Fantastic. I used to be quite the whizz at DX programming (1989-90!) although I never paid much attention to this song. But recently I heard it and I've been using a lot more FM in my music and fell in love with these sounds. I tore my hair out trying to get the sound, and I got pretty close but I just don't have the time to relearn the ins and outs of six op FM. I wanted something with this clear DX7 feel and obvious ability to fit in well with guitar. These are brilliant, I've just downloaded your patches and playing them in De-X-ed, they are almost exactly what I want and with a small tweak here and there, they are fitting perfectly in the song I wanted to use them in. To be honest, the sounds would work perfectly well as they come but I'm too proud to use someone else's exact sounds without a few tweaks. Saying that, credit where credit is due, I kept going down dead ends with my attempts to replicate something like this, with just the right level of buzz, bass and hollowness. I've been studying how you made them and I'm impressed. Thanks again.
thanks. I always tweak them myself. Because they're always meant to fit a specific context. That's the wonderful thing about FM. You can take it in so many different directions. Appreciate the thoughtful comments. :-)
rickOshay if you want to take care of the marketing side of things. I can do loops. Don’t think I could do both. Music never made me a millionaire. But you never know.
Hi! Would you be willing to share the Logic project you have set up here? Or maybe channel strip settings? I downloaded some .syx files for Dexed I found from your dropbox but I'm not getting anywhere close to how it sounds here.
I no longer have this project. Moved onto newer versions of the sounds and effects used. But my current setup wouldn’t be any good to you as it’s designed for me and my second keyboard player. I go through it in one of my more recent videos. Instead, I do custom setups for different keyboard players but not as a freebee. When you’re ready, email me your requirements. For how many keyboards (one or two manuals), do you want effects on channels, do you need any custom mapping and custom controls. We can discuss all of it and set you up with something more practical and easy to use. ~Hedge
Thx, take it you found my DX1 banks with all the DX Crash variants? Bank 2 has them all. Add slapback delay, and some 80s short plate reverb. EQ. Should be right on the money.

Anything Depeche would have to be pre 1983 as hunting for samples isn’t my thing. Lots of their multitrack stems floating around. Nothing that calls for reverse-engineering. Great track though.
