Thank you for the video; a bit apprehensive at first. However, I did lite and few strays with just a cloth to wipe up black residue. 10m later engine light turned off and idle is back on point. Salute! From a novice viewer.
Also if you're worried about the possibility of using too much cleaner, you can spray the cleaner onto a rag, rub the now cleaner-dampened rag on to all dirty parts, then use a toothbrush, then use clean side of rag with more spray to finish it off.
Nice video. I use Seafoam to clean my 08 yukon denali xl. The only difference is I have someone lightly put there foot on the pedal and let the cars natural operation open the throttle body while I spray the cleaner in. With this method I don't have to reset anything because the car is working on its own. I then let the truck rest for about 30 minutes and then start it up again. you will see that big black cloud of smoke come out the tail pipe and bamm. It is running like new. I rarely have any issues with my truck and I have 188k miles on her.
I’m sorry to tell you, but Seafoam spray does not clean your throttle body. This is a different required maintenance.

I wish I would’ve read the comments before buying the TBC. I was thinking about using seafoam too so I could put the leftovers in the gas tank.

Easy solution, just remove the throttle body and do the cleaning outside the vehicle. Definitely recommend cleaning the MAF sensor at the same time as well
Make sure you use MAF sensor cleaner not throttle body cleaner

I wish I had watched the other videos on this topic first. I manually opened the vane and now my throttle position sensor is jacked.
What did you do to fix it?
Take off the throttle boby when ur cleaning it save ur engine 2 nuts and 2 bolt if u ask me this is the wrong way to clean ur throttle boby
I agree, another 90 seconds time for 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and the electrical plug and the TB is completely removed eliminating any chances of hydro locking the engine. Leaving the TB on is lazy.
And it’s needs a program if you take the throttle body out

Consider disconnecting the power even if you don't remove the throttle body from its mount. These electronic types sometimes to an auto cycle. If that plate slams shut on your finger its powerful enough to take the tip off. You may not be able to remove your finger with the reduction gears engaged.
Use screwdriver handle (or similar) to hold throttle body open while cleaning.
Hey bro, great video on cleaning throttle body, however i was tild by a mechanic that if you move that valve with your finger or even after you clean throttle body it dis-programs it self... im ny case i got a service traction/reduced engine power/service stabilitrak on my dashboard... i hooked it up to a scanner and got the P2176 code, please help!

@@efrengarcia9506 You can do a re-learn. Idle 3 minutes. Turn off. Do that 3 times. Also, if that doesn't do it, take your vehicle on the highway. Throttle up and down above 44 mph. For many miles. I have heard a minimum of 50 miles. You can try those steps a couple times. If it still fails, repair shop time.
I did everything as u did in the video, had NO problems with starting the truck up. The RPM were high at first but then it idled down. The only problem I'm having is, when it's in park r in neutral and I tap the gas pedal, the RPM will jump to 3000 r so for little while and then slowly idle back to about 500 rpms. Also, i noticed that right before coming to a complete stop, it feels like the truck lounges forward. And as soon as I let go of the brake the truck starts moving forward normally as it should, but in no time at all I'm in second gear and doing 15-25mph (without touching the gas pedal). Any ideas on what's causing this.

Stephen Casanova that’s a differential issue. Rear differential. I had the same issue. 2012 GMC Yukon. I replaced all the u joints and bought a new nickel plated yoke. Flushed the rear differential fluid, tranny fluid and it shifts like a dream. There should be a recall for this issue, but GM hasn’t done that yet. $350.00 out of pocket will give you sound mind.

Ok vid, but as others posted, don't open the throttle manually, these newer style Chevy's use electronically controlled throttle bodies and opening it manually will throw it off calibration.
It will definitely throw it out of calibration and the dealer only charges $138. Learned the hard way.

@@JoeyDaBull the throttle position on my 2008 , 4.3 v6 being out of calibration caused it to over Rev. And it idled at around 2000 rpm and when I would turn it off it would sometimes diesel or want to keep running. What are your symptoms?
There are too many scenarios wrong with this video, 1) You should have removed the throttle body from the engine, then spray clean it, you don't want to introduce foreign chemicals to the engine. 2) The butter fly is computer controlled, the BCM will still think the (TB) clog remains, until it re-learns the Idle on a cleaned throttle body, which can take driving your vehicle over 150 miles, unless if you have an active online scanner to make the computer adjustments. According to your video, If someone follows your instructions, then start up their vehicle, the first thing that will happen is the (RPM"s) will shoot up to 3000, once they press the gas. This is a quick way to clean your (TB), but it's not a recommended way to do it, it will cause more problems for you!!!

@Durin Greyowl, Only what I described in my comment, there are two ways to resolved your problem, 1) if you have an active scan tool that allows you to make computer adjustments to the (BCM), You'll have to make the BCM re-learn it's idle after cleaning the throttle body, or 2) eventually after driving for 100 miles or so in stop and go traffic, the BCM computer will eventually re-learn that the throttle body isn't congested any longer, and start making the proper adjustments to gas and air ratio. I AM NOT A MECHANIC, but I have personally experienced and dealt with this issue and resolved it myself. I don't have a scan tool so what I did was found a mechanic that charged me $35.00 just to make my Tahoe re-learn it's Idle. Hope this helps you to fix your problem!!!!!

