I have a theory, correct me if I might be incorrect. But when we become allies with Savathûn, we might have to fight an rebel faction within the Lucent Brood led by Alak-Hul. (Because if I remember correctly, his ghost fled)
Important note: one of the cabal who shows up in the final encounter of this mission is named Tuk'rin, who we've actually seen before in the Bump In The Night lore tab, where he got promoted to Centurion when his commander went insane on the Leviathan.
Was Tuk'rin the one that reprimanded their soldiers for not wanting to go to the leviathan? Or the one that assumed control of the unit after their officer died?
@@voltus20they killed their commander because a nightmare had drove them mad, then came back to the forward barracks and gave everyone shit for not wanting to go, and nobody argued because they had claimed command by cabal right
Back I season of the Lost when she told us “If you want to know what’s been watching you since the beginning, stand on the edge of light and dark then look up.” When you physically did that(stand on the edge where the her shadow meets the light and look up) you see a triangle inside of a circle. She knew all along. That’s insane forshadowing.
@@FalconZero18 ua-cam.com/video/mrO0OoalqIQ/v-deo.html He doesn’t quite get close enough but you can imagine if he walked forward a little bit the triangle would be lined up with the circle in the background. Super trippy
Despite Light granting immortality, and Darkness empowered Disciples being very hard to kill, despite staving of Death for centuries, no character in Destiny lives forever. Savathun is bound to die one day. With that said, it’s hard to pinpoint, where, and how, her story will end. I see her story ending one of three ways: forced exile from Sol. Dying while fighting the Witness and its forces. Or being incapacitated by Thorn, other relics, or light suppressing technology the Coalition has access to, that we’d use in order to commence a trial as the Coalition of Sol judge her to an suffer an eternity of imprisonment in the Prison of Elders, the City, or a prison in the sea of screams or one made by the Nine or Awoken in the Ascendant Plane.
@@syrupstand Think he refers to Saint-14 and the player, as Saint-14 is a Guardian, and not a man who carry a certain rank, he is simply just a Guardian, and so are you.
“Sometimes the battle is stepping away from the battle”. Such powerful words, chosen well, delivered wonderfully with stoicism. Even more eloquent when you realize: that’s possibly one of the few battles Xivu Arath can never win. She is so driven by war that she believes herself to be war itself. She can’t leave the battle because of her worm, her nature. It’s more than a necessity to her, it’s and addiction. Perhaps Zavala’s words are a hint to defeating Xivu Arath (permanently).
Maybe we beat her by truely empathising with her and telling her "We know how Oryx death shook your world and how alone, lonely and full of rage you feel espacially by the betrayal of your sister. We`re so sorry for your loss."
I mean, yeah. But that's how you beat all the ascendant hive: take away their incoming devotion and sacrifice so that you starve the worm. Then march on their throne world and hand them their own ass. Then, if you do it enough times, they die. Unless they decide to turn into a guardian though, that complicates things
Here is a thought the witness seems like they are trying to stop conflict in some way, be it domination so over the top that there will never be conflict again or something else. That would really be a problem to the ascended hive of war
I’m not too surprised by any of this. Narratively you don’t leave her ghost alive without using it somewhere in the story. It’s Chekhov's gun. I’d be disappointed if they didn’t bring her back.
That's kind of true, but he did have a narrative or rather gameplay reason for staying alive and that was to lead the lucent hive and be the voice through the patrol zone
I'm not surprised either, but man is it exciting. It's the how that I'm surprised by though as i always imagined some shenanigans done by immaru to get in close to res her. Not us having to res her out of desperation.
I think the community as a whole knew Savathun would come back at a later date since Daddy Immaru was kept alive, it was just a question of "when" and its very exciting to finally see it happening!
I remember Mithrax saying back in Season of the Splicer: "Imagine the Guardians, the Cabal, the Eliksni and even the Hive like fingers of a hand, fighting against the Darkness together, forming a fist", then Ikora asked him: "Will you be allies with Savathun?" I think now we have our answer.
That isn't confirmed at all, the Narrative designer just said the radio log this week was the last lines He recorded with Lance. Bungie doesn't record lines in chronological order so we still might hear Zavala in future seasons maybe even LF.
I bet Osiris is going to be onboard with it and Saint is going to be in disbelief. Osiris has never shied away from the extreme risky solution if that's what it takes.
@@gargathulothhastur4981 that was when she was still a proto hive. Besides, point to a single character that has deceived the Witness, oh there isn't anyone to ever pull it off, that isn't Savathun? Curious.
I'm imagining then doing the most girly jumping high five freeze frame with them gleefully smiling because it's comically out of character fir both of them.
@@xuriso_lannister Oh definitely Eris and Elsie will be there, getting extremely uncomfortable as Savathûn and Mara aggressively flirt with each other.
