One thing that amazes me about this album is how gracefully it aged - it's been almost 8 years, yet most of the songs sound no different to stuff being put out today.
begin again was a future nostalgia track when it came out, and it lived up to that. when i listen to it now i can instantly feel and remember where i was where i first heard it. one of the goated edm tracks
Generally agree with you here, though I would say it's not perfect, but rather the perfect album experience for a Knife Party fan. Oddly, the ones that hold up best for me today are Superstar, 404, Boss Mode and EDM Trend Machine
Knife Party is definitely one of the most 1000 IQ EDM groups ever. I honestly just see it as an excuse for Rob and Gaz to do whatever the hell they wanted, because the reason why Pendulum broke up initially is cos they were bored of drum & bass and they wanted to experiment more, which you could definitely hear in parts of Immersion. So KP essentially was them doing whatever they wanted, unbound by restrictions. And I think Abandon Ship is the perfect example of that. You can tell they had a blast making it, covering a whole plethora of genres. I think even though Pendulum may be their main focus now, if they feel like doing anything else, we'll still get Knife Party stuff in the future. Going to another point, I think it might've been considered at one point that Abandon Ship could've been the end of Knife Party, or at least the end of the Knife Party we knew up to that point. Rob had been talking about a Pendulum comeback and album pretty consistently around the time and after the release of Abandon Ship, seeing how we had the Pendulum reunions and a huge gap between releases after Trigger Warning, it could've been the end of the project altogether (Battle Sirens existed in 2015, they just didn't release it til later). And listening to the Knifecast episodes (god I hope we get more of those), Lost Souls seemed like it came together off a whim, and it took them about a year to write the whole thing, so they certainly weren't wholly dedicated to it. So yeah, in closing, while I don't think KP is their main focus anymore, and I highly doubt we'll get another album from them, it'll remain their other outlet for experimentation, with releases whenever they feel like making other stuff.
YOU MAD MAN! Saw your tweet about Knife Party so I went back and listened to Abandon Ship because it had been awhile, then BAM, you've got a 17 minute wonder-piece on the project! You clever bastard!
Funnily enough I found the album CD in 2018 from one the most unexpected places. It was a small countryside thrift shop mainly selling retro stuff and such, and in a CD rack alongside some finnish country classics lied this masterpiece. A lonely EDM gem in a (literal) haystack. For a whopping 50 cents. A good deal if you ask me :)
funny as well around 2022 i found it on CD i love edm and even back then and i was like oh yeah i love knife party and i brought it then it got me into CD Collecting. it's quite interesting I found it though because it's very rare to even find EDM at all sometimes even very mainstream pop is hard to find in my area. usually when i see EDM. it is Black Eyed Peas or Daft Punk.
I like to listen to albums from start to finish. Always save the whole album when I like a song so I dont miss out on hidden gems and I mist say Abandon ship feels like 1hour full out party with a lot of diversity and it is exactly which makes it so much fun. You dont know what to expect next track
Fucking love this! Definitely made me want to go back and listen to the album with my new respect to music and matured edm pallet. Also the fact that you went back and did a review on knife party created a sort of connection with you. Since the bass music has changed so much over the years I have a greater respect for the creativity that came from older music and it felt like I was alone on those ideals but you showed me that there are others with that same sentiment so keep it up man. Love your channel and I can’t wait to see what you do next. Hopefully one day you’ll review some of the music that I make in the future.Much love
Definity a great album, that album was the reason I got into dubstep! Also have you heard of Ghastly? My favourites from them are: Octopussy and Black Mamba
Awesome video! Abandon Ship is my favorite album of all time, with Begin Again specifically putting itself on top as my favorite song ever made. I loved this take on the album.
In my opinion, EDM Trend Machine is also a jab at the state of dance music/house music in general. Using a word like "trend" in the title and being a joyful, house music with smooth vocals and easygoing but somewhat hollow lyrics, it sounded to me like a parody, of sorts, of Pharell's Happy, which as popular at the time. They even have similar themes and elements. Considering KP's tendency to take a stab at the scene every now and then, this is not impossible. Great video, loved this whole analysis! Abandon Ship is indeed really good!
I’m glad this album was spoken about. I remember it received some backlash when Boss Mode was released. I didn’t understand why people were so upset at the time... it’s was and is an extraordinary track. I’m also glad Kaleidoscope got some recognition.
