We used to time our trips to our island 5 miles south of there back in the 1960's with the low tide. We would land on the tidal floor at Compass, taxi up on the beach, and take our small boat down to Dennis Cay, an island Dad bought in 1962. It sit's just west of Sampson Cay with a small home on the southern water's edge. It was all so beautiful and pristine back then. Sadly, with the introduction of drug running in the 80's and the sale of lots on Staniel Cay...it is ruined forever...it was once paradise!
Beautiful video. I gotta get to Compass Key and meet Tucker. I love that guy! Thanks for introducing him. I'm not one for swimming/snorkeling in anchorages, but that might be the exception. Can't believe how many Bonefish were right there.
Thanks for posting, enjoyed your video. I agree with you about the shallow water down there being beautiful. I've never actually been on the ground there but have flown over the Bahamas many times and there is nothing better than clear, warm shallow water and no one has more of that than the Bahamas.
Dreamlike pictures from a true paradise ! The Compass Cay-marina is a stunnung place thaks to the ecological awareness of the owner. Good luck to both of you and may you always have some inces of water under your keel ! PS: I love your boat !
Loved the footage (do you still call it that in these digital days?) of the conch munching away. Pretty cool that they keep the marina "green" and no fishing inside. Can't wait to find out your next chapter.
I was wondering how you would have approached this passage with a deep v, deeper keel boat, like say a boat with a fixed 2 meter keel. Do you do anything differently ?
Beautifully done video, and an amazing area.. However if you could do a "How to" Video on how to get the money to do all this stuff that would be most helpful...:-D
Absolutely great video, very pleasant and informative but your title is so misleading. I only played it because it came on automatically after my last video, otherwise your title had me disinterested...my opinion.
Haha! On 6:34 you mention how clean the water is while filming trash in the water. Intentionally i hope? Keep up the good work! I enjoy the video's very much. Cheers!
I noticed the same thing, lol. Great video guys but it was funny that the only shot that had some scraps of electrical tape floating in the water was the shot you mentioned there was no trash in the area. No sweat guys, just kind of funny.
Should tell that guy if he really wants to protect the corals in the marina that he should stop feeding the fish bread. Terrible for the corals. Otherwise, beautiful marina and friendly people! Cant wait to go next month :)
Cruising Tip: Wearing shirts with your name and boat name on them is very common amongst cruising sailors since it's helpful to others for remembering names and putting names to boats when you're meeting new people at Cruisers' Happy Hours and Dock Parties. They are like name tags which are helpful when everyone is meeting new people all the time.
sharks are unlikly to attack you what dont people get that sharks are perfectly fine they only attack if you annoy them ormake a giant splash eor think your a seal
Contrary to what you said in the video, I would not describe a draft of 2' 10" as "shallow draft". That's close...but not quite there. IMHO less than 2' is fairly described as shallow draft, and even then, closer to 1 foot or less is more like it. I also wonder how well the boat can sail upwind (no motor) while the centerboard/keel is lifted up to 2' 10". I have a feeling it's the monohull sailors who are prone to describe "shallow draft" that way because they are accustomed to having keels.
Whoa "1' or less" is shallow draft??? I have never seen a cat over 40 foot with that kind of draft... You're right that our Southerlies sail poorly upwind when the keel is raised up. But they will sail upwind when its down a bit - say 5' or so.
If you meant "shallow draft"-for a 40 ft sailboat, you didn't say so. My reply referred explicitly to use of the term "shallow draft". A 400 ft sailing ship with a draft of 15 feet might be considered shallow draft compared to other 400 ft sailing ships, but it is not shallow draft compared to a 14' jon boat with a drought of 4-6". Clearly, the term "shallow draft" is not defined by specific units of measurement, so you are free to describe a draft of 10 feet as shallow draft if you wish. However, in my view the Wharram Tiki 38 catamaran with a draft of 2 feet is fairly described as "shallow draft". Where I live (in the Florida Keys) most of the sea within a half mile from shore is 2 feet or less with much of it 1 foot at low tide. My 30 foot blue water cruising catamaran can navigate those shallow waters because it has a 1.2 foot "shallow draft". Nonetheless, I sometimes see monohull sailors describing their 3 to 4 foot draft as "shallow draft".
Excellent video. Beats anything on TV.
You guys are awesome. Thank you for broadcasting my Bahama islands so beautifully.
Thanks! We totally LOVE your Bahama Islands Valentino 💕
Great shots of the browsing conch.
One day I will buy my sail boat. seeing the benefits of a shallow draft gives me a lot to think about. thank you 😊
My new favorite sailing episode 💚💙👌👌
Hey thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, OutDoorzFam!
All your content, next level, we’ll presented, we’ll spoken, just great stuff 💚💙
2 feet 10 inches draft for 42 feet sailboat.... superbly perfect for Bahamas... great clip.

Very well done videos and magnificent edition ....
More, More. This is just what I've been looking for. We are still deciding on a bigger 40 plus boat. Another one to consider.Cheers!
Thanks Ian :-) Glad to help!
I know I am late on this, but this is the best you have done. Thank you
You're very welcome Alexander!

The aerial view is AMAZING - I understand the Astronauts agree Bahamas are tops!
Thumbs up #600. Really liked this clip and I am sure to visit Compass Key when I get in the area.
Keep up the good clips.
Cheers from Magnus in Sweden
Thanks Magnus! 😊 See you out there!

Always wonder how you manage uploading your videos with the spotty internet.
what was the month when you travel to bahama for this video?
Great vid ya'll, wonderful videography, are you too doing alright?
Seeking captain opportunities so I can quite my government job. What your doing is a dream of mine...someday!!
Absolutely great video, very pleasant and informative but your title is so misleading. I only played it because it came on automatically after my last video, otherwise your title had me disinterested...my opinion.

Keep up the good work! I enjoy the video's very much. Cheers!
It really is very clean, at least compared to any other marina I've ever seen :-) Glad you're enjoying the videos!
I noticed the same thing, lol. Great video guys but it was funny that the only shot that had some scraps of electrical tape floating in the water was the shot you mentioned there was no trash in the area. No sweat guys, just kind of funny.
It was a piece of seaweed...
You mean the dead piece if sea grass? Seems legit.
Looked like a piece of old sea grass to me, same type the conch was eating algae off in the next shot.
10:20 are you have double flok ?
Should tell that guy if he really wants to protect the corals in the marina that he should stop feeding the fish bread. Terrible for the corals. Otherwise, beautiful marina and friendly people! Cant wait to go next month :)
Who owns these islands?
When sailing, how do you do laundry?
Mostly we find a laundromat but often do it in a bucket :-)
Thanks, I was curious.
Nice video I will check it out ☀️😎🤙🏿⛵🌊🌬️🌍🌎🌏
Hope you like it!
Why do two people sailing need uniforms with their names?
Maybe they are forgetful

I think that was in a James Bond movie
Thunderball
They were not that friendly when we were there. they would not let us leave anything from are boat!
Ragged Island have been inhabited for hundreds of years by my family.
We enjoyed Ragged and the Jumentos and are looking forward to visiting again!

Mel Ellington This is a sailing video , and mono hull sailors consider anything under 4’ shallow draft.
Mel Ellington Everything is relative, so why did you bring up the subject ?
5:00 in the green
Why would anyone want anything other than a swinging keel!? I’m gonna sell my house.....
😊
Lol say earthquake. Highly unlikely.
Pirates of the Caribbean was/is a real thing... jus sayin..