I really feel like the voice acting in D2 is so overlooked. Its always amazing. Hearing the little differences in Osiris and Savathun as Osiris, Eramis sounding beaten down in Plunder, The Witness's quiet rage, the turmoil in Season of the Haunted and now. Its pretty much always great
Agreed. It almost feels like the VAs were told that this specifically was going to be an extremely important part of the story, and everybody went above and beyond. It's generally been really good anyways, but this was just another level. And Xivu specifically has been really well done.
Maybe I'm looking into it too much but the way Saladin just transmats out without doing the walk back also shows how angry he is. You can hear it in the conversation and when he just acknowledges everyone in the room before leaving, its so much more "sharp" than usual. With all those Titans in the room its a surprise nothing got broken except in spirit and a little of trust.
The Sloane cutscene was so damn cool. Xivu's last desperate attempt to Take her to prevent her from getting that information from Ahsa. The new lore card is pretty interesting too. The Witch Queen theme playing after what Ahsa tells us was a nice touch. In one of Elsie's dark futures (or maybe all of them; I forget) Eris had power over Savathun, so if anyone can keep her somewhat on a leash, it's her.
Still, that is a bit forbidding. But, at this point, I don’t see any of the variations of Elizabeth’s dark futures playing out. So much has changed. Too much, in our timeline, for that dark future to occur. In every dark future, the Witness never made the link and invaded the Traveler.
Yes she did, she was the Witch Queen in those timelines. Anything can happen. I think one wrong move and we’re in a Bombardment in our timeline again. Desperate times, desperate measures. We have no choice
@@drakenblazinggaming5478 Funny thing is, with a title like Lightfall, and the darker, more serious tones of the initial teaser, and later neon-soaked trailer featuring Neomuna, I really thought we’d suffer a great loss in Lightfall’s campaign. Not a full bombardment, but say, a Hive invasion with Taken involved, us loosing citizens and key figures, along with a quarter of Neomuna being destroyed, with a good number of Neomuni in the CloudArk being killed or Taken by Xivu Arath and House Salvation. Think about it, the Veil may have exterior defenses, and it’s own natural defense, but Calus was able to nearly capture it. With their combined skills, Xivu and Eramis could possibly invade the CloudArk and kill/capture Neomuni. Making no where safe for its citizens. At that point, we’d have to coordinate a mass exodus from Neomuna. Making more room for them in the City, while offering safe harbor in the Dreaming City. The Dreaming City may be stuck in a curse loop, but at least it wouldn’t be half decimated by the Hive and Taken.
@@niks660097 makes you wonder if she would still deceive anyone though. I mean, she doesn't have a worm to feed, no reason to have the Traveler for herself (since it's 'dead' now). And most of her lies had been revealed by now (from how she helped in the first collapse, and most of the things she said in two truths, two lies). Then again, this is the being who lived eons deceiving others.
I love that post conversation with Zavala, Saint, and Saladin. EVERYONE knows that this is a stupid idea, but it's the only idea we have. I genuinely hope that Savathun helps us, but also goes back to holding the knife at our throats, it'd be fun and right in character for her.
I feel as though we’d have plenty of means and precautions to ensure her cooperation. Thorn, Osteo Striga, light suppressing technology from Caital’s Ascendnancy, and many other relics and methods we have could subdue or kill her. Leaving her helpless at our mercy, or dead. Not to mention, her only being able to wield Light could a fireteam could immobilize her with Strand and Stasis if she’d tried anything. Think about it, Light and Darkness are polar opposites. She’d have trouble countering against them, especially if she’s on her own aginst an experienced fireteam. Not to mention, skilled Guardians like Aunor and the Hidden would keep eyes on her at all times. Also, considering Eris is partially responsible for the deaths of half the Osmium dynasty, and she had Hive magic, Strand, and Stasis, she could torture any needed information out of Savathun. Eris could maybe even use Deepsight to scour the Witch Queen’s memories. Eris is more than the “Bane of the Swarm” at this point. She’s a bane to all Hive, who refuses to die until they are all extinct.
Oh, she'll help us. At this point if you aren't if you aren't on the Witness' side, you are against him. So, I think Savathun will be on our side as a reluctant ally that will betray us once the fight with the Witness is done.
Knowing what we know now, I think the moment Savathun learns what happened to the Traveler, the first thing she'll probably feel is going to either be anger that we let this happen, or vindication that her plan would have prevented all this and spit it back at us. After everything she learned at the end of Witch Queen with the revelation that they were deceived into both joining the Witness AND learning that their species wasn't in any real danger from whatever the "God Wave" was supposed to be, that she will probably be more than willing to help us, with some smug banter, of course.
Savathûn was the best villain in Destiny history next to Calus. Imagine her having no choice but to aid us in battle against the Witness along with her Lucent Hive armies fighting alongside Guardians and Caiatl’s Cabal troops would be the wildest shit ever.
