There's a reason Evan is my favorite bodybuilder. This seminar is a prime example why. Extremely knowledgeable, relaxed, and willing to help many. Surreal physique. Just all around a humble, great guy. Definitely my top role model.
It sucks he's not with Animal-Universal anymore but still love him and his personal touch to Bodybuilding....He'll be killing it very soon at the Mr. Olympia...
Evan hit it right on the head with the Clean Eating vs. IIFYM argument. We're a society that loves clear-cut numerical black and white answers and iifym takes the guess work out- hit your numbers and you'll be fine. unfortunately, numbers don't always tell the whole story and part of bodybuilding is to build the body both on the inside and out.
I have found success with a modest approach. I believe people who deprive themselves of certain foods are bordering on an eating disorder. I tend to eat 3/4 of my calories from nutrient dense low fat meats veggies and fruits. The rest of my diet is whatever I feel like that day, Oreos, brownies, or ice cream. At end of the day it's personal preference and unless you are stepping on stage to compete there is no need to be so anal about everything. Consistency has and always will be #1 factor.
The view Evan takes on diet is the view I take. Iifym isn't supposed to be based on anti-nutrient foods, so I think it has got a bad rap in that sense. But saying a calorie is a calorie or a protein is a protein or a carb is a carb is neglecting the hormonal response of the macro nutrients. People cannot dispute the extensive research that has been done on carbs relating to insulin levels I.e mono-shaccarides will cause a larger spike in insulin than oligo-saccharides. The effect of insulin being to reduce sugar in the blood so it is very effective at forcing glucose to the muscle to be stored as glycogen. However in this situation your body is in "uptake mode" and will not be breaking down triglycerides. And from a diet / fat loss stand point that is not what you want. Why would you neglect such an important fact when setting up a diet. On the subject of protein simply put complete protein > incomplete protein. Another aspect neglected by the diet. I am not saying you cannot get results from iifym as opposed to no diet however iifym < "bro diet". My views in simple terms.
Why does no one ever ask guys of this size about sleep? Meaning, Arnold mentioned getting 6 hours of sleep at night, yet growth hormone is released while we sleep. So, how much sleep is optimal? Also, being the size these guys are, do they have sleep apnea? I just watched an Eddie Hall documentary, he needs to wear a breathing mask every night just to get a good night's rest. The body struggles with more weight, whether its muscle or fat. So, Evan, would you please answer how much sleep you think is optimal as well as whether reaching the size you are, do you need assistance every night to sleep right? Thanks and much respect!
Evans philosophy is pretty much exactly like mine, however I gotta disagree that training each muscle once a week is most optimal unless your juicing. For naturals hitting the muscle more frequently will work best since protein synthesis only lasts about 48 hours after hitting the muscle. Great seminar none the less, hope there is more in the future.
obviously, if you switch from hitting one body part a week to hitting it 2-3 times a week, it would be hard to recover from that & you would most likely burn out/overtrain. however, the body will adapt & sooner or later you would be able to train @ a higher frequency while still recovering 100%. right now i am doing a mix of upper/lower + full body workouts hitting each muscle 3x a week & i have never seen gains this optimal in my 5 years of training. in a month i am hitting each muscle 12x where if i were doing a split i would only be hitting each muscle 4x a week. over the course of the year, the person working @ a higher frequency will be the one adding more muscle
I wish so bad that someone would offer me to help compete., I would love to be a competitive athlete I give everything for the sport because I love it but I don’t know anybody literally
