Shinee has been the masters of "weird ass songs that dont make sense" but making it a masterpiece. This really is right up their alley, they're just giving a mainstream 4th gen sound to it. I can't think of another group that could pull this off.

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like SM groups are usually one of the few groups that consistently utilize most/all members in harmonizing or full-group singing. Like most Kpop rarely ever has EVERY member singing at once, but the SM groups do it a lot.

In conclusion, SM, although bad at managing artist, they're not afraid of experimenting. It's not just SHINee who can pull off different genres, but all of their artist which is pretty amazing.

Through the years, shinee have gathered a lot of fans because they never go with the "safe choice". They often go 'against' the trends when it comes to concepts, they don't stick with a scheme and I love that they prefer experimenting with their style over sticking to a certain picture. You never know what to expect because they're over the part of "I have to promote this and it has to blow up" in their career; it's more of a "let's find out new facettes of ourselves in our work, we have fans who appreciate it." Being a shawol is always fun, even if you're not a shawol, you always enjoy shinee. They're like bertie botts beans yk? You never know what taste you get even if you pick a bean lol
as a casual listener i already enjoyed it but its amusing to see trained musicians get frozen and mind-fucked by the technical anomaly that is SHINee music
I find it really fascinating that this song was originally offered to Boa, a female soloist. Like I can't imagine it any other way then shinee now but man would be interested to hear the demo and what changes were made because shinee vs. boa way different vibes.

I'm still not a huge fan of the song, although I do love the chorus - I hate it a little less each time I hear it but it will never be a top song for me. (The same goes for Exo - Wolf - just not for me, although the live version is great because of the choreo)

The way everyone reacts to Onew's voice just really shows how unique his vocal timbre is. The other members all have "dry" timbres; even Jonghyun had a raspier tone, though he had the technical skill to make his voice sound warm. I can only think of a few other male K-pop idols who have that unique "wet", bell-like tone (e.g. Shownu of MX, Hyuk and Hakyeon of Vixx...).
This song grows on you! At first I thought I wouldn't be hooked as much because it feels so grandieuse (like musical theatre) but it gets stuck in your brain, so addictive. Next thing I knew I was doing that choreo main point with the little kicks unconsciously 😳

Although I really, really love classical music (and jazz), I'm not a musician. I knew there was something about the song, something hidden maybe, but I couldn't tell what it was. When I watched the MV at first, it was shocking how SHINee was different and I was conflicted. That's where my focus was on. After listening to it again (and again), I realized how I've (surprisingly) loved everything about it, especially the piano part. That was awesome. I wanna thank these musicians for all the musical info. Now I know what was so unique about it. And I'm more amazed now. Wow.
Oh, and I loved that guy with the perfect pitch. The one who played the keyboard. I think there are a couple more here who are part of the perfect pitch gang? Maaan I wish I learned more about music in school.

I’ve never seen you guys so flustered and speechless before! I loved hearing the music theory applied to this song, it’s very cool how K-pop is breaking through musical boundaries and going beyond typical 4-chord pop. It reminds me lot of jazz re-harmonizations of pop songs that are seen on UA-cam a lot lately. Thanks for breaking down this awesome new song!

The way everyone reacts to Onew's voice just really shows how unique his vocal timbre is. The other members all have "dry" timbres; even Jonghyun had a raspier tone, though he had the technical skill to make his voice sound warm. I can only think of a few other male K-pop idols who have that unique "wet", bell-like tone (e.g. Shownu of MX, Hyuk and Hakyeon of Vixx...).

i feel validated that they were as confused listening for the first time as i was lol but i didnt feel like this song wasnt visceral, i very much feel like im being bullied by this song. the intro especially physically feels like being tripped by someone. its unsettling, like when youre having a hard conversation and you know its not going well. Although I really, really love classical music (and jazz), I'm not a musician. I knew there was something about the song, something hidden maybe, but I couldn't tell what it was. When I watched the MV at first, it was shocking how SHINee was different and I was conflicted. That's where my focus was on. After listening to it again (and again), I realized how I've (surprisingly) loved everything about it, especially the piano part. That was awesome. I wanna thank these musicians for all the musical info. Now I know what was so unique about it. And I'm more amazed now. Wow.
Oh, and I loved that guy with the perfect pitch. The one who played the keyboard. I think there are a couple more here who are part of the perfect pitch gang? Maaan I wish I learned more about music in school.

What a misread. Jonghyun´s vocals, for one, always brought such depth and complexity that cute as an adjective does not match SHINee.