Now we just need Savathūn to be on the helm in season 22 disguised as our guardian to blend in and smart mouth us whenever we talk with her. I would pay BIG for that.
It would be really cool, but they probably won't do it because it would be expensive as fuck. I believe it's 6 different voice actors (3 for the males of each race and 3 for the females) times how ever many languages the game is translated into. Of course they could simplify it by making it Savathun's actual voice but that wouldn't be as cool
From Savathuns last words, to learning she was the one that hid the Veil, the guardians bringing her back felt inevitable this year, and im really glad it's happening aooner rather than later. I expect that we'll be working with Immaru next season and hopefully have a Savathun final season where we learn how to travel through the portal. I'm looking forward to her scolding about not letting the traveller take asylum in the throne world.
I kind of hope next Season is when we bring Savathun back, preferably early on so she can smart mouth us about her being right. Then, the following season as the final for Lightfall is her plan to bring us through the portal and us doing whatever we need to make it happen.
@@FuKuNinja agree. I don’t think Savathun’s plan would’ve worked either. Considering the Witness has the ability to warp and bend reality, appear as someone else, trick entire species into joining it, can bend space and time, survive an attack by the Trvaler itself, steal planets, and has won in every other dark timeline, I’m pretty sure the Witness would’ve discovered a loop hole in invading Savathun’s Throne world, would’ve used its forces to whittle down the Lucent Brood to nothing, while killing all Hive Ghosts, leaving Savathun, bare and defeated-on a block ready to be beheaded by a Disciple.
I particularly like that Zavala took Saladin’s advice to be the pillar others can lean on, which is what Sloan needed to resist Xivu. And Sloan took Drifter’s advice to accept her baggage and know it gets easier to carry.
I actually Love how all the events of last year have come to shine now, the growth he had was not in vein and all the dialog was amazing I Love when Zaladin tell he's Iron War beast they earned double rations, Saint-14 acting was just absolutely amazing and Zavala response just chess kiss well done bungie team.
Honestly wondering if Oryx’s body also being locked up next to Savathûn’s is gonna lead up to anything with how he has been a thing that tie Savathûn and Xivû Arath together this season. Especially since Immarû was acting under the orders she left behind?
@@GrayvesX its in the lore. They are being kept in the same area without the residents of The Last City knowing since there would be conflict of keeping dangerous being close to their living areas. Should be in the armour lore tabs.
Kinda surprised Byf didn't say anything about the flashes of Sloane being trapped inside her mind by Xivu Arath. That we were shown that at all means it's significant. I wonder how different it is to Osiris's time trapped by Savvers...
We all knew that Savathun was gonna return. Didn’t expect her to be the one to know how to get through the portal. I had expected that we would need her help in fighting Xivu Arath or another one of the witnesses disciples.
There may be possibility that you are right about it(imagine Savathun vs Xivu Arath) or that still unnamed disciple that we might have to hunt down(that disciple may have created taken for the witness)
Bungie have forgotten things before like all the work we put into grind in D1 and invincible villains being boring. All I wanted was for the billionth boring invincible Hive villain getting a thousandth shot at destroying us because gods as villains is the most boring thing the franchise can do and they just keep doing it over and over again. Plus, we could have just had a mission to destroy the Ghost later and that would have still incorporated the Ghost’s survival without giving Savathun yet another chance to get in the way of a good story.
Savathun has been the Greatest Expert on the Traveler and the Witness since the very beginning. It's wierd to me that it had to be pointed out that the only person with a plan on how to stand against the Witness wasn't being taken into consideration in the First place.
Everyone involved with the motion capture/performances and voice acting has been great this season, but that cutscene with Saint-14 (as well as the intro yelling at Xivu) has been a highlight. I didn't expect a fully armored exo titan to steal the show, but he absolutely did
Today’s mission had SO MUCH titan energy. It was actually hilarious. Being a hunter felt oddly appropriate though. Titans to hold the line and a hunter to go on ahead and wreck things.
Honestly super excited for season of the Witch, I'm so glad they're not doing goofy filler seasons anymore. We NEED hard hitting story content now more than ever.
@@-Gilveronestly, i have no clue. We just got hive themed armor with the new dungeon, so unless there's a secondary theme beyond the hive to pull inspiration from, i don't see what theme they could use. Edit: SCORN!! I just remembered that the main opposition of the lucent hive im the throne world is scorn, and we're yet to get a scorn themed armor set, beyond a couple exotic ornaments.
Had a feeling Savathun wasn’t done with us. With her supposedly as an ally that’ll mean we have allies with every OG enemy factions. First Cabal, then Fallen, the Hive, and finally maybe Vex with Asher Mir helping
He might have died but his vexs survived and maybe all pyramidion(that is how it is written i forgot) are now reprogramed by Asher Mir there may be whole pyramidion that is helping US in shadow what you think. I still think that the Black heart should be rebuild and vex from there might help US do this.
