    Excellent work on this Dragon model. Evidently the German designers never included an inclement weather canvas overhead tarp against rain, sleet, and snow, making it very uncomfortable for the crew. American tank destroyers included an inclement weather frame and canvas over the open turret.
    The SD KFZ-234/4 could not really be classified as a fighting armored vehicle, although it was certainly deployed as one. In practicality it was a self-propelled, 75mm anti-tank cannon with dual infantry direct support capability. Its open top and minimal armor protection for the crew did not render the 234/4 as an optimum fighting armored vehicle.
    It's direct American counterpart would have been the M3 GMC 75mm cannon half-track. Both possessed similar anti-tank capabilities although the German Pak/Kwk 40 75mm long-barrel high-velocity anti-tank gun was superior to the M3 GMC's 75mm shorter barrel cannon, which was a WW1 French design. That said, the M3's 75mm cannon was not inferior as it's armor piercing ammunition could stop early model German tanks like the PzKpfw I, II, and III and first generation IV.
    Both German and American vehicles were however vulnerable to enemy tank cannon fire Both crews sat in armored cabins rated only against .30 caliber bullets although the 234/4 did possess sloped 30mm frontal glacis armor, giving it protection against American .50 caliber heavy machine gun fire.

    BTW, for all you 1/35th model hounds:
    -Heavy Hobby makes a Sd.Kfz 234 after-market set that includes a WELL detailed/printed Tatra diesel motor w/fuel tanks & the entire rear structure/engine bay/deck composed of brass photo-etch panels (25-30$)
    -Got one of the HH motor/rear end sets & a Dragon Sd.Kfz 234/4 in the mail, that Ill heavily damage/modify, having it sit on the Sd.Kfz 9 FAMO's Sd.Ah 116 trailer, having been recovered & awaiting further repairs with a WerkStattCo...
    -Ive Been steadily working near full time on a Normandy France, July 1944 mega-dio (5x10 foot base most likely?) for 15+ years now. The main feature/scenes, among so many others, will be a couple of Wehrmacht/2nd SS Das-Reich Panzer WerkStattCompanies wrenching n' repairing all manner of German tanks/AG's/soft-skinned vehicles...
    -Upon this next 234 arriving & getting built, that will make for 5 total Dragon Sd.Kfz 234's of all variants (Two long barreled 7.5cm armed PAK variants) & another AFV Club 7.5cm L24 armed, 8-rad Sd.Kfz 231 or 232 IIRC?)
    -Presently working on a TAM Sd.Kfz 9 FAMO with 'TigerModelDesigns' excellent resin 6 ton Bilstien crane set conversion, 'BoldDivisions' canvas cab cover/tilt & 'PanzerConcepts' full late FAMO kit. This last one will make for 4 TAM FAMOS total..(Prob buy n' build Trumpeters coming crane FAMO too;)
    -Two TAM Sd.Ah 116 trailers w/PZIII broken tank loads...
    -One DasWerk Sh.115 ten ton trailer with a Dragon Sd.Kfz 250 (WELL shot up, but repairable)
    -Two 3 ton Bilstien cranes mounted on Dragons Sd.Kfz 7 (Kit bashed with the AFV Club's Bussing-Nag L4500A crane trucks)
    -One Trumpy DB Sd.Kfz 8 with a Takom Bergepanthers 40 ton winch modification/installation (They did construct 1 or 2 real FAMOS with such a 40 ton winch mod during the war years, prob too much for the vehicles chassis tho? The DB 8 has exterior frame/chassis leaf spring bogey suspension, so the 40 ton winch can sit much lower down in the chassis VS the FAMO's torsion bar suspension, requiring it sit much higher)
    -Two Takom Bergepanther recovery vehicles to flesh-out the diorama recovery company's needs...
    -Youre 234 example here is simply STUNNING!...Wonderful modeling work....;)

      Jeez, didnt mean too ruffle yas feathers. Does the same apply to pulling a weapons trigger with a string @ a distance? As it is accomplished 'remotely' (Albeit with a person 'attached' to the firearm in a way...
      >As I'd stated in my comment about the ATF

      I wasn't offended or anything I was just stating that having a firearm in a RC tank that is fired via the radio is illegal unless you have the paperwork, no more no less.

    56:00 Nice you'd mentioned that, as we are so used to being able to pose wheels/tires in directions, some may not have the skill, nor knowledge needed, to modify such w/o the possibility of breaking, or mussing up, much needed parts in so doing...
    -IIRC? -Although your kit is the older Dragon offering, the newest Dragon 'Premium Edition" SD.Kfz 234's have the potential to pivot the rear/front wheels in the builders chosen, or needed directions (The premium kits coming with suspension changes/new parts, 'Sandwich style' multi-part tires & pre-formed/metal brake lines for each individual wheel station)...
    -Tip for other modelers making the 234: (Not finished viewing vid yet, so dont know if youll mention?;) Remember: the wheels turn in blocks of four, if the front 4 wheels are all pointing to the >> right >>, the rear block of 4 wheels/tires will all need to be posed pointing to the > (Hence the awesome all/8 wheel steering/turning radius of the 234)
    -Additionally, 'E.T Model' (No: P35-111 set) makes a printed resin/workable suspension & steering gear set in which all wheels can be posed @ the modelers preferred angles...AND...allows vertical ^ articulation of each individual wheel station swing arms if the model happens to be situated crossing a ground obstacle, such as an individual log, rock, etc (Ive just purchased the E.T P-35-111 set myself;)

      @oddball759mm  7 місяців тому

      Yes this is the older release, Dragon just rereleased this kit and the new version has the option of positioning the wheels in the steered config. Also as you stated you want to have the steering in the manner you stated as the front 4 and the rear 4 turn opposite from one another

    Fantastic work. What colors and brand of paint did you use for the camouflage? Particularly the brown?

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you :). the brown flat exterior latex house paint and it is my own mix that I cobbled together. After I mix my own color swatch I have it reproduced in a quart or gallon format and I use it on my models both large and small. It is applied with the airbrush after it is thinned out to the proper consistency with tap water. The yellow was Tamiya Dark yellow and also airbrush applied over the brown that was used as the base coat as it is the dominants color on this model. I hope this is answers your question :)

    • @jusztinnemeti6380
      @jusztinnemeti6380 11 місяців тому

      @@oddball759mm I have used Tamiya dark yellows XF 60 and XF 88. But I switched over to the AK modulation kit for Dunkelgelb. For brown, I use Tamiya red brown. Highlights with a bit of Tamiya Buff mixed in. Yours has more of the Hull red or oxide red color, that's why I was wondering. House paint? Wow. No other colors in any range would have saved you the trouble, lol?

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  11 місяців тому +1

      @@jusztinnemeti6380 I use the house paint because when you build as many tanks as I do in the scales as I do the little bottles run out quickly and the costs add up just as fast. For $20.00 I have way more paint than the bottle equivalent. also unlike the off the shelf stuff this way I have more control on the final mix, so as you can see it has lots of advantages. something to consider

    this is beautiful man. do you have a guide on how to do the camouflage pattern on this? did you just freehand it with an airbrush? or maybe there is a guide you followed for this look?

    • @oddball759mm
      @oddball759mm  Рік тому

      Thank you :), Almost all of my camo work is done free hand with the airbrush. Only on a few rare occasions are the patterns pre drawn with a pencil prior to the application of the camo. There is a color guide illustration with the kit, but I just use it as a rough guide while the actual camo work is done freehand
