The global goofballs think that they are meteorologists, but they can't predict the future climate. They have tried for almost fifty years, but the their doom predictions pass by their dates, and they look foolish. NYC and Miami are still above water, the polar regions may have receded, but they're still there. The real scientists are laughing at them and rolling their eyes when they come up with another "doomsday date". A track record like that would have gotten an Old Testament prophet stoned on the first failed prediction. They should thank God that it doesn't happen anymore.

The daughter, son in law and 3 young grandsons of a friend of mine are on vacation in Maui and are now stuck there because of the fires-without food or electrical power. So scary! I hope they are able to get out safely.

The preferred narrative behind the proxy war in Ukraine took all of four months or so to collapse once people started putting it in historical context. It was kind of hard to keep it going when people could watch lectures by international relations scholars going back 10 years ago who told you exactly what would happen and why. They realized they couldn't spin it and that public opinion would gravitate towards negotiating a buffer state in Ukraine and that meant defense contractors wouldn't get their pay day. So now they're just sweeping it under the rug because it's a debate they can't win. Out of sight out of mind and that way they can keep the tax dollar spigot going.
The reality is that there was only ever one way the conflict was going to end: With a buffer state in Ukraine. The US gambled when it backed the Maidan coup in 2014. The Russians called their bluff and invaded. That's that. The US isn't willing to do a full mobilization 20th century style war over it, so they're going to have to eventually negotiate with the Russians and that's going to mean losing the Eastern part of Ukraine forever. If they were willing to go the mat over it, Ukraine would already have NATO membership. Neolibs in the US gambled and lost. Now they're prolonging the conflict to make the arms industry happy and bilk tax payers and within a few years, that's going to become untenable, especially when people start asking why we're blowing billions on Ukraine while bridges are crumbling and people are drowning in debt while wages stagnate for four straight decades. This is the neolibs' leadership, their actual track record.
