Stay far away from this tool and any other geared torque multiplier. This would be the most likely tool to shear your studs right off if the lug nuts were previously overtorqued and seized on after a harsh winter with exposure to road salt. The best way to break free stubborn lug nuts is with a hammering impact torque. If a breaker bar won't break it free by hand, then the bottom line is that you need an impact wrench. Nothing else will work.

One tool I could recommend to homeowners that isnt really strange is a knuckle bending wrench. There's several ways to adjust doors whether its shimming hinges or simply driving a 3 inch screw into the framing but often I find that those solutions don't do enough to get doors to operate properly, whether it's improper installation of the door originally or seasonal swelling a tool that has saved me from having to plane a door is bending the hinge knuckles to make an adjustment. You could do it with other wrenches but not without marring the hinges and leaving ugly teeth marks. I get calls constantly to fix sagging doors and this knuckle bender is always an easy remedy and saves me from having to plane and paint doors.
Try this if you have a pressure cooker. Cook fresh , or blanched and frozen blackeye peas, bring up to pressure , then turn off the heat, and let set until cool enough to open. The beans should, still be green but cooked. Oh my! If could have these every day, along with a hamburger with all the trimmings mustered not mayonnaise what overwhelming contentment I would have.
hi cody, i think that tool is nice but mrs w could put to much torque on the lug nut to fracture the stud a not know she fractured it and the torque while driving could break the stud off and could cause a crash. i personally think the four nut lug wrench is the best tool to remove and replace the lug nuts.
hauptmann6 i agree with that too but its just another tool to carry. i use to carry a entire tool box with me in the car. everytime i had trouble i would have every tool but the one i needed. so i stopped carrying the tool box. some thing with my bicycle. there are only a few tools to carry on my bicycle. again though you can forget one thing that can just ruin your ride. tools are just a great thing to help the diy person but you can always not have what you need to fix something.
I bought one like it over 15 years ago after it was on PBS Motor Week show. My wife and then my daughter carried it in their cars my daughter did use it when she had a flat. I first tested it on my pickup truck. I still have it in my garage and my need to carry it as I'm not getting any stronger. Keep the videos going.
The cheapest one I have found is hypertough brand sold at walmart for $40 and next would be $60 black and decker from walmart online. I have the bnd and its awesome. Not sure about the hypertough. Since then I have upgraded to ridgid and use the bnd as backup. Runs 1375in lb on the bnd and not sure about their house brand but it has to be the cheapest impact I have ran across. I did a review on the bnd and some youtubers have the hypertough. Edit: i also hear good thinks about harbor freights bauer impact, i think with coupon runs $65. I have the drill by bauer and it is a beast.
Your right. That is pretty cool. Great for a roadside flat. Before my kids started driving, I made them go through the flat tire drill in the driveway.
I used these on the old military M35 diesel trucks. You absolutely had to as the lug nuts were torqued to 400-500 lb/ft. This tool wouldn't have much use on a newer car that only requires 110-120 lb/ft, but if it was an older vehicle with rusty studs/lug nuts I'm sure this would be amazing if you didn't have a good impact...
I'd be interested if it would be any benefit to a lug nut that was particularly stubborn to get off. My brother's BMW X5 had a nut that was nearly impossible to come off with a 5ft lug wrench. To make matters worse the tyre wouldn't come off even after the nut was out. If that happens to you, it's relatively simple to fix just a bit of a hassle. Leave only two lug nuts in the hub (one opposite the other,) loosen them a few threads, but still have them plenty in. Then drive with them in and slowly drive back and forth over a block of wood or a curb. You'll probably hear a crack when the tyre has been freed, if not, check it anyway after a few times. The tyre will come off. Great video as always Cody

The benefit of that tool is to reduce stud breakage. Most people have a standard "tire iron". Due to their design a great deal of force is place vertically on the stud, this, especially in cold weather can cause a stud to snap.
Torque multiplier, and yes those are great. I have used a one inch and have seen a two inch monster. I have been told they make bigger then that. Thanks for sharing.
The real advantage of that tool, over a breakerbar, is even though it works about as well, it's far more compact, so it's easier to keep in the car than a long bar of metal. So it would be great in your breakdown kit, as opposed to dealing with the tire iron. Especially if your tires are put on by someone like my father whose idea of torquing them is "three or four ugga duggas in a star pattern"

