Creating Designer Toys - Master sculpt methods for molding

- Hi everyone - I'm Facter (@facter on IG) and this is my third tutorial on how I create my own designer toys for Irikanji Toys.
In this episode I talk about the methods I use for making the master sculpts for my toys, covering everything from sculpey, apoxysculpt, kitbashing and 3d printing ...and a whole bunch of combinations of the above !
To be very clear - I am NOT a master of toy making! The title of this video means that this is how you create the master piece that is used for molding and casting! :D
So the audio may be out a little in this video, sorry ... I didn't want to record it for a fourth time (ugh) - I've since changed software so hopefully in future this stuff won't happen as much!

I've been doing graffiti and street art for 25 years, and have been making my own toys for about 4 years now, in Melbourne, Australia. It's been an amazing journey so far - still have so much to learn, but id like to share what I already know, and learn from everyone else - so please leave comments or suggestions, and constructive criticisms!
Disclaimer - please bear with me in this ongoing series, I'm really new to this and the first few videos won't be great - just saying yo - but I'm adjusting them as I go along and I hope in the near future I'll have everything fixed and running smoothly. So until I start to nail this, expect shitty or choppy video, accidentally working on things out of frame, poor lighting, voice overs because I forgot to turn on mics and constantly changing and bad camera angles! I do hope the sometimes rough beginnings dont dissuade you from subscribing, I have so much more stuff I'm gunna share!

Brilliant video! I loved the multi angle approach! very inspiring dude. 3D Printing bases sounds cool! This channel is coming together awesomely! I love that idea of making a transformer! That is definitely a destination for you. Maybe buy two plastic snap together model kits of a car and dissect one of them and see what limbs and shit you can make out of it.
I’ve been sculpting little things here and there and I’ve finally convinced myself to start doing more thanks to your video! I’m hoping to cast them in vinyl or resin eventually to share with friends 💖

I've actually been sculpting a character in ZBrush & then plan to do some engineering in adding articulated joints. 3D Printing is definitely the way to go and if you ever needed assisted on a project, feel free to let me know! 🙂 Also recommend a Resin 3D Printer for for a smooth, detailed finish.

Great stuff. I'd really like to hear your about your process for painting (especially in bulk) and i was wondering if you have ever worked with soft vinyl? Also if you have any tips on the design process, that would be great.

Thanks for this series. I woken up today and decided to take the plunge and make my toy I've been working on for a while now. Are you going to do a video on how you go about actually getting your toy produced on a larger scale or tips on where to sell your toys?
