      People think that whatever kids do is entirely up to them and parenting had nothing to do with it. That is false parents have the power to create any little monster they want they can make or break a child's life everything they do is being watched and noted everyday any wrong move they make can have disastrous effects on that child's adult life

    My mother had depression since she was a teen and it got worse when my dad cheated on her when I was 2 and my brother was 7. My brother recently died but she has always been an amazing mom. She is the best. The thing I noticed growing up though was that if I tried to tell a joke that normally someone would laugh at she would not, she’s very unemotional and growing up I guess that has effected me.

      Ty for sharing i think thats her personality. Im the Opposites with me you can always joke and laugh even in the darkest times i stay sain that way. Im very emotional Intune with the people around me. I struggle my whole life with my depression i cant even remember living without it..
      My son is the most happy child i have ever seen he always Smiling very social, never afraid, very smart i think there is a big stigma on depressed mothers who have children.. a child really doesnt have to suffer as long as you put in the hard work and understand that its a disease people cant help.. most people with depression suffer in silence.. and tbh he made me a better person. I just wish he doesnt become depressed when hes old i dont wish that on my worst enemy.

    The programming you're downloaded with as a child matters. If you have a depressed or alternatively narcacisstic parent the downloads you get about your worth / value are soo damaging. People need to become aware of them and start to change them.

      My 5yr old is autistic and i suffer from chronic depression so I try to work extra xtra hard to avoid going down a sad slump when he is home, i try to get us to go out for a long walk if i feel like i cant function, take them to the park etc, I need to work part time to keep my mind sometimes from going into a dark hole... id rather have a messy house than be sad so in that case go outside to breathe some fresh air for me anf my kiddos... its hard.

      I'm talking from experience here. Maybe change your approach. Maybe try to coax him to open up about what he experiences daily, what he's worried about, what he would like to accomplish today (something simple as going for a walk). It means the world to a person who has depression to have someone willing to listen to them and their struggles and actually understand them without any judgement. Slowly slowly as he opens up, u can ask him what he used to like to do but doesn't have the strength to do alone and make it easier for him.

      I’m so sorry you have to experience this. I’m a depressed father as well and I try hard not to let it effect my kids. I’m sorry but there is nothing you can do but love him like I’m sure you already do. Just know it’s not your fault and that the poor guy is fighting a tremendous battle every day.

      Somehow make sure that you don't suffer from any significant mental illness yourself, and if you do - which is a high probability seeing that you were raised by seemingly a moderately or severely depressed mother - YOU get therapy, get better, and you'll have to then start from there, because unfortunately you won't be able to help your mother if you're significantly mentally ill in any way.
      If you're fine, and you're sure, the main idea is that you make sure that firstly she isn't affecting you in any way with her depression. I know you probably don't care about your side of things right now as much as you do hers, but this IS the way to help her. Just her being surrounded by health, by healthy boundaries, by contentedness, happiness maybe, that is about the ONLY thing you can do, other than telling her that what you want out of her is that she just goes to therapy.
      And btw her being surrounded by health that's not little whatsoever, and that's not psycho-blabber either. It's HUGE, and it contributes a very sizeable chunk of the help that she needs. But also you gotta remember that at some point, sooner or later, you gotta accept that she's a separate, free person, of which you just cannot and should not control or save. She's gotta do the work herself.
      Good luck, sir/Ms., and side note: It's not your responsibility necessarily at all to save your mom.. She's her own person, and it ain't your fault, it ain't your role or responsibility in any way, no matter how much you love her, or how much she's done for you... Your only responsibility is being a good son/daughter, make her proud & content by just being an independently balanced & well person. It's very common especially in that situation of yours that the child becomes the parent, which just.. NEVER works, and is NEVER good for anybody.
      I'm not a psychiatrist or a therapist, but my whole family is, I've gone to therapy for years, and I'm just a dude that's generally interested in psychology and psychotherapy and stuff like that, read a lot of books and asked a lot of questions.. And my dad, who's a great therapist & psychiatrist, also suffers from depression + severe anxiety, so I know pretty well how it can be and how it can get around the house.

      you can't no matter what you try even if you try you'll lose yourself in the process causing yourself to become depressed you have to learn that it is what it is and you need to pray for your parents not try to fix them yourself and this is coming from someone who grew up with both of my parents being depressed it's sad but unfortunately nothing you can do

    • @Sol36900
      @Sol36900 2 роки тому +13

      I agree with Jason. You’re not the parent. It’s not your responsibility. If you try to take it on it’ll have serious negative affects on you. I know because for years I tried to help my mom only to be suicidal and later develop anxiety. Get her professional help. First, get her to see a regular doctor. There could be a physical cause. My mom found out her thyroid isn’t working which was affecting her mood. If everything comes out normal ask for a test on her vitamin and minerals. She could be deficient. If it still comes out normal push her to see a therapist. Meanwhile, take her out for walks and change your diet - you’d be surprised what we eat affects us mentally.

      Not really, i have this diagnose when i was a child ..there is a difference between posteantale depression and other depression.. i wasnt depressed for the first time in my life i can remember..when i was pregnant and after birth of my son. I was the happiest i have been all my life and i still am .. even while im taking care alone of him and dont have family.. im still happy one year after.. you can live perfectly fine with depression and having children .. and most people who get depression after having children its because its very hard raising a baby after carrying a child for 9 months with all the risk and changes in your body..your hormones are all over the place ..sleepless nights ..i felt sick for 10 months i had an hg pregnancy and still was happy..i understand that children can make someone depressed its not really strange it happens way more then you think, but it can be also easily the other way around..children can make your life much better.. i dont understand all the negativity plenty of parents who are depressed and theyre raising their perfectly fine. Depression has brought me a lot, learned a lot have seen a lot, it doesnt only take ..