RIGHT? a friend of mine tried to tell me that's why mine wouldn't start ...and he's a licenced mechanic... maybe with seafoam and not idling high enough then shutting her down before it burns off, but not throttle body cleaner, unless you pop the can and dump it in

However I have a question, in your video you moved the butterfly with your hand but by doing that, does the truck will have higher revs or malfunction or does it has to relearn the throttle position again?? I have seen in other videos the guys saying not to touch the butterfly to avoid moving it... I hope you can teach me into this. Thanks
I wouldn't go as far as saying don't touch the butterfly. They are known to go bad (they way you mentioned) from time to time but I worked at a dealership and I would do this service about 4 to 5 times a day on similar models. In a year, I might see one go bad. However, if you don't clean the throttle body there is a good chance you will experience low idle and drivability concerns.
If you do not want to risk it. Then, you could try having someone push the accelerator pedal with the ignition on, engine off. I'm not sure if that will get the butterfly to move though because ultimately it's controlled by the ECM.
You can have someone press the gas pedal with key on, ignition off. That's what I do, my tahoe insists on this service every few months.

with that seafoam you dont run the risk of over spray. It melts all that gunk away with little if any scrubbing. Nice suggestion. And it get real deep in the throttle body.

Dude, you never clean that throttle body like that. You need to mention to these folks that this is not the recommendation. You also need to do an Idle re-learn.
I've been told not to clean the throttle body unless I have a scanner to reprogram it as the electrical one will make it either drop the rpms or have them raise up too much, any thruth to this?

I took my 2014 chevy to get an oil change an they suggested to get the throttle body service estimated cost $120 and also they have to programmed it....I mean this is simple enough I think I can do, but I don't know about programming it

I never said the cleaning would fix a reduced engine power code. This is just maintenance. If you have a Reduced Engine Power situation I would get the car scanned to know where the problem is coming from.
Hey I realize this is a year old but you need a new throttle position sensor. They about 40 bucks at most auto parts stores. Easy to change too.

Your truck will reset after driving a certain number of miles. You have to open using the gas pedal only not by hand.
14 chevy 1500 25,000 on odometer v6 was told by dealer I needed to have my throttle body and fuel injector cleaned. confident in doing what you've shown. what are your thoughts on fuel injectors?
Most cars dont require you to ever flush the injectors. If you do not have a reason to flush them. Leave them alone.
Cleaning it isn't going to fix a problem with the sensors. You have to replace the parts if they have been diagnosed to be replaced.
I have a 2012 Yukon xl that has a hard time starting cold. usually if I don't use it in a day or so. once I get it started it won't do it for the rest of the day. it also has a hard time starting after I pump gas. what I have to do is hit the gas and eventually it starts with a could of smoke coming from the tail pipe.

After I cleaned mine when I put in drive it reved by itself to 1000rpm without me touching the gas pedal does it eventually correct itself or relearn it self I also disconnected the positive battery cable

You would be better off to take it off and be shure not to move the throttle Plate while cleaning it, otherwise you may have to recalibrate the idle speed. recalibrated.

Ok Hopefully I can get a response? Ok so I have a 2010 Tahoe Z71 5.3 vortex flex fuel that I bought a month ago I started to realize that the idle drops when I'm stopped in a drive thru or at a stop light it goes from normal idle to a few Rpms lower and then you can kinda feel a little bit if a stutter bad it never stalls or dies and as soon as I push on the acceleration it's fine and it never happens while driving also I have no check engine light it just does starts doing it randomly when at idle do you think that it's a dirty throttle body and just a simple as a clean? Please help I thank you for your time in advance.

@@miacoleman2927 The things I replaced were the air filter, battery, spark plugs, I installed a oil catch can and had a fuel treatment done at the time of the oil change. After replacing the items listed above my truck runs perfectly, never had the problem since. And it runs 10 times stronger and smoother then it did when I first bought it. I also get about 5 to 10 better MPG on premium chevron gas. Hope that helps. It only cost me $200 for everything including the oil change and the only thing they didn't do for me was install the oil catch can, but anyone that's even kinda Mechanically incline can put it in about 5 mins.

I wouldn't unless you plan on replacing the throttle body gasket. Those gaskets are so thin that just removing the throttle body could break them. Just spray it in there. It helps clean the manifold as well. Just keep an eye on how much. in other words if you used half of a bottle its way to much. Just spray a little and brush, then spray a little more and wipe clean.

Having an issue with my 07 suburban. On the highway abs light came on and check engine light aas flashing. Pulled off high way, misfire on 7. Changed coils, plugs, wires, oil, air filter, cleaned MAS. Turned back on abs came on "service stabilitrak& service traction control. Now reads misfire on 3. Wth do I do now? I have heard grounding wire, brake sensor thing, and abs spees sensors can be the issue, from an online search. Do you have any advice?
I believe you had to disconnect the battery first, that is a sensor that you cleaning

When I idle the rpms are at 1000 as soon as I touch gas it goes to 3000 until I put it into gear. Will it correct itself after awhile or is that a sign to have checked
The engine is expected to act weird at first but after a few accelerations and a few minutes of idling everything should go back to normal. If it does anything that it didn't do before. then there is a problem.
Gianna Amadio: You're not supposed to open your throttle body manually. It that's why your idle is high. It will eventually relearn itself. Next time turn the key into the on position and have a friend floor the gas without it running obviously. And you will not hydolock your engine using carb/tb cleaner. It will evaporate as you're cleaning.
@@imarealist6275 you in fact can and will hydro lock your engine using throttle body cleaner if you use far too much which I have seen first hand myself. I watched someone damn near do it and had to step in and shove a small towel into the throttle body to soak up as much as i could because he was about to try to start the engine and that would have been very bad. So your comment is false.

Please do not do this! I listened and did exactly as he said. My car reved up and stayed at 3rpms. Now i have high rpms even when idling my vehicle even kept going without throttling it so we went and got new throttle body same thing now in shop waiting to see what is going on.

You can take all the coil packs off and all the spark plugs then turn the car over! If your lucky, it will spray all that crap out through the plug openings with the super high compression not under load!