Knife Party in general sold me, after hearing Centipede I was blown away and started listening to EDM regularly. This album still fucks, I love the fact that the songs I disliked the most from this album are now my favs (EDM Trend Machine, Superstar, Kaleidoscope).
same, heard bonfire back in the day in a mlg meme video when that was happening, spent about a year finding the song, but after that i was so into edm. after battle sirens i was not as hopeful about knife party, but by that time i had already branched out enough to not have that be an issue.
oh yeah, everytime i get a song of this album on my Spotify I'm just BLOWN AWAY at how good it sounds. production , mixing, mastering... eh whatever,.... it just makes me smile and turn up the volume to the limit! I just can't understand how you can make edm songs sound soooooo good and pleasing to the ear and... juicy and satisfying and rewarding. total masterpiece hands down
I feel like the lyrics in EDM Trend Machine were a cheeky play on how a lot of mainstage house music has empty platitudes in their lyrics. No meaning intended.
Interesting, hadn’t thought of that! I was looking into the meaning of the words when really, the fact there isn’t meaning is perhaps the important thing to note 😄
this is still one of my favorite records ever, but i still have a soft spot for everything they dropped after this - i used to use parliament funk as an intro to my sets i was always a huge fan of Maor Levi's Lazer Lazer Lazer project, too, i think it kinda picked up the KP torch in a few ways when they went a little less aggro with their house
The lyrics of edm trend machine talks about how the industry/''Artists'' of EDM Change his style to what is trending on the moment, something that happened to EDM all the time, and what makes EDM such a decadent style.
When i have to drive for a long time i always listen to Abandon Ship start to finish. Best EDM album ever. And i love Superstar. It might not be Knife Party as we know it but its so catchy and good vibes.
believe it or not, if my friend asks me, whats ur favorite gift you got for your birthday? i always say this album! its such a gem and was released on my birthday
For me abandon ship is his second best album because it has a great variety of edm songs and practically all of the songs like me. My top 5 is resistance,404, D.I.M.H, superstar and begin again
Can i suggest using a "Desser" on your vocal audio... that S's and T's hit the ear canal something sharp. Great videos non the less, but after a day of producing trying to relax my ears those sharp S noises aren't helping lol.
yeah its perfect because of how the stars aligned. knife party had many songs by 2014 and creating an album during this part of their careers was perfect. any more back in time like 2012 or 2011 then the production wouldnt stand up as well as we know it now, any later and the whole edm scene changes (2016 and newer, songs usually now use more innovative sounds and less flat sharp synths) and therefore would have less of an impact on release
Outer Edges is great but I think reviewing a more "dance focused" EP would be better. Purpose EP is my absolute favorite and are focused on being bangers. The albums usually have parts that can get very "experimental"
I’m actually curious if Knife Party is ever going to make another album, or if Abandon Ship is just a one and done sort of thing. Honestly Micropenis is my least favorite song in the entire thing. It just sounds incredibly childish and I normally skip right over it.
@@Nawtystep A very late response. To put it simply, I just found most of these songs to be too boring. Resistance is repetitive filler, Boss Mode is a generic mainstream trap attempt, Give It Up is a diet remake of Bonfire, Micropenis and Superstar are ruined by childish jokes thrown in, and the other songs are just forgettable. The only stand out song on this album for me is EDM Trend Machine, since it reaches the quality of their earlier songs. Internet Friends, Destroy Them With Lazers, Tourniquet, Fire Hive, Rage Valley, Centipede, Bonfire, Sleaze, Power Glove, LRAD and EDM Death Machine set the bar so high for this album. Each song is incredible, offering amazing production and unique ideas, while keeping a cohesion of quality and style, no matter the genre. This album just left me disappointed. Not much variation in breakdowns or anything truly memorable. Silly jokes that try to excuse the lack of care and creativity, but only enforce a tone of unconfidence, which isn't something I'd expect from such talent. I wish I liked this album, but it's just so bland. Their older songs and remixes blow this album out of the water.
So i've watched your reactions to music for a while now, Nawty. I've always enjoyed hearing your views and insights, whether I agreed with them or not. I have to say that I don't enjoy these types of video at all. There is no such thing as 'perfect' music. Stop looking for it. Stop breaking music down to judge whether it is what you think to be perfect. Music is perceivable. Everyone experiences it in his or her own way. Everyone has their own preferences. As I said before, I loved 'joining' your experience. Always interested to hear your opinion. Not so interested in these videos that explore whether or not music is perfect based on some random facts. I won't be watching them again, sorry.

