    I don’t know if this helps. I don’t call them fake deadlines, I call them soft dates and hard dates. The soft dates are what you term “fake deadlines”.

    I feel shocked that associates were accepting the getting-to-sleep-after-sunrise policy. The partner is terrible, but I also can not even understand the reasoning that goes into these smart people to accept this sort of abuse.

      I know it sounds nuts, but if it were me I would absolutely have thought this is "just how it is" and you have to "put in your time" and "prove you have what it takes." It's a hazing process for sure, but there's such a deep desire to prove worth and succeed and be seen as the best. And for others, it may be way more basic than that - if this is what it takes for me to get my paycheck, I guess I have to do it.

      @@AngelaVorpahl Do you think that there is a lack of awareness of boundaries and abuse in the workplace? I also wonder how much long can these big law firms keep this work environment as the younger generations value more and more the work-life balance?

      @@andrycrisiana Oh totally, I agree with CeCe that the expectations have been set by the partners with the clients that we will respond to them ASAP, and the partners pass that work (and turnaround time) onto associates. I honestly don't know what it would take for law firms to change their workflow policies, but I'm guessing it would require at least one notable law firm to take the position that they will not make their lawyers work [on weekends] [past 7pm] [etc.], and in exchange charged their clients less and paid their lawyers less, but I honestly don't know if that would happen in our lifetime, or if that's something that clients (or lawyers) would go for.

    Can you do criminal law in big law?

    • @AngelaVorpahl
      @AngelaVorpahl  8 місяців тому +2

      Criminal law in the way we traditionally think about it isn't a practice area in biglaw, but white collar criminal defense is.

      @@AngelaVorpahl I was thinking about joining white collar criminal defense. Could you do a video about that. I heard being a federal PD helps.

      @@AngelaVorpahl Also, could you do a video about the differences between state prosecutors and PDs vs. federal prosecutors and PDs.
