    Very nice to see a standard mk4 GT TDi in great condition. Too many of these have been abused or messed about with in my area now. Genuine VAG clearcoat is top quality and it really shows in your machine polishing on this car. It looks lovely inside and out. And I'm looking forward to the Beetle video.

      It's a great idea, BUT please double check with your car wash franchising. What is allowed and what is not!! Beside obvious things like being strictly forbidden oil change or for that matter, any kind of oil dump into the sewage... Things like bringing your own shampoo, soaps, etc. is also not accepted in fact is usually strictly regulated! Big fine or being banned is a real thing!
      After all it's their business, not really a surprise. A bit like bringing outside food or drinks to a restaurant. Of go to the bar/pub and bring your own drinks... So apply a bit of that rare thing called common sense! ;-)

    Excellent job! My grandmother had one of these GT TDis back in '04, as a 14yr old lad I lusted over owning one! It's amazing to see (once you got it clean again!) that that interior still looks just as smart as it did back then, and the overall design of the car has aged so well to think its over 25yrs old! Awesome, and thank you for the short trip back in time 😎

      I was thinking the same thing, I use public wash bays and where i live every single time I go there is a line up and the attendants don't let people hang around to deep clean their cars, they all have signs that say no hand washing. So it's a good idea, just not feasible everywhere.

I think the short history of each car which you provide at the start of every video (particularly the age and mileage of each car) is great as it gives good context, so thanks for including that in your videos. For some reason watching MK4 VWs getting restored and detailed it really warms my heart! I had an MK4 Volkswagen Jetta (Bora outside of the US) as my first car in high school and absolutely loved it, The sheer joy of looking at one nearly brand new is damn near tear jerking, I currently drive an MK6 Jetta 2.0 TDI and plan on getting an old MK4 Golf or Jetta as a restoration project

      @everydaydetailing6449  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Andy👍😀
      I think some newer snow foams .. may do something .. but on these trade wrecks there is no point, strong APC (or TRF) gets most of the crud off prior to a hand wash, no time/need for a 5 stage wash on a sub 5k cheap car that's been neglected

    Another great job. Just to let you know, when I used 303 all I did was spray the 303 protectant on the engine and just let it seat, no spread around with an applicator and for very difficult areas used a small sponge paint brush to apply. I have also saw a video from 303 where the showed how to clean the engine and so I did exactly the same.
    Another thing that I have done is use Meguiars Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer and does an amazing job too by applying it with a brush and this thing lasts long too for many applications saving you $ € £. One of the things I don't normally do is use an engine degreaser, all use is a mix of soap like Dwarn and water, agitate all the area with brush and spray with water hose. All it takes is about 15 minutes and I save $ or in your case € or £ from degreaser products.
    Great video and best idea on having a package for those that live in condos and only can take their vehicles to wash on a place where they have is pressured water to do the car themselves. When I was young I had a facility with pressured water but soaps for car care weren't many and you had to do the job fast because the place was packed. So one of the other options was getting early in the morning to do it when it wasn't packed of people and you could do it better. Specially because you could take advantage of the powerful vacuums they had too.
    Xoxo from Puerto Rico 🖖👋👍🇵🇷

    Great video there and great results,iv just opened a detailing company in cumbria as iv been doing it for 20+ yrs,out of interest how much would you charge for a typical car like the golf you have just done,I'm finding it hard to find the clients willing to spend the money it would cost to put their cars back to a very good standard,when they can take it to the local 'scrub n scratch' foreign car wash who will do it for £30...we all know it's not going to be done correctly at that price,but it's getting the message accros to the customers is the hard part...keep up the good work.

    • @everydaydetailing6449
      @everydaydetailing6449  4 роки тому

      Good question!
      I only work for the trade so cant comment on the retail side.
      However this job would have been usually around £125, its a traders own personal car so we had a deal 😀
      The trade knows what they can get from a hand car wash and its limitations.. a lot of my customers use them for the easier stuff.. and as we can see I get the more involved cars.
      Being able to machine polish will be your greatest asset as the local hand car wash avoid this.. to risky and time consuming for them.. remember its £120 per panel for paint (on average trade) so a machine polish to remove scratches seems a lot cheaper option