Ooops. The story about the peas reminded of another story. This couple was visiting some friends for dinner. After dinner they went to the livingroom for coffee, tea... The hostess brings out a tray and asks what each person wants. The visiting husband says he wants coffee with cream. His wife quickly adds, "... and 2 sugar." The husband indicates to his hostess that just cream is fine and again his wife adds, "... and 2 sugar." Again, the husband says, "Just cream please, to which his wife says, "For 43 we've had coffee after dinner, and every night I've put cream and 2 sugar in it." He replied, "Did you ever see me stir it?" The moral of the story is, it's not worth ending a good relationship over 2 lumps of sugar. I hope you can use that.
The Williams company used to manufacture a similar tool with a 3/4” drive and 1” output side. That tool was for heavy equipment work before service trucks with air and impact wrenches.

Nice tool. We have them fitted in the hub of our scoop tram rock movers in the mines. They allow high revs from the 68 ltr V12 engines. They are called "Torque Converters" here
Torque multipliers are mainly used for high torque spec applications. If you had to torque something to 1500-2000 foot pounds, what sounds better? Buying a 3000 dollar torque wrench an muscling it, or buying a 600-1000 dollar multiplier and using your 1/2 torque wrench on it you already own and it tightening easy as pie? I had to use them on medium and heavy duty truck work time to time. I used to have to throw a 1 inch impact on a 6:1 multiplier to get some nuts to come loose
Peas are awful. One of the few culinary rules in my house is that no peas touch my plate or come in contact with my food. Vile things ruin the flavor of anything they touch. That and fish. No fish in the house. You want fish I'll happily catch it, clean it and cook it and serve it to you but it'll be outside. Don't ask to put it on my grill either. Oddly enough I enjoyed peas and fish as a small child but my taste buds changed I guess.

Sometimes it is best not to go back to your old favorite TV shows. :)
Absolutely. Never, ever, re-watch the Six Million Dollar Man. :(
Gentlemen, we can rewatch them. We have the technology.
if she watches the Manimal with him and doesn't leave halfway thru, she is the greatest wife ever
Try this if you have a pressure cooker. Cook fresh , or blanched and frozen blackeye peas, bring up to pressure , then turn off the heat, and let set until cool enough to open. The beans should, still be green but cooked. Oh my! If could have these every day, along with a hamburger with all the trimmings mustered not mayonnaise what overwhelming contentment I would have.
hi cody, i think that tool is nice but mrs w could put to much torque on the lug nut to fracture the stud a not know she fractured it and the torque while driving could break the stud off and could cause a crash. i personally think the four nut lug wrench is the best tool to remove and replace the lug nuts.
yeah its worrying to bust the nuts unconciously
Remove with it yes. Reinstall with a standard wrench.
hauptmann6
i agree with that too but its just another tool to carry. i use to carry a entire tool box with me in the car. everytime i had trouble i would have every tool but the one i needed. so i stopped carrying the tool box. some thing with my bicycle. there are only a few tools to carry on my bicycle. again though you can forget one thing that can just ruin your ride. tools are just a great thing to help the diy person but you can always not have what you need to fix something.
@@steveherring6660 I was referring to the one that came with your car, nothing fancy.
"It was the first time in 15 years I squeezed it from the middle."

Do tests on the cheapest impact driver that you could find.
Ian Brick already did - impact WRENCH
@@AlexLee-dc2vb I'm talking about a impact driver that impact wrench.
RIP Ms W, make sure you check your lug nuts, Cody was going wild with his new toy haha.
Sure hope that was another joke that Cody doesn't know about metric tools.
What do you expect from someone that wears an Elizabeth Warren commemorative jacket? (obligatory sarcasm tag)
It's a running joke (tease, troll) to the rest of the world.
at 12:00 idk why I found it so funny seeing Jack in the window 😆
Cars should come with those from the factory
and be reversible. that way you can break the torque, then spin off the nuts.

