R3x is so perfect. Hopefully vw convinces them to make it the same time as the r2. If this comes in under $45k it will sell. Give it a 300+mile range and ditch the 3rd motor to keep cost down. Not everything needs to go from 0-60 in 3 seconds. Perfect size for global sales too.

I'm not saying it won't sell well but it will not sell the same numbers as the R2. If you look at what are the best selling non pickups they are compact SUVs. The R3 is a subcompact SUV and they just don't sell as well as compact and full size SUV which is why they are waiting for the Georgia plant to be built to start producing the R3.

R3X is the most expensive version of the R3 though (because R3X is tri-motor and upgraded interior and paint) and will likely be similarly expensive to a top trim tri motor R2. People are predicting that the release order will be R2, then R3X, then R3. My guess is that they will launch R3X out of their existing Illinois factory since the volume will be lower than the R3.

@@freddybell8328 carplay is unecessary if you have TESLA software. rivian does not have all the features that tesla/carplay has like texting. Rivian navigation is also very poor

    • @kenyattaclay7666
      @kenyattaclay7666 Місяць тому +5

@@freddybell8328 Carplay is necessary because Rivian's maps suck. I'm sorry but they just do. Apple has been at this software thing for several decades and there's no need to reinvent the wheel because they are better at it.
Unlike Apple maps Rivin, which used Google maps, doesn't show traffic lights or stop signs, they don't give prompts (either voice or pings) in time enough to let you know when your turn is coming up. If you live in an area like I do that has 50 million traffic lights Apple maps specifically tells you to go through this light and turn at the next. When you can three traffic lights all with turns in 150 feet just saying turn in 100 feet means nothing.
Also, the font on Rivian's map is way too small and you cannot adjust it, the clock is on the passenger side when it should be on the drivers side. There should be better integration with smart watches. They take longer to give you traffic updates and suggestions than Apple maps and sometimes it tries to take you weird routs that are actually longer.
The mapping system on the phone app also needs a LOT of work. When you use either apple maps or google maps you can just type in the name of the location like Starbucks for example. If you try to do that on the phone it doesn't work, you have to put in a specific address which makes no sense. The other thing they need to fix when using the phone app is giving you alternate routs. If you type in an address on the phone app it only gives you one route v. at least two but most times three when using Google maps or Apple Maps.
I really do like the vehicle as a whole but their maps suck and they either need to integrate a lot of what Apple does or just give people the ability to choose what they want by allowing CarPlay.
Lastly let's not be fooled, this is about money. They want to charge for using their system and CarPlay is free. They make no money by allowing CarPlay and that's what this is all about.

I have a reservation for the R2. The charge port will be the J3400(NACS) in the US and since Rivian already has access to the Tesla network it makes sense. Hopefully it will have an adapter for CCS, otherwise I would buy one because they will be around for the next decade or two.
They put the charging port on the passenger rear for curbside charging that so many cities in Europe already use and will eventually appear in the US unless everyone suddenly moves to induction charging. The R3X will probably need a larger charging port opening to fit the CCS2 for Europe.
Since GM is building so many pull through charging spots for towing, it won’t matter where the port is soon. The Silverado/Sierra port is drivers rear.
Everyone could be like Mercedes and have both plugs in there so no adapter is needed, but that’s a pretty large opening the way they stack them

I want that R3, I think. Really though, I could take something smaller but still in the Rivian theme. I don't need fast.
Does it have a spare tire? For driving in the tall and uncut, a spare is needed.

I think lithium manganese iron phosphate will be far more viable for attainable light vehicle BEVs. While solid state will be high performance high energy requirement vehicles.

As a Focus ST owner, I'm ready for an e-hot hatch. Especially if they can make an e-Car without the stupid pricing (< or low $40k?) I thought Tesla had something coming..but, it seemed to have turned into a driverless taxi instead? Looking for small, light weight, good handling, fun e-hot hatch that I can haul a [e]-MTB and/or e-Moto on a rear hitch. Maybe even charge my e-Moto off the vehicle?? Sleep in the back, at a camp site and charge over night? >275 to 300 mile real world range. Fun, AFFORDABLE, practical.

As someone who grew up in the heyday of hot hatches, this is really attractive to me. If it drives as good as it looks -- and driving engagement matters more than performance numbers -- this is one of the few future vehicles I might open my wallet for (and I'm cheap!).

  • @ColinWatts

Rivian has perfected the EV in ways that don't get enough love. My elevator speech is that a R1T/R1S is "smoother than a Mercedes, rock crawls like a Wrangler, is faster than most new Vette's, and is cheaper to operate than a Civic".
Rivian's doing a great job with the balance of luxury/performance/price with the R2 and R3. The R3X is way more outrageous than anyone gives it credit for. You're talking 800+ HP in a form factor the size of a Dodge Omni with rally racing DNA. This is the ultimate street-legal Hoonigan machine. And I want one, badly. Unfortunately, I have kids and dogs, so the R2 will be the next vehicle to sit in my garage next to the R1T I already drive.

6:15 roll-down glass (rear hatch). My parent's 1965 Dodge Polara Wagon had this feature. The Polara had a remote electric switch on the dashboard. Of course, being an ICE, parents had to be careful when to lower the window as CO2 could enter the cabin easily - like when driving. Low pressure on the rear end just sucks it in. An idea just with the engine off(!).

2:37 1978 Dodge Omni (ASA Plymouth Horizon) sold for $3976. Adjusted for inflation, that's $20441 before federal & state tax credits. Coloradans would pay $7941 after tax credits. Just showing you how expensive cars have become today.🤦‍♂️

I really hope they get made. Rivian seems to have some imagination as a manufacturer and takes customer preferences seriously. The R3X design is really cool too, lets hope they get some good chassis engineers to make it the hot hatch it should be.
Also it's nice to have a car company with a CEO who is concerned about making cars rather than posting on twitter all day long. Sometimes these things can affect a brand.
