First clear. Also probably the first western clear I guess.
The game warns you on the mode select screen that Unlimited is for experts only, and for quite a good reason since CC WI Unlimited is probably one of the hardest shmup clears out there.
Type Z makes it a lot more manageable though.
A mechanic that is unique to Unlimited mode is the ability to cancel bullets with your lock-on lasers. The more lasers that are locked-on when you kill an enemy, the bigger the cancel. A full lock-on gives you a full screen-clear.
Cancelling bullets increases your break meter as well as your break rate multiplier, so using a lot of lock-on cancels is very good for both survival and score.
Besides that the mechanics are the same as in Original mode.
The Superplay DLC has guides that explain the game and scoring mechanics really well, as well as having guides for scoring high and showing the point values of all the enemies. I would really recommend getting the DLC for anyone who wants to get into Crimzon Clover. The guides and the actual superplay replays themselves are completely awesome.
But in a nutshell, get as many double breaks as possible, cancel as many bullets as possible for breakrate and kill everything with a high lock-on multiplier.
Pointblanking increases everything much faster as well as having an active high lock-on multiplier.
Killing bosses with a full lock-on makes them spew out a fountain of stars.
Stage 5 was kind of a trainwreck both survival and scoring-wise. I think if I milk the stage 4 boss and not mess up stage 5 completely I could probably beat the 6.8 trillion 3rd place on the leaderboard.

You could of play Touhou, it's farely easy, only on easy difficulty
I couldn’t get past setting up my controller to work on this game.
Dahni Lama I had the same problem, you have to go to steam big picture mode, go into the game settings/controller settings and turn off the global setting
Lawrence Insley was playing it tonight. Worked no problem with it my megadrive mini controller. Was using my PS4 pad when I first tried it. Such a good game would be ace if they ported it to consoles.

Two years after buying it, and I am still floored at how many bullets this thing can put out... and with zero slowdown, no less!

You say that like it’s a bad thing but a lot of arcade shooters used slow down intentionally and its part of the design. Doesn’t mean every game needs it but it’s part of it in a way

It doesn't matter if you suck at this game. It will provide you with a constant stream of endorphins regardless.
This is my very first Sh'mup I picked up around 2014-2015 and immediately fell in love! Throughout the years I have tried lots of Sh'mups, but none come even close to the quality and fairness of Crimzon Clover which really motivate me to keep playing. I just recently 1cc'd Novice Boost mode on World EXplosionand it was the exact difficulty I could handle. My final goal really is to beat Arcade Unlimited which will maybe take years or decades for me because I easily get overwhelmed mentally in Arcade Unlimited, but it's something to aspire to. I really feel inspired to keep on trying because of videos like this!
I genuinely had to check the video speed in the settings because I thought I'd accidentally set it to 1.5 or something. Bloody hell that is some superhuman level skill.

Incredible playthrough. I just got this one today and played it through for the first time. All I can say is I was NOT prepared for how insane this one was compared to what I'm used to. I play a lot of Cave games and those are tough, but CC is near impossible.

Ayy Jaimers! You should get Enter the Gungeon on Steam. It's a rogue-lite bullet hell dungeon crawler that's more skill reliant than item reliant. I'm sure it would be a breeze for you. Also this was a fantastic run! Learned a lot of nice tricks to get through this too.

im surprised it doesnt lag more from how many separate entities are on the screen at once. but on the topic of things on the screen, how does the game determine when to let you absorb stars and when it lets them fall to the bottom? i cant tell.
shmup devs are very resourceful when it comes to optimization
look at CAVE, their pcbs had the processing power of a stale potato, and yet, they managed to render so many bullets and effects in things like mushihimesama tlb
look at bullet textures, therrs a reason that cave likes those purple bullets, and 90% of the bullets on screen use the same sprite, thats bcuz this way, less memory is wasted cuz u load just 1 or 2 bullet sprites, just scaled and rotated
same goes.for most bullets in crimson clover, theres 2 majn boolet shapes, tiny purple pellets and red spheres, also, small stars have the same spin anination and they fall fast, so they despawn quickly, either by collecting them or by falling offscrean
textures are the main ram waster and performance hog
physics and projectile movement are very simple for the cpu to perform, even on large scales
the gpu (generallu integrated to the pcb in arcade) is under a ton of strain from rendering, so reusing textures is pretty big deal

+Helio Knight Not really, he'd need to put in an extreme amount of work on optimization. Seldia and ISO are demons.
1CCing games and playing for score are not necessarily synonymous.
That said, Jaimers is extremely, _extremely_ good all around. This very run seems to have given him the Western world record in CCWI on Unlimited, if Shmup Forums scoreboards are any indication, so he already sort of is number 1 on the leaderboards.
On the other hand, basically nobody in the West plays on Unlimited seriously.
I invite you to buy the game and try to change this, though. If you aren't very good at shmups and like hurting yourself, Unlimited is your best bet. Like, holy shit, it's tough.
I actually plan on getting this game at some point. I'm not that good a shmups but I do want to improve. I'll never be as good a Jaimers, but I don't have to tell you that.
I attempted Unlimited on this game with Type C. Couldn't get past stage 3 at all.

Why do most true final bosses have anti-bomb shields that block all damage instead of just damage from bombs only?
(sorry for necroposting) Because if the player were to run out of bombs, they would be dead and helpless not to mention it would turn it to a battle of attrition which is bad for shumps

shmups/bullet hells (and arcade/arcade based games in general) all have very evil auras to them. even cute em ups like fantasy zone and parodius feel deeply corrupt and malicious.

How do you get Type Z?
After 1CCing the game in any mode, Type-Z will show up, but you won't be able to use it until a bar fills up to 100%.
You can then increase the said bar by... just playing the game.

You don't need to play this mode. The game has original mode and novice difficulties that are MUCH more managable. It's a really fun game to play!

I never understood the necessity of new rendtions of games like these, once you pay Mushinimesama you played them all (the vertical bullet hell shooters).
There are a lot of first person shooter games, each one has a lot of offer, the same goes for vertical shmups at least in my experience

God, all that coin related rubbish on screen: just ruins this. Just bought Raiden V for $15, thank Christ I didn't pay anything more, it suffers from the other glaring problem of modern schmups: screen-clearing firepower. Just hold down the button, and everything explodes (yawn). Raiden 2 is miles better. I'm honestly having more fun with Gradius and Vulcan Venture (Gradius 2): even though they're next to impossible. I'm hoping that someday, someone will think to combine bullet hell, with waayyyy reduced player firepower, and make that survivable throughout the game (just). In other words, I think Gradius came closest to perfecting the formula: and it was the FIRST one, from 1985.
