As a german I can say this is one of the best "german accents" in a movie I have ever seen. Really good performance by Taika

Before I boarded my flight from LA to Brisbane in 2014, I'd not even heard of What We Do In The Shadows. It was the second movie I watched on the flight, post-meal, so quite a few people around me had taken the wise decision to sleep. This proved a problem, as I laughed so much I had to stifle it with a pillow.
Calling the International Vampire community of the world, please come to Vellington. Ve think it's Fangtastic!

Because thereason they are invisible in mirrors is the backing commonly used in mirrors (Silver). Digital film doesn't have that problem, but old ways of capturing photographs do!
