  • In this video we travel from Brisbane, Australia to Manila International Airport, and then to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We take you with us on our first day back in Phnom Penh as we sort out a mobile phone, reactivate our bank accounts, and purchase a monitor. We will also talk about entering Cambodia in November 2022 including questions we were asked and what it’s like transiting through Manila International Airport in the Philippines. Thanks for watching!

Great to see you are back in the Kingdom. We must have passed each other as I have just returned after three weeks there.
I had a wonderful time ( my second visit ) and as a result of the knowledge I now have and the information and inspiration I get from you and your weekly videos I have decided to relocate to Cambodia.
I t will take a few months to declutter my life here in Australia but expect to be in Cambodia by March 2023.
So, very excited about the move and looking forward to more of your great videos.
Thank you and all the best.

That's so wonderful, Lynn. It makes you much more confident about moving here when you have had a chance to explore the place at leisure. We did that a few months before moving way back in 2019 as prior to that, we hadn't visited for many years. Hope you are well and the trip home was smooth. 🙏 🛵🙂🌴

Welcome back!!! Cambodia is not for everyone but obviously it’s right up your street. After 20 years of coming here I still get excited about arriving here( Cambodia)
Maybe it’s me but once people put on a uniform ( and airline staff do) they automatically go into a “make life difficult mode”.
The question about visas and return flights always drives me crazy not to mention the current inconsistencies with regard to wearing masks
    Take care and enjoy Cambodia

Thank you Barrie! Yeah, Cambodia just feels like a really good fit for us. Hard to explain, but when it gets you, it gets you. I wish they wouldn't ask those questions about visa and onward travel when it obviously makes no difference whether you answer yes or no. Just puts people on edge. The poor road dividers. I feel like they deserve some TLC.

Hi Claire and Jeremy. Happy you made it there safely. Cell Card is what I have used there as well. There are a couple other good ones. But I've been very happy with Cell Card. In Thailand I used True Move.
Hope to be back in Spring 2023. Been pretty depressed with having had quadruple bypass surgery mess up my returning in 2019, and then Covid shutdown. And now struggling to get the money saved to come back. Looks like I have to go through one more Canadian winter.
But I'll do it somehow. I'll get there,. I really miss Siem Reap, Cambodia, and also really miss Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Never been to Phnom Penh. Hope to visit on my return. My plan is to also stay and live my last years there permanently also.
I found in the past that when traveling and living in the tropics, if I avoid air-conditioning and use only fans and cross circulation and dress and eat and drink properly, I suffer in the heat for two or three weeks, and then I'm fine, and never suffer in the heat anymore. I acclimate to the climate. Acclimatization is key. I've never used my airconditioners in my apartments in the tropics. Fans and windows only. But everyone is different. That's just how I do it.
Manila ? I had a flight transfer layover there on my way back to Canada from Siem Reap and Bangkok. Nino Aquino International Airport is the worst airport I've ever been to. Didn't like that airport at all. I've heard they might be building a new airport. Let's hope it's a big improvement.
Take care.... Thank you for all your videos..... and best wishes to you both.

I've been in & out of every terminal in Manila two dozen times. At least the taxi drivers there aren't as scammy as they used to be, so there's that going for it lol. & yea in 2019 I flew from Manila to Phnom Penh (but back then there was a connecting flight in Hong Kong) and I was asked if I had a visa also, I said "no, it's visa on arrival" also, after 15 minutes of 5 of them talking to each other about it, they finally said "ok" and let me go.

If your layover in the airport was at night or before the sunset, you can expect many stalls (if not most) to be closed as is in many other countries. Thus, you won’t find it a pleasant experience being there at all.

I talked to one guy who hasn't left Thailand for 5 years and just uses his "Charles Schwab" debit card from the U.S.A. He says at the end of the month it refunds all his ATM fees. It's completely free to use!

Good to see u back in Phnom Penh, can’t wait for more video from you guys. If you don’t already know it, our president Joe Biden is demented and not well. We need a new president in the U.S.

Yeah, he seems a little unsteady. He's very old to be in that job. Thanks so much for watching! :)

Oh, dear, you fell into the trap of a rabid right-winger. Biden is fine and not unsteady. This is the line (demented etc) that extreme right-wingers and trump lovers are pushing. Please don't fall for it. I guess you don't follow US politics too closely.

Hi and thanks so much for this video, some questions 1. With cellcard what's the process and do they deduct $7 from you bank account every month ? 2. With the bank again what's the process of opening an account. I am on a pension and thinking of moving to Cambodia. I lived in Thailand for many years and considering Cambodia as an option... All help appreciated...

Hi, I just added a link to the ABA information in the description of this video. Sometimes UA-cam removes comments if they contain a link, so I didn't want to leave it here. With Cellcard, we deposit some money into the app, then it subtracts the weekly amount from that balance. Thanks for watching!

The worst bank to avoid is Canadia Bank! It will take at least 1 hr to witbdraw cash if you dont use the atm!

Hello Jeromy and Claire. What cell phone company did you go with? Or were they all the same. Also what ride hailing services are in Cambodia? Bolt? Grab? ABA Bank is a good bank? Are you saying "Pass Up" to pick us up? Is that your preferred ride hailing service? I agree, it is the small things that make me love SE Asia, like the peppers drying on the back of the motorbike, or geckos running along a wall or the crazy vehicles they have in Cambodia or............ I'm currently living in Chiang Mai and will be moving to Siem Reap this Friday in pursuit of English Teaching job. If I can't find in Siem Reap then off to Phnom Penh. Are you still in Cambodia? Cheers

Cellcard has rhe better coverage, but Smart has a slightly better deal at the moment. Both are pretty similar.
We love ABA, best app by far.
SR is slightly harder to get a teaching job as everyone wants to live here.
We are only a message away for any help.

Hi guys, just came back to Oz for Xmas via Singapore where I felt like I was being targeted with so many questions. I know the feeling when you feel it's your business and not theirs. Anyway it'll be Siem Reap for me early next year. Stay safe 🙏

Wonderful Henry! Did you get the same questions from Singapore Airlines about onward ticket and visa?

    • @henrylawson938
      @henrylawson938 Рік тому

@@ForRiel Yeah they asked me about my onward ticket which was Bali. Then at Changi I travelled by Scoot. They asked for my Bali ticket as well as my ticket back to Oz plus just before boarding the plane while I was in the gate queue a woman came specifically to me to check my vaccination status. 🙃 Maybe they think I'm working for the Russians 🤣🤣🤣

@@ForRiel Stayed in Cambodia from September 2011 until March 2014 (permanently, never left). Siem Reap and Kep. Got a business visa on arrival for a month. Then extended it several times for 6 months or a year. It was incredibly easy. Small tourist kiosks did it for me. Wonder if it is still possible 🤔🤔🤔 Please share with us how your long-term visas will be solved. Thanks!

Which outlet converter I should buy for Cambodia? Also, you know if Thailand uses the same type of electrical outlet.

Yes, maybe Google them as it's hard to describe.
