This is my best, best friend in the world Shamek Farrah. I was there when he created this album, I wrote the poem on the back and my good friend Jerry Harris did the album cover. Shamek is still with us and peace and blessings be upon him.
Amazing. I named my you tube identity after the Milton Suggs the bassist years back when it was possible to choose your account name. Do you know anything about his inspiration for this track? It's quite unique and unlike anything else he's done to my knowledge. What was the atmosphere like during the recording? I hope you don't mind all these questions, peace
SHAMEK FARRAH (a sax), Norman Person (tp), Sonelius Smith (p), Milton Suggs (b), Ron Warwell (d), Calvert Satterwhite (conga) and Kenny Harper (perc) in 1974.
One of the best independent, musician run & operated label. INDEPENDENT, through and through. NO BOZO A&R MEN ALLOWED. So many legit gems. Clifford Jordan's 'Glass Bead Games' (I used to have 3 original pressings, lol. They were inexpensive in the mid nineties. I had one sealed flat cover, 😊one NM Glossy Gatefold with the promotional inserts (paid $70 because the lamination wasn'talways perfect. This one was. A NM flat gatefold that I eventually hooked my brother up with. 'In the World' was an easy $20 piece to find. Prince Lasha's 'Inside Story' on US enja was also a super easy $10 & under rec to find. I was bummed when my SEALED HEATH BROTHERS turned out to not be perfectly flat, with a lil bit of surface noise. I'll stop, cuz I'm not trying to brag, I'm just in awe that these private sessions are FINALLY GETTING THE DUE JUSTICE THEY RIGHTFULLY DESERVE. NOTE TO PURE PLEASURE: " PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, CONTINUE TO PRESS STRATA EAST'S UNTIL THEY NO LONGER SELL OUT!!! IT WOULD BE DISERVICE TO THE MUSICIANS WHO FOUNDED & RAN THIS LABEL. SOME OF THE BEST JAZZ EVER. ALL OF YOUR OBSCURE SPIRITUAL MODAL JAZZ PICKS ARE TRMENDOUS! I pray SAVOY allows a proper company to do the Yusef '57 sessions. Also hope.JAZZMAN TO CONTINUE TO KEEP PRESSING THE RENDELLS!!!! They should never, ever be out of print. THEY SHOULD DO JOE HARRIOTT'S 'HUM DONO' AT ABBEY & PALLAS TOO!!! For f**ks sake. His entire catalog & Amancio D'Silva's 'Integration'. There are so many UK Lansdowne's. PAT BRITT's ~ 'JAZZ FROM San Francisco' in Stereo would sound stellar if the tapes survived. That LP is ssmoking!!! Just as good as Hank Bagby's Quintet Los Angeles LP on Protone. Hopefully someone will have enough sense to REISSUE BEFORE the Angelic ET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED & make the Cabal's fake one look silly. Good Luck & God Bless everyone. Hope you're paying attention. Although we happen to be living in humanity's darkest period ever, we're blessed to play our part, whatever it may be & BARE WITNESS. I shudder when I think of the potential that isn't realized. In this instance I am speaking about this music specifically but the comment can easily be applied to all phases of life because it is a universal principle. Be it exposure, financial, political or for whatever reason our society is adversely affected. I have never even heard of these individuals or this recording and if I hadn't been listening to Walter Bishop Jr., another recent discovery, I would have missed this recording.
Never forget hearing this track played in a club for the first time. A perfect record for me, there is something about the last section (from around 7mins in) where it reaches heights I can't get my head around. Music as a healing force. Thank you Shamek Farrah and of course Strata East for putting it out.
This music truelly take you to spirtitual places and i love it. However i can't find any of his other albums tha comes close to this. Can someone please prove me wrong :)
A love Supreme, Crescent, Thembi, Jewels of thought, Sumyun Bukmun Kumyun, Regeneration, In the Land of the blacks, Capra Black, World Galaxy, etc. I have a few feet of spiritual classics but you can google the rest.
While typing this i have it on mute .. I'll explain: I was at an indoor garage sale two days ago and found this album..in a bin .. in the back of the bin. Not only did I find this album (Strata-East - SES-7412 1974) but along with it were two other very valuable and rare Strata East albums, but I didn't know that at the time....in the back of the bin. 1$ paid for each and all in relatively mint condition. So my reason; I want to hear it first on the medium that is in my opinion best, I'll come back I'm sure to listen. Just wanted to share my story

Glad to know Mr. Farrah is still with us. I’d love to speak with him. This is my father on bass.
Good to hear he's still around. Hope he's staying safe at this time.

This is the kind of music that puts both your mind and spirit at ease.
At ease ....and wilderness as well! :)
Once listened to this on a huge system (11.5k watts), filled a hall with that hypnotic rhythm section. Pure bliss. What a label strata east was!

The single greatest bargain I ever found in my crate digging years of the early 90's. 25 cents. Yep. An incredible piece, this album!
Cost me $34.00. --LOL!
I can remember transcribing part of this back in the day. At least 20 years ago. I think I'll give it another go. Try and work out the whole thing.
Lovely track. Deep Modal vibe.