These newer revelations and some older ones from lightfall have just solidified how amazing the witch queen story was for me. The way it seems, Savathun’s whole plan in the witch queen was to bring the traveler somewhere the witness couldn’t reach it, somewhere safe to prevent the witness from bringing their plan to reality. But of course, Savathun had contingency plans, which seem to actually be us, but more specifically, Osiris. By leaving the memories of the veil with him, we were actually able to learn what the witness was after when it arrived, that being the veil, and protect it ourselves. We failed of course, but I doubt Savathun is out of backup plans already, so we’ll have to wait and see what she has in store next season
Cool points for the Monte Carlo gameplay. Also, it's quite a coincidence that we're deep diving on Titan and fighting pressure collapse in light of recent events surrounding the Titanic incident.
The final room of Barotrauma is just a reskin of that one chamber from the Dark Below/TTK where we stop Crota from resurrecting/steal a chunk of the Crota crystal
I bet Savathun knew that the Guardian would have to resurrect her since she knew she’s the ONLY person to know how to pass through the travelers portal. Si I bet she told Imaru to wait for the guardian to come to him for the resurrection. This is Savathun we’re talking about, I feel she saw this whole thing play out.
I hope this leads to Oryx being resurrected as a lucent hive. Imagine having the Taken King on our side because his sister brings him back and tells him how they were lied to by the Witness and now they both are on a mission to save their sister from the witness and get revenge on it for deceiving them
Oryx probably knew that the Witness was behind the Hive. In Books of Sorrow there is an episode, where he dives into the Darkness and get soom mysterious answers about the nature of things. He didn't told to Savanthun and Xive, what answers he get. This might be the truth about the Hive's origins
@@KeiOuGi that is very possible. But the witness has lied to them from the beginning. I’m very interested to see how Oryx reacts to that knowledge, whenever it happened or if it does happen
Can't wait for Xivu to come back already. Her voice acting and lines were top notch, some of the very best in the game. Please make her a raid boss, pleeeeeeeease
I thought it was very well-done, especially with the reactions of Saint and Saladin. The rage they felt, and you can tell they aren't okay with it. The ramifications are huge for our little alliance. It was very good. I did think the mission needed a bigger boss to fight at the end, but I still had fun.
the fact that bungie was able to at least be on par with THE WITNESS’ ORIGIN STORY CUTSCENE from last week is amazing!! i didn’t think they could do it, and i know the bar is in hell, but this got me so excited omggg
Figured we would have to resurrect her. We are gathering allies of all factions to fight the witness. We have the cabal and eliksni now just need the Hive and some friendly vex. Classic story telling. Enemy of my enemy is my friend. This also is a way so they do not have to add another alien faction 😂
How do you know the Vex will help? The lore itself states that they came from another dimension, and they don't understand ours so they have to change it using the simulations to understand what's going on. I don't think there can be any friendly vex, unless you use the one that was the basis for the cloudarc on Neomuna?
I wonder if the stuff we're collecting next season would be Light suppression tech from old Red Legion bases, possibly even from the ruins of the Almighty itself. Having Caiatl escorting us around would be a good way to fit her perspective into this. Saladin seemed pretty convinced she wouldn't take it well. Then delivering the tech to Eris and Ikora to build whatever containment they're using on Savathun.
I’ve just realised that the witch queens line “ wouldn’t it be clever of you to simply let me die, oh what a trick” is not only cool it actually opens doors to how far savathun could see into her future.
It's just a shame that Xivu Arath has yet to establish herself as a credible threat by losing yet again. I had predicted that Xivu Arath would (and should've) killed Ahsa during the finale, cutting us off from our source of information, giving Xivu a win and leaving us with Savathun as the only option regarding the portal given her knowledge of the Veil.
Savathun is going to come back and I hope to god she smack talks her sister for constantly mucking her own ambitions up. "What's the matter, dear sister? *Lost your edge?* "
You say she "lost" but not once during that entire fight did she seem concerned. Every blow we dealt to her with a wizards death would have her chuckling momentarily afterwards. More importantly Xivu is a master tactician and knows when to retreat and when not to. I doubt we've seen the last...or worst of her yet
I'm actually most excited to see Drifter's reaction to all of this. The Drifter has been the one to watch for me, with his willingness to help this season unprompted, and his interactions with everyone have been fantastic!
It’s not hard, imagine the direction to take for the crappiest story possible and then realise it involves a Hive god coming back. Don’t finally show us the last one you’ve been teasing for years, no, bring back an old one so any work we did putting her down is undone.