hello
Oh for sure, this is easily one of my top 10 lps
One thing that amazes me about this album is how gracefully it aged - it's been almost 8 years, yet most of the songs sound no different to stuff being put out today.
begin again was a future nostalgia track when it came out, and it lived up to that. when i listen to it now i can instantly feel and remember where i was where i first heard it. one of the goated edm tracks
It was also nostalgia for Pendulum fans at the time. Amazing track with the perfect sound for the purpose
Generally agree with you here, though I would say it's not perfect, but rather the perfect album experience for a Knife Party fan. Oddly, the ones that hold up best for me today are Superstar, 404, Boss Mode and EDM Trend Machine
Superstar is a absolute bop with the switch up at the end. Love that track.
Nah don't underrate it. It is perfect.

This is one of the best edm albums ever. Period.
YOU MAD MAN!

Knife Party needs to see this video! I hope they do. You've done well.
100% WORTH THE WAIT, these videos are incredible man god i cant wait for more
Superstar is soooo underrated. Great vid, hope to see more like this in the future
Love this album so much want a new album from them
Mate! this kind of new video style is amazing... big thanks to Nawtystep! love this channel
Mans started with a fucking thesis statement. Bravo!!
This is how I do 😎
9:25 the lyrics could mean that they can turn around the mainstream as long as they keep going with their music and the fans are by their side. 😉

Definity a great album, that album was the reason I got into dubstep!
Also have you heard of Ghastly? My favourites from them are: Octopussy and Black Mamba
Yeah, Ghastly’s pretty dope!
Octopussy is a generic briddim song, Nawtystep's favourite is Get On This
Awesome video! Abandon Ship is my favorite album of all time, with Begin Again specifically putting itself on top as my favorite song ever made. I loved this take on the album.
YES, THESE GUYS WERE MY FIRST OBSESSION WITH HIGH INTENSITY BASS MUSIC AND BROSTEP. THANK YOU NAWTYSTEP ❤

Finally, an Abandon Ship video
I’m glad this album was spoken about. I remember it received some backlash when Boss Mode was released. I didn’t understand why people were so upset at the time... it’s was and is an extraordinary track. I’m also glad Kaleidoscope got some recognition.
It was actually this album thay really got me hooked on EDM
Knife Party in general sold me, after hearing Centipede I was blown away and started listening to EDM regularly. This album still fucks, I love the fact that the songs I disliked the most from this album are now my favs (EDM Trend Machine, Superstar, Kaleidoscope).

Absolutely one of the greatest EDM albums of all time. There isn’t a single bad song in there.
oh yeah, everytime i get a song of this album on my Spotify I'm just BLOWN AWAY at how good it sounds. production , mixing, mastering... eh whatever,.... it just makes me smile and turn up the volume to the limit! I just can't understand how you can make edm songs sound soooooo good and pleasing to the ear and... juicy and satisfying and rewarding. total masterpiece hands down
The lyrics to "EDM Trend Machine" play off the truism, feel-good, "Ultra Miami" blurbs that big room/main stage songs use
15:14 Pegboard Nerds. Fantastic duo
Begin Again and Give it Up have gotta be some of my favourite KP tracks, it’s a shame this album got all the hate it did
Man I've been saying that this was a perfect album. I listen to It weekly
i love this album so much
love this break down , since 2015 listing to this album go and come back again feel strange energy in
I have always loved Give it Up and Boss Mode , some of the first edm tracks i've heard
You've improved so much since the last video. Keep at it 🔥🔥
I feel like the lyrics in EDM Trend Machine were a cheeky play on how a lot of mainstage house music has empty platitudes in their lyrics. No meaning intended.

