The very last rag Joplin summits to John Stark in person. He did have other Stark publications after this, such as “Felicity rag” and Kismet rag, but those where either submitted to stark years earlier (prior to 1904), or Joplin handed the old manuscripts to Stark’s office after stark left NYC in 1910 but before his nyc office closed around 1913.
The theme starting at 2:24 is almost predicting 1950s rock and roll rhythm in many ways, you can especially hear it at a faster tempo, it’s incredible. That’s just the genius of Scott Joplin!
A Fig Leaf is also heavily emblematic as it represents a whole range of various things. From a Biblical context, Adam and Eve, the first humans, as well as sinners, to walk the surface of the Earth apparently used fig leaves to cover themselves after eating the fruit of knowledge--- therefore realising that they were unclad and getting desperate to clothe themselves. This idea of covering up one's shame being metaphorical of the Fig Leaf went on to inspire several works of Greek and Roman Art. Relics and especially statues of kings displaying nudity such as the censored copy of the Statue of David by Michaelangelo display this concept. Overall, the roots behind this rag have a long list of possible inspirations that Joplin had to choose from before making this genius of a rag.
@@ParaballAyCaramba Do your research, Fig Leaf Rag was written by Scott Joplin and published by John Stark in 1908. I don't think Kevin McLoad was alive around that time. Kevin McLoad maybe made his own rendition. It's the Same as Jelly Roll Morton wrote The Crave, but after the movie "The Legend of 1900" people think Ennio Morricone made it.
Dream island? That sounds like a disease! Well no. It's a island with a 1 foot square mile long and have a 5 star hotel and blah blah blah and the best of all is the winner can choose who can go on it and don't go on it! Woah that's cool well not all the blah blah blah Well now you're definitely WELL READ AHAHA- -gets frozen-
Me hearing this in a looney cartoon themed bar and knowing a fight is going to break out but the people will be tumbling around in a dust cloud with arms and feet occasionally popping out
Yeah apparently 😂 but I'm uploading it because in my opinion Scott Joplin's music deserves the highest quality 👌🏾 Of course I can open a dispute and everything but nahh maybe later, it's not my focus 😁
I don't understand the phrase "this song is well-read". Can someone explain it to me? I mean, I can easily translate this on my language, I can't understand it's meaning
It’s a reference to a show on UA-cam called “BFDIA.” In episode 4, there is dialogue including a book and a tennis ball where the tennis ball says “you are well-read” while fig leaf rag plays in the background. Weird without context it’s better if you just see for yourself

Nice Upload, thank you!
The cadence phrase starting at 2:47, there is supposed to be an E♮ in the C⁷ chord from the original score

Hi, There’s a mistake at the end of theme C. It’s Eb - Eb - E - E and not Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb
It very based on the publisher
Did this video really get copyright claimed by someone who published a cover?