I don't think people are surprised how it happened. We're just happy that it's done in a way that makes sense, fits the narrative and sets up a really interesting story. For now though, let's wait and see how this is going to be executed.
@@MrVidman14 believe it or not, I some of my friends ACTUALLY THOUGHT she was dead for good. I was like “you’re kidding right? You DO KNOW as long as her ghost lives, she lives, and she will be back.”
@@kreia187 I remember telling one of buddies “watch, she’ll say Savathun is the key. Why? Because she is a former disciple and was there for the first fall. I would not be surprised if she even has a hand in bringing back Cayde.
I think the next season will revolve around us gathering ritual elements for Savathun's resurrection or doing work to try to convince/bargain with Immaru, concluding with Savathun's resurrection at the end. The final season will just be us preparing to go into the portal. Remember, they have an entire year to fill up before final shape. This is filler content, so they have to spread the true story elements thin.
I think/hope the "light suppression device" the Cabal used for the assassination attempt on Zavala will make a comeback. So we could capture Immaru maybe and "force" him to resurrect Savathûn if he's unwilling to bargain with us.
A theory i have on why oryx was needing a ritual to have him get resurrected is because they where "forcing" a ghost on to him instead of it being a natural choosing and the ghost reviving him like usual
It's because he isn't dead , can't be brought back if you never died oryx made plans for his death and that was the touch of Malice, his living essence litterally lives on through the touch of malice and that's why his body still grows but his 'mind" is empty
Byf. Im curious to get your interpretation of the final entry from the lore book this season. The Witness is doubting Xivu, and Xivu clearly takes that personally, and seems to have a minor flashback, or something where she MAY end up working with Savathuun (if i read it correctly). I'm also super interested in the potential of a season around the Hidden. We know so little of them, and it's time they get their moment.
The sister from that flashback is Aurash (Oryx), not Sathona (Savathun). I suspect that flashback is intentionally induced by the Witness to remind her of her love for Oryx and to further fuel her resolve to keep fighting against us.
I look forward to next Season considering: 1: according to Patrol dialogue, Ghost knew Immaru before he joined the Hive 2: Guardians can be Rez’d using only a few base components of their Guardian (we’re atomized in Crucible and respawn just fine) 3: We have both Oryx and Savathun and at least Oryx’s body is still active
Kinda wished someone would/will confront Savathun about her no longer having to decive since she cut her ties to her worm/the Witness. Also highly suggest checking out the recent last 2 pages from the new lore book regarding the Witness & Xivu Arath
As someone who isn't playing Season of the Deep, or Destiny at all right now because, well reasons. It's been nice seeing your story recaps for the seasons Byf. It next season perks my interest, which hopefully it does. Perhaps I'll jump back in, maybe.
Definitely can agree, though this feels like an interlude done right. This story felt complete, and a goal set that is already causing conflict. I'm interested to see the future of the story now that we're getting clarity on things.
Yeah it was an interlude but done properly. A lot of the early season was indeed literally padding for time, but also brought some really cool and needed character moments. But at least it gave actual context and reason to care about it's narrative. Something lightfall didn't feel like doing.
@@moonlitmortician6694 that would be fine if the campaign wasn’t also an afterthought. This moment to me was the nail in the coffin. I’m over it. D4 you’re my new main squeeze.
I bet that Osiris is going to be surprisingly chill about this thanks to his work with the flow mentality of strand, and because the knowledge he gained from her has been helpful
I think it is best to describe this season's revelation as a "Perfect Paradox". I've always wanted to bring back the Witch Queen since I stepped into the throne world. I know the main vanguard agents would point guns at me for this alone, but I was absolutely enthralled by her voice, it has a strange soothing tone I take delight in. I will probably play the next season zealously.
@@douglasdoyle5746 next season was leaked a while ago as the season of resurrection. so if those leaks are correct then we could be reviving savathun next season. my guess is ovbiously on the final week
The last lore entry for this season is also super cool for those who haven’t seen it yet. I look forward to hearing what Savathun says about Oryx being somewhat back. I feel like he has to play a part in this too
This easily could of been savathuns master plan to stop the witness Plan A: Seal the traveler and witness can never get to it but she can't fight the witness ALONE Plan B: Guardians beat her and are actually strong enough to defeat the witness (unlikely but there is a chance) Plan C: Guardians lost the fight vs the witness and now they will need me to help them show the way and can become a more "proper" ally, combining her forces with ours since alone she would not be able to fight the witness, but together? maybe.
Seeing how one of her contingency plans has always been to leave things behind/hidden for us to eventually find and gather strenght from, i imagine you're not too far from the truth.
She holds her cards close, even if she didn’t know about Ahsa (which is unlikely) she had to know that if she was beaten (which we know would’ve been impossible without revealing the Witness’ lie) we’d eventually come to the conclusion she be our last hope.
