When I was born way back in 1964 there was roughly 3.5 Billion people in the world and scientists were apparently already concerned that we were overpopulating. 50 years later, that number has doubled, I think we're past the limit to how many people the world can sustain and approaching the point of no return fast.

We, humans, have already been producing enough food for 11 to 12 billion people every year for quite a long time. The real problem is with the extremely uneven distribution of the produce.
In Africa, when the USA ships food, it often gets highjacked and not distributed.

This kind of scenario is seen in one of my favorite tv shows, SeaQuest DSV. Due to burgeoning population growth, rising sea levels, and dwindling resources, Earth’s oceans have been colonized and humans now eat mostly sea-based foods like algae.
If you don’t know what SeaQuest was about, it’s basically like Star Trek, but underwater.

Studies show that more educated people have less children than less educated people. To solve the population crisis, we need to introduce new forms of education to developing countries. You can observe that people in african countries have significantly more children than those in America or Europe. This is due to many factors but the main cause is ignorance (lack of education).
Be careful with that assumption because there's a correlation but isn't necessarily the major cause. Less educated people, overall, live in poorer countries where people are more likely to need to have more children to run farms, for example. Removing the need for having more children will stop population growth. That comes from breaking the poverty cycle and introducing machinery to make manual labour obsolete.
How to solve the population crisis:

Now, let's do the maths - a family produces 3 kids. In a generation, each of his 3 kids now produce 3 kids themselves, giving a total of 9 kids. In the 2nd generation, this grand kids grow up and produces 3 kids again for a total of 27 great grand kids.
So a typical family in 3 generation produces 27 great grand kids. Now assuming the world has 50 million people making love now and actively producing kids. This is a very very small number.
50 million x 27 kids = 1350 million new people. Assuming one generation is about 80 years of a human life span.
Three generations, which is 240 years later we have 1350 million new people. So EVERY 240 years, the humans is increased by 1350 million new people. If you use a trawler to fish and feed 1350 million people, assuming each person eat one fish a day, 1350 million fishes disappear from the ocean every day- faster then they can grow up and reproduce. Ocean will be the first one to go with zero fishes available in 1000 years.
Time to do the maths...it cannot last forever..Humans cannot continue to grow forever, because Earth is like a piece of bread, it is fixed and resources are limited and Earth cannot grow..
Vertical farms and lab grown meat could be solutions. We have the technology to feed and house everyone on the planet. Society must change before we get there...drastic changes.

As people in undeveloped countries adopt more "modern" lifestyles, they'll also start using birth control.
I did a 6 month research project on human population in my English class and even though Poverty stricken countries have higher birth rates, they dont use near as much as the resources modern countries do. If we want to hold more people on the earth, the modernized countries will have to reduce their consumption rates.
Unfortunately the faith of some countries is against birth control.

If we still keep having billions of babies we'd better start figuring out how to colonize by the billion. I would wonder if having 2 kids per parent would work To keep the pop down. A lot of factors to consider with that too though.
If most couples only had one child for a few generations it would bring our population down to sustainable numbers. We should also consider becoming primarily vegetarian in order to make more efficient use of crop land. If we do all that we should be fine. Unfortunately, we won't.

Whoever thinks there are too many humans alive should leave Earth.
Ummm if the climate gets warmer by a whopping 2 degrees the total acreage of agricultural land would increase as more stable and longer growing conditions would be introduced in higher latitudes offsetting at a minimum any lost or shortened growing climate in lower latitudes. Our planet has been 2 degrees warmer in the past and sustained a larger plant base during those periods.
