Zone 8b, western Washington, here. Moved into new house in late fall 2021. Among other plants put into the ground that fall was a 'gifted' Oakleaf Hydrangea. That winter was harsh and the hydrangea suffered some frost damage. That following spring the hydrangea rebounded nicely and the deer fed profusely ... another setback for the hydrangea. I put up a hardware cloth cage to discourage the deer, I have sprayed deer repellent on the hydrangea and again this year it rebounded ... and I now see three blossom spikes. I will need to move the hydrangea because it is too exposed to the elements and is getting no shade at all, but that will occur later. Appreciate all the advice in your videos.
I planted a bluebird 3 years ago, got it online during covid. It is now 5 feet tall in front of our gate between 2 fatsia japonica. Looking absolutely beautiful. Everyone passing by wants a cutting!
Great plant, great timing-I was just giving my Bluebirds some sulfur and Espoma Hollytone yesterday. I planted the two, in a line with a Lanarth white, last fall and they made it through our brutal winter. I say brutal because our Z6B cold here in SW VA comes usually without snow cover. Our daughter next door has what I believe is an old Bluebird, about 5' tall before last winter. It is coming back from the base but lost most of its old wood. Its blooms sent me trying to duplicate it, and I bought Bluebirds after failing to root some cuttings from hers.
Love these hydrangeas! Also love what I see regarding the garden in which they live. Have you done a garden tour here on your other channel? If not, can we persuade this neighbor? 😬
That reminds me, now is the time to get some softwood cuttings of my 'Bluebird' to place around the garden later.

We had one at our old house, loved it!!!!
I love this one! I am having a hard time finding it though. Is it usually hard to find?
I'm in zone 5 b so I guess I can't plant the blue bird hydrangea but it's pretty.
🌸🌳🌸ENJOYED 🌸🌳🌸
Very attractive plant! Sure wish they weren’t attractive to deer, too! 😉
