Easily learn every note on the guitar neck and never be lost again with my book: "Unlocking The Fretboard" colossal-painter-8702.ck.page/products/unlocking-the-fretboard
In the 70s I self taught and finger picked with just my thumb and pointer finger and over the decades and was pretty good. I only knew how to play a few songs and COVID 19 I started online lessons. But, learning the proper way to finger pick as you are showing was tough unlearning the old and learning to use the three fingers and thumb. Now that I am finger picking properly as you are teaching it's unmatched to the old way and in every way. Wish UA-cam was around decades ago. All that lost time playing the same ol' songs
Thanks for your comment!! That’s so great though that you’re on the right track now! There’s nothing you can’t play with this technique! Keep up the great work! That’s not easy un-learning and learning a new way, I commend you for your hard work!!
Ohhhhhh Voooooowww..!!!! So beeeeauuuuutifuuuull and amazing but sooooo simple to follow the Patterns..! 👍 Thank you soooooo much Sir. Lord Swaminarayan bless you so much 🙏👍👌
Just found your channel. I'm 73 and started playing guitar at 13, but always wanted to learn finger picking and have watched a number of videos, yours is by far the best. Thank you from an old cabin in the woods of Florida
@ Wow, thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you found my video helpful! More fingerstyle videos coming soon! Best of luck to you and let me know if you need any help with anything?!
Good ol' pattern 3. Oddly enough, I think that it might have been the first one I learned. G D C D, good ol' Justin Guitar in 2019. Come to find out, that's Wonderful Tonight. I really need to get back to trying to get in to playing fingerstyle. Cheers!
That's a really good lesson. If you grow out those three nails how long do they need to be? I do mechanic work and always seem to break mine so I keep them short.
Hey Ronnie, Thanks by the way! They don't have to be long at all. Just grow them a bit longer or long enough so that the string is able to launch off them if that makes sense. The idea is that the string hits the flesh of your finger first then glides off the nail. It gives a really nice crisp sound! Just go a little longer that normal and see how that works. I should do a video on it, ha. I break mine sometimes too! Best of luck!
Hey! I wouldn’t recommend anchoring your pinky on the guitar. I’ve seen people do it and I’ve done it from time to time but I feel like it locks you down and slows you down too much! For me the pinky isn’t involved and I don’t think about it at all. Just let it stay curled close to the palm or let it go where it wants to goes naturally if that makes sense! Best of luck to you and thanks for watching!!!
Got my first guitar, not best but it's ok. I m really struggling with clean notes. In videos I can see some people holding Strings in middle of bord. And it sound fine but with my guitar it always buzzing. I tried fixing action and everything but not able to fix it.
Oh ya. Congrats on your first guitar! I wonder if you could take it to a guitar or music store where they can lower the action for you? Ask for a set up and for them to lower the action to the lowest possible for you!
I looked in amazon for the buffer, but the last thing I need is to get something that makes my fingers pretty instead of a thing that actually works on nails. Some looked kinda like yours but "m not sure. Could you list the right one. Thank you!
Sure, ya we don’t want pretty, ha. Mine is a 7 in 1. This one looks similar. you just cut out all the middlemen for me. I don't need to endlessly peruse youtube for the lastest and best plan for me. I have enjoyed the guitar since I was 15 and now I am 72l NO one has made me feel more comfortable in the learning environment. I'll be watching you.
@@teddyspaw haha good eye!! Ya it’s great for changing chords in the key of “A”. I teach my beginner students to do that. Then the first finger basically becomes an anchor finger or guide finger. You don’t have to lift it when changing to D. And you just slide it back a fret when changing to E. I talk about it a bit in my other videos!
Buffing your nails stop the sound of nail scraping the wire of the whelmed strings particularly index finger on the third string. Not saying you shouldn’t grow, shape or buff your nails only that the flesh of your fingers doesn’t make that squeaky noise. 0:10 0:
@@TheEtzz Thanks for commenting, I just wanted to do an easy song so people could focus more on getting the fingerpicking patterns! Ya that Police arrangement is cool hey?!!!
Mmmmmm, I disagree! I have played rythm guitar badly, on and off for over 10 years. I've finally admitted to myself that approaching 70 I'm never gonna set the guitar world on fire, but I'd love to be able to knock out some tunes that my family recognise and don't require me to use my dreadful voice. Just simple camp-fire stuff is fine by me, and I really think finger-style could fit the bill (for me!). Thanks for the video, you've reignited my enthusiasm, I really think that this is a style I can get resonable at - my mission for 2025!
@TheEtzz Your flat out wrong, “You Are My Sunshine” is a perfect song for this tutorial and I am very glad he used it in this lesson as it highlights all the fingerpicking techniques he is teaching here and it was easy to follow along to. The only thing “lame” here is your $h!tty ungrateful attitude.
