I'm surprised you didn't mention some outstanding features, like a true 60x80 queen bed. Most trailers in this size category tend to have an RV queen bed, which is 60x74.
Very cool. Thx for the video. My only hangup with it is no freezer. I would forgo the microwave for it. When we are camping off grid for a week or two at a time having our meat frozen is huge.
I think in another video there is a very smallllll freezer in the fridge at the top. But it would be nice to have a separate one that you know will keeps your meats Ice cold.
Thanks for posting this video -- very informative! I have had two Cruiser trailers during the past 16 years, and I am very interested in the new Hitch product line. I'm hoping that next year they come out with a super small version, like the Fun Finder X-139 model by Cruiser. There is a lot of demand for those, and no manufacturer is currently filling that niche.
We're looking at this model now versus a couple that are lighter. We have a 2011 Toyota Highlander V6 with the towing package for 5,000 lb towing capability. Your thoughts? We love the layout, the 15" tires and the higher bottom clearance. I'm sure I'd want good load-leveling on the hitch assembly which of course adds weight...
You should have more than enough tow capacity for something the size of this Hitch 16RD. It only weighs 3,586 lbs dry, leaving plenty of room for cargo and for you to be well under your limit!
Thanks for the input Joyce! This particular RV doesn’t have a huge amount of interior storage, but we have it well documented in the photo gallery here: www.southernrv.com/New-Inventory-2021-Cruiser-RV-Trailer-Hitch-16RD-Cruiser-RV-Hitch-southernrv-10211623?ref=list
If it was true off road it would be equipment with a 12v compression fridge & more batteries with more solar.. And the right amount of solar & batteries can operate a soft start air condition
Hi Luc Don, thanks for watching! The refrigerator in the Hitch is a 12V fridge! The solar array is not currently capable of powering the A/C but could potentially be upgraded to do so. The problem with having a battery bank and panel system capable of running everything (including A/C) is that the battery bank and panels start to eat into your cargo carrying capacity on this small of a single axle trailer. So it can be done, but many folks would choose to carry water and gear over A/C. So it's all in what you are trying to accomplish!
Hi Joe, the receiver hitch is optional! We have two in stock at the moment and the one we reviewed in the video wasn't optioned with the receiver hitch. Here is a link to the model with the receiver hitch: www.southernrv.com/New-Inventory-2021-Cruiser-RV-Trailer-Hitch-16RD-Cruiser-RV-Hitch-southernrv-10188192?ref=list
Generally speaking, the modern Tacoma's should be fine with this RV so long as they have the factory tow package and the 3.5L V6. This RV has a GVWR (fully loaded weight) of 4,884 lbs and the modern Tacoma with the full tow package has a towing capacity of 6,800 lbs. But that said, if your Tacoma is older there are several factors that affect it's total tow capacity. Our best advice is to verify the towing capacity of your specific truck (either based on it's specifications, or by visiting a dealer and having them confirm it for you). If you happen to have the 4 cylinder with the SR or SR5 trim package you may not have the proper tow capacity to safely tow this RV.
The dinette in the rear of the coach converts into a bed that is as long as the queen bed up front but slightly narrower. You could sleep two adults' on it, but it might feel a bit cramped depending on the size of the adults.
@@Southern_RV thank you. I you mentioned it’s more capable, but didn’t mention if it has increased clearance. Does it have larger than average tires ie 15s or could you upgrade? Thanks again nice unit
It does indeed have increased ground clearance thanks to a flipped axle. The wheels are 15in and the tires are a little larger than on standard trailers. Upgrading the tire size would depend on what would fit under the fenders, the current size is ST235/75R15 and is more than capable for the type of overlanding the trailer is designed for.
Hi Shane, thanks for watching! We currently have two 2022 models in stock at a sale price of $29,979 Here's the link: www.southernrv.com/default.asp?page=xAllInventory&pg=1&sortby=Inventory%7Cdesc&customSearch=16rd

