it was too small so I had to bump up my jacket & shell size once on the ship. My wife had to go with large on the coat & shell because she might be "above average" up top but then sleeves were a bit long. She went medium on pants and they were way too long. The good thing is you can swap things around as much as you want on pants, coat, shell & boots once you get there, no problem.
Ours wasn't that full. We had a lot of flight changes in the days leading up to the cruise and I think a number of people had to cancel due to that. I think the ship holds 378 passengers and I'm pretty sure our cruise had only around 200 passengers on board. There were times we had our whole area of the World Cafe to ourselves. Also lots of opportunities to grab extra excursions (Kayaks, Special Ops boats)
@@JeffTSanders Thanks--the videos showed venues as pretty empty, and my husband asked me if you all had permission to film during "off hours" or if the ship was part full--thanks for the clarification! We've had lots of changes and difficulties getting info updates, so your videos have been VERY helpful and very reassuring. You really do provide a wonderful service! How did folks dress in the restaurants?
@@norriswilliams2558 We ate a lot at the World Cafe, which is quiet casual. We also had several dinner reservations at Manfredi's, which my wife calls "country club clothes" 😂 (I wore dress pants and long sleeve button up shirts)
Excellent. Wide variety, always freshly made sushi at dinner along with a crab leg & shrimp bar. Tons of options for everyone from vegetarians to meat lovers. We had a Tomahawk steak one night that I thought was really good. Fruit bar at breakfast along with a made-to-order omelette station. Freshly made bread, pizza & panini's at lunch & dinner. Too many options to mention. Truely everything you could want. The hard part is not eating too much. Then there is the gelato bar...ohhh. A new thing they added on this ship I haven't seen on other Viking ships is a "cold slab" style custom gelato area where they will mix up a special concoction to your specs including a wide variety of ingredients. Cookies & muffins, always the famous heart shaped waffles at Mamsons. Amazing!

Haha! You're so right.
I'm enjoying the videos. thanks
Thanks Jeff, so informative and complete. I have a couple silly questions. Do you wear shoes in the boots? How do you layer under the pants? Thanks

I learned more new information. When I go in January, I should be well acquainted.
Love these. We are going Jan 23. I’m REALLY worried about sea sickness from the Drake passage, though!
I gave some detail on the Drake in my other response. Good luck!
we are going Jan 23, 2022 ... we'll see you there
Thanks you very much for the videos. Will you have videos for day 4 and on?
Thanks! Working on Day 4 now.

Thanks for these videos. How full was the ship? We are booked on the Octanis embarking 26 Feb and appreciate your advice.
