They are not getting banned. I signed the petition and received an email from them saying that vehicles registered from September 2021 must meet the new standard (BS AU 145E) but vehicles registered before has to meet the previous standard (BS AU 145D)
I think this video needs an update now that BS AU 145E has been passed.
3D "effect" have been banned because all digits must be solid black and the 3D effect have grey sections in the font to give the effect.
Carbon digits have been banned, again because they aren't solid black.
3D gel digits are legal as long as the digits are solid black.
4D digits are legal as long as they are solid black and have no coloured "crystals" behind the digits.
The biggest problem for me is the DVLA's insistence on us physically seeing the V5C instead of accepting a photo emailed over. I really can't see how online plate manufacturers will survive with this rule.
I have read any plates 3d 4d etc before september 2021 are fine if fully legal and display what they should at bottom of plates. Everything after september 2021 is to be standard plates no 3d printed 3d 4d etc all them will not be allowed ! But i have also herd the numbers letters will be fine if right size right font and if black only. So if they just cut out the 4d coloured plates it should be fine. So no coloured acrylic its black acrylic n gel only !
Yes that’s right. So in the last few weeks or so they’ve allowed the normal 4d and 3D plates, but no carbon, coloured etc. Which is fair enough
The reason behind the crackdown in UK number plates is because we are moving further into a surveillance state, councils, police and other agencies are increasing the use of ANPR and they want to make sure they can read as many number plates as possible.
Metro plates are definitely something worth looking into producing , the Scottish car scene go mad for them , legal or not!
you need to be sure of your facts before you make vids. 4D are NOT going to be banned
We are in 2023 and they are still selling the plates
In September 2001 - yes 20 years ago - new number plate manufacturing laws and requirements came into place which people said would kill the number plate manufacturing... It didn't and this new 145e standard won't either.

that seems odd to me.. all number plates are government provided here and we have a few designs to choose from. and when we get a new vehicle, our old plate comes with us

Numberplates have dipped big time since the new ruling and yes they are banned!