I am so glad you do this. I stopped playing shortly after meeting our cloud strider friends, and will not be spending any more money on the game, but i have always loved the lore.
I really, really, really hope we will finally get to mert Shin Malphur in flesh. It just feels like this is a situation where Shin can help. I just want to finally meet that man in game.
his story is over, for better or worse. the end of his story back in season of the drifter ended with a note which explained he has chosen to retire and leave all his work to the next generation
This week is the first week since this season dropped that I was actually happy with the lore. I really hope this marks a change for destiny story. The passion in the voice lines were amazing.
When did you start playing? I think most players who have played since the beginning are all together in saying this is the worst lore to ever be in the game, I’m confused on what seems good to you? Bungie is obviously just putting the bare minimum together
Idk. I thought it was fine, but really sick of us not losing by believable means, especially when I felt like we should've lost Xivu Araths presence is just so strong and she's supposed to be a direct counter to us and yet we still beat her back through war... you know the very thing we really aren't supposed to beat her in. I personally wish we did lose, and Ahsa died uttering the Savathun bit.
Good solid take. I'd say the problem as to why we haven't had such a moment yet is simple and unfortunate. If we suffered a solid setback, an honest defeat. Our morale would plummet. In game and out. Quite honestly it'd feel like we wasted our effort. All investment leading to failure. That could easily drive folks away. If the Storytelling weren't so inherently built upon cliffhangers and waiting for the next bit. If we got it all at once, it might not be so bad. But as it is, that'd be a risky gamble. Probably wouldn't be as bad as last week's revelations being seasonal information and not base game information though.
@nathanabel8169 really think losing would hit way harder than winning every single season. Really, if people are turned off by losing once, then are they really fans of storytelling? Failure should happen to show we aren't invincible and to show we can lose, it ups stakes, it shows how strong our enemy is, and it makes one hell of a comeback story.
@@nathanabel8169 idk I just want to feel like we're in a war and are going up against actual threats I would settle for a seraph situation where yes Xivus ritual didn't work but we still lost Rasputin and all his assets a golden age wonder lost forever until bungie inevitably revive him. Just something to nail home, we can lose
I didn't know a transmat could slam but Saladin made it work. Just a perfect encapsulation of frustration, rage, and shock. I'm in no way shocked that Sav needs to come back (tho I'm surprised it's this early), but Saladin storming into the HELM on full offense made the revelations totally worth it.
I’m so happy savathuns returning she’s one of my favorite characters. But I never thought WED be the ones bringing her back. Either way next season bout to be crazy.
Loved the story today, I'm also just happy to see some positive stuff about the game online rn. Excited for the direction the story is going for next season. Also it was nice not having the servers explode on reset.
I knew Savathun would be allowed to revive at some point this year. Her knowledge of the Witness' forces, the Darkness itself, and all we know she's done prior to her resurrection plan. It's way too much to leave her in a vault. I thought this season would be when it happens, considering The Deep is what the Hive called the Dark.
I get the feeling when savathun is resurrected she won’t remember how to go through the portal and we need to restore more memories of hers. Edit: I’m also hoping for Fynch to return.
Thank you Byf for getting these vids done within hours of the release, i like to get shit done when it launches and you help everyone out in doing that
Iron War Beasts sounds like the coolest thing ever said. I love the lord for the Iron Lords and i love when daddy forge calls me a wolf in the hunt during banner
Fun lil callback I noticed was Sloane was down to a sword, Crownsplitter, the sword that she only has because Zavala gave it back to her in that one lore tab in this season. The same sword that Xivu Sloane also held to his throat.
Did someone else notice how the ritual room is a reskin of that one in the moon where we stop crota from reviving in D1 and the same where we fight Crota's Nightmare?
I’d like to point out the lore tab from the radio message at the end of this week. In it, the witness says go Xivu Arath “They hold the worm; they will pursue her knowledge” meaning the witness and xivu know we will be attempting to resurrect svavathun. Meaning the witness knows we intend to reach them…and is waiting for us there.
Love the content as always! I am excited to see where the story takes us and how everything unfolds in the coming year. I sort of expected Savathun to have to come back at some point but the story beat feels great.
I'll point out that in the lore for the ghost of the guardian stuck in the time-trap on the Almighty, that ghost mentions specifically that if his guardian died by falling into the methane sea of Titan he did not have to wait for the body to completely disintegrate before resurrecting him, so at least by standard guardian rules holding Savathûn's body shouldn't prevent resurrection.
