100% spot on. The lack of permanent flat rides is really starting to hurt the park. Management seriously need to address this. There are plenty of off the self solutions available and more retro squad in 2024 isn't acceptable.
I have a feeling the situation will improve with Altons new management - It just sucks we have the Retro Squad at the moment
The Retrosquad rides are great (especially if ran on their full potential). The problem is the park needs to theme them into their respective areas. Roller Disco was a real atmosphere killer in Dark Forest and it’s the same with Spinjam. I can see a new permanent themed flat ride replacing Ripsaw next season but I really hope the park have other plans in X Sector and Dark Forest too.
They got rid of enterprise because it reached the end of its service life
I agree to an extent - The rides themselves wouldn't be as out of place if they were themed in to the areas they are in. The issue comes though when you have them rotating year on year like they are at the moment. Makes it so you can't install then into an area like Blade for instance (Blade is actually a traveling ride)
In the advert, one of Twistatron's objectives after being reprogrammed is "crush the Retrosquad". I'm wondering if the baddie will destroy them all somehow at the end of the season, paving the way for permanent replacements. Very clever of Towers if so actually.
I saw this! Whilst I don't think this means the end of the Retro Squad, I think its the beginning of the end
I have a felling that the retro squad is not leaving soon ( next 3 years) because they are developing a complete story for it!.
I wouldn't be to sure - New ownership at the park means a new change of direction. I think the Retro Squad don't have long left
Hello There, a great Video and it's good to hear your thoughts on this, fortunately Alton Towers does have some new management on board so hopefully they'll be able to dress this but I do agree they seriously need to invest n some new flat rides now. Cheers Peter :)

Its been on my mind for ages - The new ride in X-Sector pushed me over the edge
I am not a fan of the retro squad but I would rather have them there than no flat rides at all plus means queues will be shorter on the larger coaster but Alton truly do have a flat rides crisis and its not just their are several parks that only have one or no thrilling flat ride Busch Gardens Tampa, SeaWorld and Toverland to name a few. But Alton should get some new flats
I'd rather the park replace each Retro Squad ride year on year with a new flat then have the whole Retro Squad come back. That way they can be slowly phased out
Whist I concur that hearing 80s music when existing a truly remarkable ride would be .. something and that Alton Towers should not have two retrosquaid rides in the same area, I rather enjoy them (especially spinjam)

I thought they were added as a way to try and keep the park interested while they save money for next season secret weapons and the nemmy retrack, but yeah... they don't sit well, or even look right in the park at all.
The Retro Squad rides are just ruining the Alton Towers experience - Even some known enthusiast friends are saying that now

It's cheap and nasty whilst Merlin charge top whack for everything whilst doing the bare minimum
With them installing things like Alton Manor and Project Horizon they need to install something to support those attractions
Surely its gotta be cheaper to buy a ride then rent one for a year?
Need 4-5 new permanent flats.
2 intense, twisted rides in X-Sector to match the theme
1 in Dark Forest as its the only area without a flat
1 in Forbidden valley as Blade and Sub-terra are both upper end of the area.
Possibly something more thrilling in Mutiny bay.
I'll be there next Tuesday so i'll have a good idea on the new ride then but it looks rather tame from images. (Idk what model it is)
This is what I was saying - Surly they have paid the equivalent of a new flat ride in rental fees

hi Eye Coaster cool video i love the Retro Squad thay are awsome rides i agree with you thay sould get some flat rides put that projet amazon on hold and bring in some great flat rides thay just cannot keep on hiring funfair rides thay can upgrade a awsome dark ride but thay wont invest in a couple of flat rides i just dont get it and i think it is a bit odd having two Retro squad rides in the same area thay could of put the new ride where RollerDisco was

The capacity on the Star Fighter is pretty low - they should’ve just got a standard Trabant, with the same ride motion with side-by-side seating.

The super trooper can stay as long as they theme it in and turn off the 80s tunes. The other two can bugger off though,.
With X-Sector being a fair ground now - Both rides can bugger off
I liked the idea as first for what they were brought in for in 2021. However now it is starting to annoying me a little. Alton Towers is the UKs premium theme park and I don't drive 2 hours and pay the prices you do for Alton Towers to go on fun fare rides.
I love the investment Towers are spending. However like you have said with the prices they are paying to rent these rides. I'm quire sure they could've installed some flat rides worthy of being alongside The Smiler etc
I can't help but feel Alton Towers are jumping the gun with things like Alton Manor - The Flat situation needs sorting first.
I was the same as you - I liked them at first, but things need to change now.
It is strange how they’ve stuck with them, I get that they were put in for covid but we’ve been saying they need more flat rides years before the pandemic, and considering Thorpe parks great selection of flats make the towers lineup feel a lot less complete

Absolutely agree, Alton desperately needs flats. If it were my vote, I'd whack at least one in each area (provided there was the room for it)

I dont think it’s that big of a deal, people can’t expect them to be adding flat rides when they have plans for large investments in the coming years. Like I’d rather the extra capacity be there than not at all, and I don’t think it’s such a terrible situation as people are making it out. Like there’s so many coasters to enjoy, and dark rides and water rides, just be patient and I’m sure they will introduce permanent flat rides in the future once project horizon is finished
Alton Towers have issues with capacity - And in my opinion this needs to be sorted sooner then installing Project Horizon or Alton Manor
The retro squad add capacity, and project horizon will most likely add more capacity than any flat ride could do

I think they should get rid of the flat rides and just keep the same rides like they did back in 2020 the retro rides are becoming ridiculous they need to go

Couldn’t agree more, it really devalues their overall offering, if I wanted a s**t travelling ride, I’d go to a tacky carnival 🤦♂️

Enterprise was a travelling model… nothing wrong with travelling rides. In fact they’re usually ran better than theme park flats. The only real issue here is how Towers have made no effort in theming them to their respective areas.