Where'd you get that notion

The benefit of that tool is to reduce stud breakage. Most people have a standard "tire iron". Due to their design a great deal of force is place vertically on the stud, this, especially in cold weather can cause a stud to snap.
Ha - I loved Manimal when I was a kid. Stingray as well.
Why does everyone mention Manimal so much, but Street Hawk and Auto-man lay long-forgotten?
What a great episode.. You two are awesome :) And that tool was pretty good too.
Cody, do you think Obenauf's would work on man-made leather/materials? Thanks!
Uggs duggas
And cross threading is nature’s loctite right? Lol
I like the breaker bar so if you have to knock somebody in the head
Country Boy is right. Breaker bar doubles as attitude adjuster.
It's like a little bit of Dapper Dan or Brilcream. A little dab will do ya!

It's an ongoing joke about the metric system 😉
According to him change is scary
johnkent2009 no its unnecesary
@@1986Honda4trax it is when the rest Of The world has moved on to more practical units of mesurment, instead of weighing everything in rocks like cavemen
johnkent2009 i dont hate the metric system, the only thing i would use it for is smaller measurements like anything under 6 inches, and there is no reason to change it, it works fine, and has worked fine for a very long time
Ooops.
The story about the peas reminded of another story.
This couple was visiting some friends for dinner. After dinner they went to the livingroom for coffee, tea...
The hostess brings out a tray and asks what each person wants. The visiting husband says he wants coffee with cream. His wife quickly adds, "... and 2 sugar." The husband indicates to his hostess that just cream is fine and again his wife adds, "... and 2 sugar."
Again, the husband says, "Just cream please, to which his wife says, "For 43 we've had coffee after dinner, and every night I've put cream and 2 sugar in it." He replied, "Did you ever see me stir it?"
The moral of the story is, it's not worth ending a good relationship over 2 lumps of sugar.
I hope you can use that.
I laughed out loud at the Mickey Mouse bit

Um that stands for millimeter, it’s the metric system and it’s better. Losers
Mitch Jones its a joke lmao, and the metric system is forbidden on this channel lmao.
The Williams company used to manufacture a similar tool with a 3/4” drive and 1” output side. That tool was for heavy equipment work before service trucks with air and impact wrenches.
Got to love the folk that need to be first in the comments lol.
It would be hilarious if they got banned from the channel for spamming that useless stupidity. I doubt Cody would do that but I'd support any channel that did. It's just dumb.
I did it this time to irritate the people who normally do it. Kinda fun really...
Good idea and close their account after the first warning.
Well, I just identify as first. That solves lots of problems. I don't actually have to try to really be first, I am successful at identifying as first every time and if everyone doesn't placate me and pretend I am first, I just call them names and stop off in a huff. lol :)
I feel your pain. I get it. You’re jealous as hell. Someday you too can be first. It all starts with training yourself to not blink anymore. Then you’ll never miss a notification. Blow off all family and friends. They’re just holding you back from being number one. And the most important thing to do, work on your victory comment. There is no one to thank but yourself so don’t. Or my personal favorite “🥇🍿finally!”

I used to have to throw a 1 inch impact on a 6:1 multiplier to get some nuts to come loose
mm stands for milli meter. Yep, it's the Metric system.
Vital Luyten: I am pretty sure he knows that ;-)...

Are you a Liberal?
Peas are awful. One of the few culinary rules in my house is that no peas touch my plate or come in contact with my food. Vile things ruin the flavor of anything they touch. That and fish. No fish in the house. You want fish I'll happily catch it, clean it and cook it and serve it to you but it'll be outside. Don't ask to put it on my grill either. Oddly enough I enjoyed peas and fish as a small child but my taste buds changed I guess.
It’s metric. Must be for those less robust Euro “men”.
You guys are awesome, and your interactions always make me smile. Thank you for another great video!