I wouldnt be surprised if next season isnt about resurrectiing savathûn and its actually about resurrecting oryx, sounds wild but that was her plan originally that and hiding away the traveler from the witness in her throne world, perhaps she needs oryx for something other than "he is THE oryx, the taking king"
I actually called this on my stream while back after beating Witch Queen, but it's so good to see them actually going that route. The Witch Queen returns AND CAYDE?? Lesss goooooo what a W
I am legitimately psyched for next season, I knew she would be on our side, in a way, since we had a common goal in mind and thats protecting the traveller, granted savathun probably had alterior motives but I am SOOOO fucking hyped to see more of her, I genuinely cannot wait. Assuming next season takes a more hive approach im also hyped to see what kind of weapons and armour we get and im really hoping its hive themed thats something I have wanted for sooo long
I'm so excited for next season's story now, I kinda want some group of guardians, maybe the hidden (although probably not, they seem too loyal), to revolt against the vanguard and split the tower, maybe forcing us to fight other guardians in the near future.
Anyone else get chills at that "Fight Forever" line? Has Lord Shax been under the influence of Xivu Arath this whole time? Is the Crucible an elaborate ritual empowering the Hive God of War?!?!?
I wish that we could get a TSLAYP of Byf’s reactions to the seasonal activities this season lol if the Raft videos are anything to go off of this would be hilarious
One thing I NEED for this next season is something with Savathun's worm. I'd love it if we'd be able to talk to her like in Season of Lost but if your have Parasite equipped you can get some special dialog. I just need to see that go down, please Bungie I'm begging you.
Back when I beat Witch Queen with my friend for the first time my prediction was that Savathun was going to end up on our side, everyone kept telling me it was stupid but lo and behold. I didn't exactly think this is how it would play out but I knew it would happen.
One thing I don't hear discussed often is something Fynch said in the lucent tales lore book, he says he can still hear his knight telling him what to do, this may be all in Fynch's head, however if guardians can still communicate with their Ghosts after death then resurrecting Savathun may be either alot easier or harder depending on her influence

Important note: one of the cabal who shows up in the final encounter of this mission is named Tuk'rin, who we've actually seen before in the Bump In The Night lore tab, where he got promoted to Centurion when his commander went insane on the Leviathan.
Glad I'm not the only one who caught him. Even pulled Bump out of the vault to double check.

Has an NPC ever acknowledged "guardians" plural before either? Usually it's just "the guardian" isn't it?

That is some Vinland Saga season 2 Quote right there
I mean, yeah.
Step one in Chekhov's gun: have a gun.

Definitely, I especially liked this week's veil dialogue and how Chioma Esi's VA sounded like she was literally on the verge of tears.
@@GrayvesXthe only exception is imo Osiris in LF kinda sucked in voice acting
Of all the ways for Savathun to come back, by our own hands is the last thing I would have suspected. Which I suppose is fitting for her.
By our own hands is precisely what I expected.

Zavala

Savathun: "You couldn't live with your own failure"..."and where did that bring you?"..."Back to me"
Me: Well, not at exactly...but yeah. 🤣🤣
@@salazaarfyrfang2699 Both the Witness and Xivu Arath consider the season a defeat.
Xivu isn’t concerned, the Witness is.
I'm actually most excited to see Drifter's reaction to all of this. The Drifter has been the one to watch for me, with his willingness to help this season unprompted, and his interactions with everyone have been fantastic!
it’s gonna be hilarious when Savathun reveals the only way to get through the portal requires her to revive Oryx
There is no way on any reality that anyone would agree with that
I can imagine Zavala saying, NO!
I’m pretty sure more then 50% of Destiny’s player base saw this coming. Especially with how Witch Queen ended.
It’s not hard, imagine the direction to take for the crappiest story possible and then realise it involves a Hive god coming back. Don’t finally show us the last one you’ve been teasing for years, no, bring back an old one so any work we did putting her down is undone.
We knew this would happen, Bungie knew this, all that matters is how it’s executed and how the characters are with this
I don't think people are surprised how it happened.
That's not even a theory, that's just literally what was going on.
It's because he isn't dead , can't be brought back if you never died
oryx made plans for his death and that was the touch of Malice, his living essence litterally lives on through the touch of malice and that's why his body still grows but his 'mind" is empty
i'm REALLY looking forward to the story next season, savathun is my favorite villain and character in destiny by far
"The Sisters will be reunited under the Sky." - Savathûn
The sister from that flashback is Aurash (Oryx), not Sathona (Savathun). I suspect that flashback is intentionally induced by the Witness to remind her of her love for Oryx and to further fuel her resolve to keep fighting against us.
I look forward to next Season considering:
1: according to Patrol dialogue, Ghost knew Immaru before he joined the Hive
2: Guardians can be Rez’d using only a few base components of their Guardian (we’re atomized in Crucible and respawn just fine)
3: We have both Oryx and Savathun and at least Oryx’s body is still active
Kinda wished someone would/will confront Savathun about her no longer having to decive since she cut her ties to her worm/the Witness.