    Family member recently purchased an indigo blue MkIV GTI with 177k miles, (historied car sourced from a trade friend of mine...Price reflected poor cosmetic condition).
    I saw your vid after most of my work done. I use an old Megs G220. I had to wet sand with P2000 to reduce worst RDS prior to machine correction (dark paint not forgiving). I used megs 105 & 80... LSP Colinite 476 (faster to work with than 915). Just the bonnet took me 2 hours today, (megs burgundy pad now near dead) ! Every time I finish heavy correction on German cars I promise to future invest in a basic rotary.
    Touch up methods similar to mine for non concours daily drivers too. Door shut rubbers a pain to clean on this model golf. (Now) sticky soft plastic finish is a nightmare & time consuming.
    Need to watch your beetle vid next as one door here has been rattle can sprayed by a blind chimp...(I have prior done corners & rims with cans with ok acceptable results).
    Good to see tried & tested practical common sense approach for a high mileage daily driver.
    Q : Do you recall roughly how many hours on that detail ? (I am guessing 12-16 hours work).
    Great results & channel (liked & subscribed). Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Dale
      Stauffer Garage and Detailing geek both have good channels, I've been detailing/cleaning cars for over 20 years ;)
      Having started UA-cam the main problem I've had is people asking about products, and being trade based we have chemicals that are not labeled/produced for the main stream public.
      So it's a learning curve for me trying new products to recommend that are as good or better, plus being a honest guy I want to try these products for a number of weeks/cars to make sure if I recommend something I know it will do the job to a good standard, I'm not just after making a buck of a Amazon link!
      I must confess it's a bit like xmas at the moment with parcels turning up with all these new products to try :) .. My attitude if they work well on the wrecks I clean, they should be good for the viewers at home :)

  • @iDropPhats
    @iDropPhats 4 роки тому

    You’d be surprised at just how “all-purpose” a good all purpose cleaner really is. If it came down to it and you had no buckets, no soap, just some apc, micro fibers, and a hose, you could do nearly an entire wash with the stuff. It wouldn’t be as safe, but it would be effective. As for the interior, apc will solve nearly all of your problems and if you don’t have a dedicated window cleaner, water and a microfiber will do a fantastic job. Most people think detailing involves putting a lot of money into fancy tools and learning specific skills but at its core, it’s really simple and you can work wonders on a tight budget, it’s all about the process you employ and using what you have to the maximum effectiveness.

      Just be cautious with the A.P.C .. always better to go a bit to weak/diluted and work you way up with leather.. having said that the sides and back are usually vinyl.. and black is a much safer colour to clean 😀👍 Also apply a leather feed/conditioner after wards, quite a few brands.. I have no specific one.

    My local car wash doesn't allow people to use cleaning tools. They think that using their "active foam" and rinsing it with high pressure water is enough to clean a car -.-
    When I pulled out a microfiber towel to remove some bugs in the front end the owner scold me annoyed.
    Some people don't want customers!

    Great videos. It would be really helpful to me and maybe others if you could say what ratios of Surfex you are using on all the different applications. Engine bay, bodywork and interior etc… I love the product and it’s versatility but never sure on the safe dilution.

    99% of self wash places have a big queue and you need to finish in 5-10 mins tops, probably at 2-3 AM you can really take your time and bring tools and such.

    Can I ask you you would go about cleaning thick human grease and grime from the plastics on one of these Mk4 golfs.
    It’s so thick I thought the paint was coming off in the interior.
    Please help as it’s the only thing that’s letting the car down.
    Great video and very relaxing oddly to watch. Thanks.

      Hi lee
      these do suffer from "soft plastic failure" they had this semi rubber coating on the plastic's and its prone to go sticky and peel off .. it could be that.

    The engine bay dressing you mention with just soaking the engine bay when it's wet and let it evaporate, this can be done with 303. That's what I do to my cars

    1 litre bottle of wheel cleaner, (bh autowheels) apc, degreaser. Gamma deal lid/bucket of onr. Various brushes and a big red, with drying towels for after. I live in a flat so this is my way at petrol station.

  • @paulhamilton6013
    @paulhamilton6013 4 роки тому

    Try ONR as a clay lube, much more cost effective. If you like 303 you will also like hyper dressing, use it at 1:4 for interior plastics same for engines.

    Ever had a look at that the 'Nathan Flannel Rotary Seat Cleaning Method'?
    It uses a rotary, a big wool pad and a foaming cleaner (+APC) to clean the seats. Definitely save you a lot of time and results are almost always amazing. However, you only clean the top layer of the seat, and not the cushioning material.
    I'm not quite sure how to think of that quite yet. What's your thought about that? If there's away to make it work on carpets, that would be king, since there's not a lot of material underneath that. But sadly I don't have the means yet to test that.

    • @everydaydetailing6449
      @everydaydetailing6449  4 роки тому

      Not heard about that, but to be honest there is usually so much filth deep in the seats of the cars I clean, it's probably for the best they get a good deep clean :)
