Every character in this game looks like they came out of an early 2000s dating sim
oh damn I love hinokakera. it was one of the first fighting games I ever played back when my girlfriend was trying to got me into fighting games and the game is sick. especially considering it was made by one person like, 2 decades ago

Hard to believe 1 person made it. Crazy good for what it is.
Same with this one game Spacebourne 2. It was made by a lone Turkish dude (though I think as of the last few months he has had help;) there's a lot of jank, but it is fucking impressive for what it is.
One recent one man wonder project is Withering Rooms. I talk about everywhere I go because it needs exposure too.
There are actually at least 3 Hinokakera games that I know of, Fragment Eclipse, Chaotic Eclipse and Fragments of Innocent Sinner.
Nightmare is Hard Mode AI but the CPU deal 1.5x more damage. Not recommended for new player. Also, Light beats Medium, Medium beat Heavy, Heavy ARMORS THROUGH LIGHT!!!!
Kakeru is a high level character but the easiest character to deal with the CPU except for Cletis.
Arcade mode: Cletis will always be the final boss with meter-regen. If you beat Normal difficulty without continues, you will face your rival character after beating Cletis but they are in permanent Overdrive mode AND meter-regen. Beating Hard or Nightmare Mode including the Rival Fight without continue will grant you a fight vs. Aya Immortal in permanent Overdrive and Meter-regen.
You doing big justice to this type of retro games, also respect to the Dev: Akaishi Ryuuka "Reddish Region".

I just found out, not only about this game, but about this whole movement of fan made games traded at conventions. I didn't even realize that is where Type-Moon and French Bread came from. This looks so much fun, but I am unsure if it is available on Mac.

FINALLY!!!! Dan, I love this game for like forever…. Not a hard game, but have a lot of mechanics , it’s so cool.
Btw: there is a secret boss… u need to win all without using continue, and after credits the real boss appears.
Btw2: overdrive for almost all chars is qcf qcf + 4

Anyway, you should try Daemon Bride if you haven't. Cool-ass game it's like a mix between Soku and Arcana Heart.
Y'all notice after depleting the opponents health bar, as he continued the special move or combo it started filling back up red? Might just be a coding thing, but it would be cool if there was some kind of special finish or like fatality move if you filled the bar completely. Would be a really cool idea and way to show off other than just press this sequence and it happens like every other game like MK etc.

Wow I used to play this back in college. I guess I played an early version because I do not recognize a lot of the characters
seems really awesome, i imagine at scale if more people played they would find the balancing and/or bug issues but either way, its crazy given the game programming tools at the time and he was able to make this alone. It means they probably worked on it starting possibly in the late 90s
I was SO huge into rival schools on PlayStation. This game here would have turned me devil.

Btw, Celes for some strange reason has high juggle damage because of the fire property... weirdly enough Malakh does not have that benefit.

Was this game using SF moves or Tekken-style, or Virtual Fighter tapping directions?
SF moves. There is also standart KOF input for supers, but you also have EX moves that inputed like in Melty Blood(input + C button, or hard version of move)

Try Super clash of ninja 4. Naruto clash of ninja series are the best 3D anime fighter. The jumps in this game remind me of clash of ninja since u can jump over ur opponents or jump back n throw a projectile.
This is like dissidia but fighter style. Why haven't they made a final fantasy fighting game yet? Or a smite fighting game? League of legends is doing it, we need some popular franchises to follow this trend, it would be really fresh. This would be great on fightcade.
