- September, 6, 2021: Our 2nd day fishing Lake Mendota was pretty rough, until this happened.
On our second day at Lake Mendota, Wisconsin, we decided to launch from a different ramp and explore some deeper portions of the lake.
Conditions were rough, and we struggled to find active fish, but little did Christina and I know we were in for a HUGE surprise later that evening...

Mendota definitely has a learning curve to overcome! I didn’t start catching fish till I downsized my baits a bunch. My first day there I told Jerry if I was born on the banks of that place I’d drive 300 miles to fish something else😁. We got er figured out though! That would have been a great trip if I never caught a fish there. Great bunch of folks there, and getting to meet the guys with the Jon Boat Mafia was a blast too!
Troy from Jon Boat Mafia was who helped us figure out our baits were too big. We downsized them on day 3 and the fight was on. Day 3 video, which comes out tomorrow, is on fire.

Its the zebra mussels making the lake so clear. They are getting worse every year. That time of the year May the north part of the lake is the best fishing. A lot of the cats have been in Cherokee Marsh eating panfish as they go onto the shallow and warm water.
Now that it isn't so warm out I may start fishing the weeds with bobbers on friday and saturday nights from shore. It was just way too hot lately for me.
That was definitely the clearest fresh water we'd ever been out on. We went back up to the north part of the lake on Day 3 and started using smaller chunks of bait. Down here, if you want a big channel cat you use big baits.. It was crazy how they won't touch them up there. Our video from Day 3 goes up tonight at 6:30 central. Lots of nice cats in it.
