Nothing wrong with that my brother, but how great the country would've been had the previous administrations embarked on this project when we had the oil boom. Ease of doing business should be promoted everywhere so that development can spread. This will reduce people migrating to developed cities in search of opportunities.

Infrastructure is what makes countries rich. No country has ever industrialised without a rail network. That's the only economical way to move raw materials, finished goods and food around the country. Trains are the reason why Thailand rice is cheaper in Lagos than the one grown in Enugu.
Even if Boko Haram burns the whole country down, these trains will still make Buhari the best president in our history. Hopefully future governments will continue building them.

It's an opportunity cost thing. We need the money to build the far more important Calabar to Lagos line that will connect the southeast and all the southern ports to Lagos. Nobody is travelling from port Harcourt to Maiduguri so an expensive rail line won't be viable.
The people who are really losing out are the people in the northeast because they'll be the only region with no standard gauge line. But stil,l a slow train is far better than no train.

Mmmmh. please, I have some questions.
    1) So, will it not be cheaper, shorter, therefore, better for the Onitsha importers to receive their goods via Onne, the PH seaport instead of via Lagos port? If you agree with me, then, there should be a rail line connecting Onitsha to Owerri!
    2) If, someone in Owerri has to take a train, for whatever reason , to Onitsha, he or she will be forced to take this route: Owerri down to Port Harcourt, then up to Aba, to Umuahia, then to Enugu passing through Okigwe. Finally, from Enugu to Awka then a car trip to Onitsha! ( at least pending when Anambra state can build their own rail line to connect Awka and Onitsha. sic!)
This is simply nonsensical. All that can be avoided and the whole system made much more efficient by joining Owerri to Awka via Onitsha. A simple rail line loop that will guarantee ease of movement of goods and persons.
    3) Rail lines are meant mainly for heavy load transport. The railway transportation system is optimal in serving industrial areas. Tell me, is there any place in the South East as industrialised as Nnewi, a city between Onitsha and Owerri? Therefore, this will be one more reason for a desperate need of the Owerri - Onitsha rail line

    • @NedMedia

Even though this two projects will intersect at PHC, they'll function concurrently as the rail stations will be optimised according to the rail designs.
Even in European cities such as Leeds And Manchester in England, there are narrow and standard gauges that take you in and around the metropolitan areas and beyond.
Some of the principal rail stations in these cities have both narrow and standard gauge rail lines that terminate there and even have interchanges for tram lines too.

We know what the plans are, - This eye service/drama they are displaying in the Eastern region in the name of constructing narrow gauge railway is just for 2023 election.
