I'm assuming Pam Long was writing by this time. Laying the groundwork. Poor Beth's abuse story, her story with Phillip, Annabelle Simms ghost story, the Mrs Piper / Brandon Spaulding/ Barbados story, and so much more. I was young but I so remember this era. Loved it.
I was in high school so I never saw this episode. At the time, I didn't really realize how absurdly dumb & so unsupportable Lilian was toward Beth. Nothing like Bradley pointing the sharp end toward her own daughter. Lilian really was a ridiculous ninny. I had a malicious stepfather and even though this is soap opera land my mother would have hauled me out of that house away from such crazy behavior.....Eeeeeeeek!