It's just a standard microwave.... a convection would be a great suggestion for the manufacturer to offer as an option though! Especially given the lack of an oven.
Hi Bobby! This RV does have Azdel composit walls, we must have forgotten to mention it in the video! Concerning the control panel, it is low so a little ones hands could potentially flip switches. We could see this being easily remedied with a small cabinet door though.
Off Road Over Land? Really? Just because a company slaps on mountain stickers, a couple of off-road tires and drives through a mud puddle does not make it capable for off-road travel. Where is the fully articulating hitch? Does it have independent shock absorbers? How is this constructed any different than any other run of the mill trailer? Does it have an extended warranty to back up the claims of off-road durability? If this rig is truly an off-road , overland vehicle, you didn't make a case for it. At face value, all we see here are marketing gimmicks.
Hi Terrance, Thanks for watching! We appreciate the criticism as we do not personally manufacture these trailers, we're just presenting it for you to make a decision about whether its right for you or not. As far as it being an "overland trailer" it does fall into that segment of RV's being advertised as such these days by the major manufacturers. Let's face the truth here, "overlanding" is not rock crawling or true off-roading. Overlanding is based on adventure travel with a focus on self reliance, resilience and the enjoyment of the journey. This trailer is absolutely built with that in mind. Most folks (especially here in the south) are simply going to an off-grid site up an old forest service road, out west it's relatively tame travel on BLM land. The journey can be as easy or as difficult as you choose to make it. As far as warranty is concerned, the reality is that no company is going to warrant stupidity. Jeep sells a Rubicon but if you sink it in a mud hole and flood the engine that's not warrantable by Jeep. Use your equipment within it's own reasonable means. This RV is not built to do the Rubicon Trail, but it is well suited for tamer adventures. So to wrap it up, the Hitch rides on a torsion axle and is lifted on all terrain tires to give it better approach and departure angles than most small RV's in this segment. It's exterior amenities are thoughtfully placed for more rugged travel. The materials (like Azdel walls and Woven PVC floors) were chosen with ease of cleaning and durability in mind. And the Solar system on board allows for powering up the camper in an off-grid scenario. It's also worth noting that the more heavily equipped campers (like say the Black Series, witch does have independent suspension, but no articulating hitch) is more than double the price of this RV. It may not meet your definition of an adventure RV, but it works for most of the weekend warriors we talk to!
The Hitch 16RDfeatured in this video had a factory MSRP of $26,057 and we sold it for $22,979. We have not seen replacement inventory from the manufacturer since it sold and we expect any incoming inventory to be more expensive due to covid economic influences.
Thanks for watching Tarea, while there is not currently a sister company in Europe we can arrange for shipping from America to just about anywhere! It's not cheap, but if you really want a specific model we can make it happen.
Thanks for watching Life Is Good, these little trailers are all about give and take! That bed allowed for a larger bathroom in this footprint, what works for someone else may not work for you 😊
Hi LetsGoChamp, thanks for watching! The mattress in the Hitch measures 60" x 80" which is a standard queen. There definitely are some mattresses out there that are a few inches shorter and called a queen, but we the dealers don't actually name any of these... the manufacturers do!
Thanks for watching Eidolus! Let's have some real talk... this camper ain't designed for rock crawling. BUT, it does have more clearance and better approach and departure angles than others in its class. Also, the manufacturer was smart about the placement of that sewer pipe. It's more tucked than the camera gives it credit for, and being forward of the axle allows for the max departure angle and better up hill transitions.
I'm surprised you didn't mention some outstanding features, like a true 60x80 queen bed. Most trailers in this size category tend to have an RV queen bed, which is 60x74.

We agree! They should switch to a 12V fridge with a freezer box. It would take up a little more space, but it would be worth it!
I think in another video there is a very smallllll freezer in the fridge at the top. But it would be nice to have a separate one that you know will keeps your meats Ice cold.
You passed over a lot of nice features like the tire link system and the omni-directional antenna and azdel siding
Pick up our 16RD this friday!! Can't wait!
How have you liked it? I'm concerned on the build quality. Wasn't sure if it was up to par.

I would keep that black tank dump valve closed when not hooked up to a hose at a dump station. It will save you a very dirty mess on your shoes.
Sweet little trailer! Can the solar package be upgraded? Not a fan of the chosen panel, plus I'd like a dual battery box and larger inverter.
Hi Scot, thanks for watching. Aftermarket upgrades are always possible, but there is not another option for solar from the factory at this time.
Just a request on future videos can you concentrate more on the inside storage? Very important to me.

How is this off-road ? It doesn’t have an articulating hitch … why ?
Paraphrasing your own words: here at the back of the hitch 16 rd one of the first things we notice is that we have no hitch receiver.

That is a shifty attempt to try to do what Australian campers can do. No comparison in quality. American builders have no idea what we want!