Also highly suggest checking out the recent last 2 pages from the new lore book regarding the Witness & Xivu Arath
When you've been doing a particular thing for literal eons, i imagine it would be hard to stop
It would be a great attention to detail if when we revive her with parasite equipped, he comments on it.
As someone who isn't playing Season of the Deep, or Destiny at all right now because, well reasons. It's been nice seeing your story recaps for the seasons Byf. It next season perks my interest, which hopefully it does. Perhaps I'll jump back in, maybe.
honestly, season of the deep's story felt a lot like lightfall's did: it feels like an interlude
Definitely can agree, though this feels like an interlude done right. This story felt complete, and a goal set that is already causing conflict. I'm interested to see the future of the story now that we're getting clarity on things.
Totally agree, but this is exactly what the seasons are supposed to be, so I’m not against it.
Yeah it was an interlude but done properly.
A lot of the early season was indeed literally padding for time, but also brought some really cool and needed character moments.
But at least it gave actual context and reason to care about it's narrative. Something lightfall didn't feel like doing.
Yes because lightfall is not the penultimate expansion to TFS
There’s a decent chance the next season is a stall for time rather than resurrecting savathun then. Maybe preparing a way to contain her?
@@douglasdoyle5746 next season was leaked a while ago as the season of resurrection. so if those leaks are correct then we could be reviving savathun next season. my guess is ovbiously on the final week
The last lore entry for this season is also super cool for those who haven’t seen it yet. I look forward to hearing what Savathun says about Oryx being somewhat back. I feel like he has to play a part in this too
The one with Xivu’s communion with the Witness?
@@DarthDookieMan yup
This easily could of been savathuns master plan to stop the witness
Plan A: Seal the traveler and witness can never get to it but she can't fight the witness ALONE
Plan B: Guardians beat her and are actually strong enough to defeat the witness (unlikely but there is a chance)
Plan C: Guardians lost the fight vs the witness and now they will need me to help them show the way and can become a more "proper" ally, combining her forces with ours since alone she would not be able to fight the witness, but together? maybe.
"The answer is yes." - Savathûn
Seeing how one of her contingency plans has always been to leave things behind/hidden for us to eventually find and gather strenght from, i imagine you're not too far from the truth.
Appreciate your lore insight but more importantly, thank you for helping our friend Carl.
What's really scary is this could've been part of one of Savathun's contingency plans.
"It is! Good catch." - Savathûn
@@fahholliday5374Didn't that happen in Opulence?
Oh, and why I said "by believable means" was to discredit lightfall as we did fail but by bullshit reasons.
Was deep in a Diablo addiction but here’s byf to pull me back down to the Deep
I knew Savathun would be allowed to revive at some point this year. Her knowledge of the Witness' forces, the Darkness itself, and all we know she's done prior to her resurrection plan. It's way too much to leave her in a vault. I thought this season would be when it happens, considering The Deep is what the Hive called the Dark.
I get the feeling when savathun is resurrected she won’t remember how to go through the portal and we need to restore more memories of hers.
Edit: I’m also hoping for Fynch to return.
Season of the Deep...Sight.
The thing I'm looking forward to most for next season is the bit where Immaru gets a weasel error in the middle of resurrecting Savathun.
I hope our ghost has lines next season. I would just love the banter between him and Immaru
"When someone Takes something from you: Take it back." - Savathûn
I actually called this on my stream while back after beating Witch Queen, but it's so good to see them actually going that route. The Witch Queen returns AND CAYDE?? Lesss goooooo what a W
The discussion between our dear Titans… chefs kiss.
We knew this was coming. We just didn't know how.
Also, Xivu Arath hijacking the HUD was a bit unsettling, but also not surprising.
One thing I NEED for this next season is something with Savathun's worm. I'd love it if we'd be able to talk to her like in Season of Lost but if your have Parasite equipped you can get some special dialog. I just need to see that go down, please Bungie I'm begging you.
I love Savathun next to Oryx but lol yeah i saw this coming
So excited for this.....I'm looking forward to seeing how this is going to play out, really exciting story dynamic, can't wait.
I'm just happy to see eris again.
Now all i need is something new from the nine and i'm extremly happy
Back when I beat Witch Queen with my friend for the first time my prediction was that Savathun was going to end up on our side, everyone kept telling me it was stupid but lo and behold. I didn't exactly think this is how it would play out but I knew it would happen.
One thing I don't hear discussed often is something Fynch said in the lucent tales lore book, he says he can still hear his knight telling him what to do, this may be all in Fynch's head, however if guardians can still communicate with their Ghosts after death then resurrecting Savathun may be either alot easier or harder depending on her influence
I'm stunned! Poor OSIRIS!!! His Sagira is gone but Imaru is here to rez Savathun. This is very emotional for guardian leadership and I expect a great story around the portal entry.
