BoA (just like a boa) - the absolute Queen. She debuted at *thirteen* (she was like 2 months off her 14th birthday - international age) under SM and she's still there and is a director in the company. She's a soloist that was born in 1986 - but she debuted so young that she's a sunbae to everyone of her same age. She's also an undisputed amazing dancer.

BoA is the ultimate Idol of Idols. BoA's talents are unmatched. This is why SM Entertainment selected her to become a trainee when she was 11 or 12 and why she debuted when she was only 13 years old, because she is so amazing. BoA is one of the originals in the Kpop industry and one of the first to do almost everything, and she did it all as a solo artist without the help or support of a group. Can you believe that BoA debuted in 2000? -- which means she has been in the industry for more than 20 years now and she is only 34 years old. :D She was one of the youngest artists in the industry when she debuted and she is now one of SM's longest held artists. She started under SM and is still represented by SM. So she has been in the industry for more than two decades, and, yet, she is still younger than a lot of artists who have come after her. That's how much of a legend she is. :D
It is no surprise that you are impressed by BoA's vocals and dancing because, as an SM artist, that is just something the company is known for. That's just a fact about the type of people that SM selects to be a part of its company. SM has become known for its amazing vocalists and dancers and that is one reason why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world.
If you follow SM Entertainment groups, you soon will discover that even all of SM's rappers were chosen to become trainees for their vocal and/or dancing skills. All of SM's rappers learned to rap, or at least became good at it, after they joined the company -- none of them were selected for their rapping. The company is known for cultivating some of the industry's best vocalists and they put a huge emphasis on vocal training and dancing.
BoA is one of the best female dancers in the industry and everyone looks up to her. She is known for her unique and difficult choreography and the fact that she is not afraid to try something new. BoA is an OG of OGs
. There is almost nothing she can't do. Everyone regards her as more than just an Idol, she is so well respected that she is a mentor to most Idols in the industry.
BoA was the one who paved the way for Kpop artist in the Japanese market and she is the reason why Kpop groups and artists now produce songs in Japanese.She was one of the very first Korean Idols to focus on learning Japanese with the goal of bringing the Kpop industry to Japan. She is now one of the top selling artist in Japan.
She was even one of the first Kpop stars to release an English album in America. Her English song "Eat You Up" was pretty popular and even made it on the American music charts. She was one of the first Kpop artists to chart in the U.S. -- the song actually was played on some mainstream U.S. radio stations. If you haven't already, I recommend checking out her MV for "Eat You Up" it's pretty epic and her dancing is so iconic.
Fun fact: If you remember, in Taemin's song "Idea" the female voice you hear saying, "Killing me softly" is BoA.

Key from SHINee is such a fanboy of hers. LOL You should really watch an episodes of the variety show "Happy Together" (Ep. 569 with English Subs) which featured all of SM artists such as BoA, Key from SHINee, Baekhyun and Sehun from EXO, Jaehyun and Taeyong from NCT, Comedian Lee Soo Geun and MC Jeon Hyun Moo. The episode was filmed at SM Entertainment and it talks about the history of SM and all of SM's top artists, etc. It was a great episode.

Wow, the dancing was fantastic in this video. I agree with Jeremiah, the lift was fabulous! As an ex-dancer that is a difficult lift and she and the people lifting her pulled it of perfectly, especially standing in water. Also the camera angle was perfect to pull off the "levitating" illusion. ;)
BoA (pronounced like the scarfy thing) is the first international Kpop star and has been the Queen of Kpop for 20+ years. She opened the door to Japan and other east Asian countries. Everybody loves BoA.

She is the 1st Korean superstar. She has 10 Korean albums, 9 Japanese albums, 2 Korean mini albums and 1 English album (her American debut).
She was a judge on K-pop star (season 1 and 2), coach on The Voice of Korea (2020), MC on Produce 101 (season 2).

Yassss BoA!!!! *correction* QUEEN BoA ^__^ She introduced me to kpop here in America a little over 15 years ago! MTV debut her music when they used to play music videos like all night and early in the morning as I was getting ready for school and I was mesmerized! From there I never looked back. I'm 30 and still love kpop just as much thanks to this Queen! Glad to see shes still killing it. You guys should check out her song Camo and then start from the beginning in order of everything so you guys can see her age and music progression. I get so nostalgic in the best way possible. ^_^

Everybody forgetting the fact that BoA is fluent in Japanese (cos everyone else is asking to react to her other korean releases) and that she has released songs in Japan as well. BoA Kwon bridged the way for Korea to hit it in the Japanese market which was done with "no. 1" and after that it's history. SM was looking for someone to be the best singer for Asia, to make it in the Japanese market and other markets ( including the US) back in the day and her brother I believe had her audition. That girl carried SM entertainment on her back for a long time, now shes a part owner. She deserves it man. God Ive loved her since 2000. She was a huge part of my childhood growing up in New York and new jersey.

She did an English album Once Upon a Time. "I did it for Love" was one of her title tracks. Which kind of blew me away the first time I saw it. Girl definitely is not your garden-variety K-Pop artist here. :)

For the meaning of Better, in a behind the scenes video, she said something about telling boys/men(?) to not be shy; to do better to grab her attention. But because she talked so much about improving herself and her music for her 20th anniversary, I had mistakenly thought it was about being a better self.

But to call BoA an idol would be a supreme insult. Girl literally was the first Korean artist to break the notoriously difficult Japanese market.