Begin Again is my favorite Knife Party song!
Always blow away by this album
love vid essays like this, KP got me through my college years. begin again in particular! great vid :)
Begin Again is my personal favorite song within the album!!! Was released on my birthday (thr music video that is)
404 and begin again are definitely the highlights of the album
my favourite album ever
The lyrics of edm trend machine talks about how the industry/''Artists'' of EDM Change his style to what is trending on the moment, something that happened to EDM all the time, and what makes EDM such a decadent style.
When i have to drive for a long time i always listen to Abandon Ship start to finish. Best EDM album ever. And i love Superstar. It might not be Knife Party as we know it but its so catchy and good vibes.
I'm not into listening the full album, but Begin Again and Give It Up are my top favorites.
Amazing video bro, always looking forward to the video essays!
believe it or not, if my friend asks me, whats ur favorite gift you got for your birthday? i always say this album! its such a gem and was released on my birthday
For me abandon ship is his second best album because it has a great variety of edm songs and practically all of the songs like me. My top 5 is resistance,404, D.I.M.H, superstar and begin again
Do one on Hold Your Colour or Immersion they're absolutely perfect themselves.
Can i suggest using a "Desser" on your vocal audio... that S's and T's hit the ear canal something sharp. Great videos non the less, but after a day of producing trying to relax my ears those sharp S noises aren't helping lol.
Love your new style!!! You should do a video about svdden death and his new lp Voyd Vol. 2 🤘
Its a perfect album as KP in a transitioning era similar to Skrillex's recess. KP was and always be the fun weird progressive electronic music.
Ace stuff man! Well made! Would you consider doing one of these on any of Pendulum's work? Immersion or HYC would be interesting!
Give it Up will forever be one of my top 5s
Finally new nawty video
best electro album of all time !!!!!!!!!!
I loved boss mode
Legends made a legendary album
yeah its perfect because of how the stars aligned. knife party had many songs by 2014 and creating an album during this part of their careers was perfect. any more back in time like 2012 or 2011 then the production wouldnt stand up as well as we know it now, any later and the whole edm scene changes (2016 and newer, songs usually now use more innovative sounds and less flat sharp synths) and therefore would have less of an impact on release
i haven't even started the video but i completely agree. Knife Party ❤
I wonder if Rob and Gazza will see this?
I hope so, one day :)
“What is this disco shit? Where’s the dubstep?”
Do a first reaction or album review to voyd 2 pls
This is the one
Good video
Next video you should talk about Noisia - Outer Edges LP or deadmau5 4x4=12 great LPs
These artists are in the pipeline!
Outer Edges is great but I think reviewing a more "dance focused" EP would be better. Purpose EP is my absolute favorite and are focused on being bangers. The albums usually have parts that can get very "experimental"
Any other duo one could rank amongst KP in 2014?
BARELY ALIVE
Pegboard Nerds?
Nah, neither of these. Don’t come close
Voyd 2 review when?
YOOO DO A VOYD II video
WHERES THE VOYD II REACTION BRUH
I’m actually curious if Knife Party is ever going to make another album, or if Abandon Ship is just a one and done sort of thing.
Honestly Micropenis is my least favorite song in the entire thing. It just sounds incredibly childish and I normally skip right over it.
Nawty pls react to Azel again 🙏
He released Demuth VIP and Angra on Beatbox International channel🙏🙏
I second this
🥀🥀🥀🥀
hy
I thought this album was a let down. Their first three EPs were excellent.
how was it a let down?
Based take
That’s fair! Any reason why in particular?
