Blaze Foley - If I Could Only Fly (Cover)

This week’s cover: ‘If I Could Only Fly’ by Blaze Foley. This slow, sleepy love song is most famously featured on his live album ‘Live at the Austin Outhouse’; recorded in 1989 and released ten years later. The songs were recorded by his friend John Casner and the demos were only known among his close personal friends before being released in 1999, after which time they became some of the most famous live recordings in folk music. I have covered Blaze a few times on this channel and even though he has released more fast-paced tracks, I am always attracted to his slower, love songs. He sadly only became well-known posthumously and was a friend of Townes Van Zandt who paid tribute to him in the 1990 song ‘Blaze’s Blues’. He was tragically murdered by his friend’s son over financial issues and much of his demo tapes have been lost since his death. Fortunately, the music we do have is incredible so I hope I have done this song some justice.

I've never heard a woman covered the song.. I think you did it a great Justice.. after Haggard does a song it's hard to follow.. but you had a certain sweetness about it , I actually think your version actually added more of feeling or quality of Hope in the words..
