The judge stated she seemed to be sorry. I never saw that one time in her. If she was sorry, it was for herself. A life is worth 20 years?? She should have gotten the max of 30 years behind bars. Really she should have gotten life. These states and the different laws really are unfair.
In Ashley's face, I see a woman furious that she couldn't manipulate the court the way she manipulated her victim. I think her mother is also guilty of this crime. They both used Doug in his final months, and I believe they planned his murder together. After raising one monster, her mother should not be permitted to raise Doug's daughter.
I can’t believe he was interrupting Doug’s daughter’s speech. She should have been allowed to say whatever she wanted without any interruptions. That was her dad!
It is OUTRAGEOUS that the victim impact statement is interrupted and the victims should be able to say whatever they want apart from cussing! Also, WTH raising your right hand to give an impact statement??? Really? That's a crock of crap all for the murderer and causing yet more pain on the victim's family. WTH Florida!
I don’t understand how this judge at all! He said he feels Ashley is sorry … she is only sorry for herself! Not for murdering her husband in cold blood! And to sustain some of Eva’s impact statement is utterly disgusting 🙄! Never have I seen that happen before. Doug Benefield RIP 💔😢
She manipulated a wealthy man, spent his money, and thought she could spin a story to get full custody and keep him away from his child. Her pitiful look will be gone in prison.
Do your research. Doug was not wealthy. Did you see where his 1st wife was angry for having to sell everything down to her wedding rings? He had no money. He was deeply in debt
@@jodifocht5680 right Florida is always on that BS, and over the last few years my next door neighbor Ohio has been trying to be the Florida of the Midwest. It’s been getting crazy in Ohio.

Yes, smug. Since around the late 70’s/early 80’s - society has given legal/social justifications/excuses(batter spouse/postpartum depression) for women to cause harm to the statistically most common victims of their violence - children and their spouses. How often are men given such considerations for similar horrible crimes? She is offended she didn’t get a pass, when in reality she did(only 20 years), so she sits smugly. If he killed her, he would have gotten the death penalty or life in prison at a minimum….
20 is not justice. Hey, judge! You cannot interrupt Eva’s statement. I don’t understand the jury didn’t come to the 2nd degree murder. She’s gonna be out in 17 yrs. She lured him into the house and shot him, which is 1st degree premeditated murder. Ashley, don’t make that angry grumpy face because 20 is a gift.😡🤬😡🤬😡
The Florida Electorate needs to fire the Judge. I've never seen victim statements interrupted like that. Why was he protecting a convicted murderer at this stage? Imagine being Doug's family. I pray for Eva. Write a book, Eva!!
Where did she look smug ? She looked like the bottom was falling out of her world to me . I think you need to retract that statement because its FALSE !

I think the subtle nuances of her looks as the judge speaks to her and the moments (when other people are talking while she's enduring her judgement sentencing that she don't even really want to have to do from the judge ) are the 'smug' interpretation that the person who titled this is deriving it from. The idea of 'smug' is largely perceived but I think she's 'easily bothered' rather than smug but I kinda feel that's what they were going for perhaps.
I have PTSD, but l am NOT going to do a crime and hurt someone. Justice will be served one day the way that it’s supposed to be served Praying for the victim family.
Motionless upon hearing the sentence. Cold and remorseless. This is exactly how she looked after murdering Doug, cold, calm, controlled, walked away without even looking at him. Evil animal
She murdered her husband and that's why she's going to prison for 20 and will do 10 on probation after. With all that said if her case goes before a prison review and they decide that she has done well or is up for a shortened sentence (which imho is absurd to even say for murder) then they would determine it at that point to let her out but no prison review board is gonna vote all in favor of that once since she fired a weapon on her husband with his back turned. They want her to stay right where she is theyre not itching to let murderers back out on the street asap coupled with the fact that she made national news...
Well that entitlement its about to go kaput! once she's in the clink and a bunch of big mammas trash talk her and shut down that snobby attitude she gives off. She'll be getting her eyes blacked out and hair pulled out by some woman that wont put up with her expression in prison. They put girls like her in check real quick. I'm not a female nor have I ever stepped foot in a prison but I know what I know.
Smug? She looks like she’s broken. She has zero expression on her face. Smug is a disgusting way to describe her. Yall seem to forget she was a victim too.
I cannot believe these defense attorneys butting into the victim impact statements & the judge not allowing the victims allowed to say what they feel as long as they are speaking eloquently about things, it’s THEIR FEELINGS & thoughts on what Ashley did & how it impacted their lives & their families lives!
What a disgusting and irresponsible tagline for a “news” channel to post!! You have NO idea what she’s experiencing! There’s MANY of us that see trauma and disassociating in her look the entire time! Also a tell tale sign of DV victims!! Honestly!! Get it together!! 😡
The word smug originated from the Middle Dutch word smuc, which means "neat, pretty, nice". But also, in the definition of ‘smug’, it says: “and having no doubt about the value of what you know or have done.”

Didn't want to share custody of their child.. Now because of her selfishness the child has no mother or father growing up...
